Welcome to Casa Cucina or the River House, a whimsical, quiet space to chill and enjoy the unique environment, calm and beauty. PLEASE NOTE UP FRONT, Our page says 1 site, this site can hold 4 caravans, tents or trailers at any one time, in one group. Each Van/ tent allows for 2 adults and 2 children under 16. Extra adults (16 and over) are charged at $20 per night per site. We are 1 hour East of Melbourne along the M1, (and a couple of kms off the M1). Situated in West Gippsland. Casa Cucina is a feast for the senses and very close by you can enjoy the alpine majesty of the Baw Baw Plateau, the Bunyip State Forest, the (mostly) lush green valleys, to the rivers and streams… there is always something to do in West Gippsland for the curious. Other attractions in the area are Gumbuya World, Nangara Reserve, Noojee and Neerim South, PLUS of course the wineries. The Tarago River backs onto our small yet spacious, open yet shaded space. The river is shallow for paddling, not really ‘swimmable’, a lovely spot to cool off on our warm summer days, or a mesmerising place to sit, watch, read, contemplate, draw or write. Some large old Mountain Ash remain along the river bank, with lots of new plantings. It is not uncommon to see an echidna, a variety of stunning birdlife, and on dusk, maybe a wombat family and folks, we also host a family of platypus if you are very quiet - mainly seen at dawn or dusk. Our space can accommodate up to 4 caravans, tents or trailers (under 10 metres) in one group (one booking). In addition, the upper adjoining block can accommodate 2 caravans (enquire for this option). This is a single group occupancy site so you can enjoy the privacy of your own group. If you wish to hook into our powered site, please add $10 per night, per van. All campers will also have access to our Casa Cucina gorgeous eclectic, quirky community space to sit in out of the weather. Please note: This is not an accommodation space. As a reminder, all campers will need to be Self Contained as we have no toilet facilities, no access to fresh water, cold showers only and no cooking facilities. Also remember if you wish to have a fire (not during fire season however) in our fire pit, you MUST bring your own wood.A peaceful place on the Tarago River. Quiet, beautiful and secluded. 2nd Time visitors to this awesome property. Beautiful spot, just off the M1 so easy to get to. Yes there is some road noise but you tend to block it out, chatting listening to some tunes around the fire pit. Chris is a fantastic host. Highly recommend staying here.

What an absolutely beautiful spot! My husband & I walked around for a good 5 minutes not believing our eyes. The sound of the river running, and the little house that lives up to its name ‘Quirky’ was amazing. We saw eels, possums, a wombat, cows & alpacas. We enjoyed the cold river water shower, and the fire place that had plenty of room for the dutch oven. Things to note, there was abit of traffic noise & lots of wasps, didnt bother us but good to know. Also beware of the friendly possum in the house that comes out to say hello at night time!

We had such a beautiful stay at River Block / Casa Cucina — it honestly exceeded our expectations. The setting is peaceful and private, with the river adding such a calming backdrop to the whole experience. It felt like the perfect balance between being immersed in nature and still having thoughtful comforts. Casa Cucina is a real highlight — such a charming and well-equipped space. You can tell a lot of care has gone into creating a welcoming, functional setup. The site itself is spacious and well-maintained, with plenty of room to relax and unwind. Whether it was sitting by the river, enjoying the quiet, or just taking in the surroundings, it was incredibly easy to switch off and recharge. Our host, Chris was fantastic — friendly, responsive, and clearly passionate about the space they’ve created. Everything felt easy and well-organised from start to finish. We’d absolutely come back again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway with a bit of charm and character. 🌿✨

Beautiful area, very private and peaceful with an awesome fire pit and even an artistic shed that you can sit in and enjoy a dinner! Would highly recommend…perfect stopover and would definitely come back!

This is a gorgeous place, it’s quiet and secluded. There is a fence around the site which is great to have your dog off leash. The river is a lovely place to cool down and the little cottage is so cute. We enjoyed reading a few books and guides that gave us ideas of what to explore around the area. The site was clean and well Maintained. Directions easy to find. Thanks so much Chris, we would love to come back.

We had a beautiful, quiet stay at this riverside Hipcamp with our caravan. The site was peaceful and perfectly positioned beside the river, with the gentle sound of flowing water making it incredibly relaxing. It was easy to access, spacious and private, giving us plenty of room to set up and unwind. If you’re chasing a simple, serene escape, this spot is a gem.

It’s a privilege to stay at Casa Cucina! A beautiful space, which is easily accessible and flat to suit all types of camping. Chris is the perfect host, getting in touch ahead of check-in and giving us a warm welcome. Super easy to find and access. The nearby Robin Hood Inn has a courtesy bus, which can come pick you up and drop you back again. Highly recommend a stay here.

Lovely Riverside Stay with Alpacas

We had a really lovely and relaxing stay on Chris’s beautiful block. Arrival instructions were excellent and very easy to follow. The first thing we noticed was the freshly cut grass… it was lovely and short and made setting up camp really easy and comfortable. The river hut was quirky and cute, with lots of charming little knickknacks inside. The alpacas and surrounding nature were a real highlight. We were lucky enough to spot a wombat, lots of birds, and even eels in the river during our stay. At night you can hear some cars and horns from the freeway, so just something for future visitors to be aware of. The block also has large gum trees and a branch did come down during our stay on the last windy night (luckily causing no damage or injury to us). That’s just part of being out in nature and didn’t take away from our experience! The block was immaculate, the only piece of rubbish was a HJ’s bag in the fire pit (which we assumed might have been for kindling) and wasn’t used during our total fire ban stay - but the fire pit would be a lovely addition if we could have used it! Overall, we all had a wonderful stay. It was peaceful, relaxing and a great way to unwind in nature on Chris’s beautiful property. The kids had an absolute ball! Thank you for having us!

Chris's place by the river is beautiful. The sound of the river and the birds was breathtaking. The grounds were extremely neat and tidy and the little hut was very quirky and interesting. We sat in there one afternoon when it got quite windy so it was very handy. Chris was very quick responding to any communication and very friendly.

The fenced off area is well maintained and can comfortably fit 3 vans. It is also pet friendly, so dogs have plenty of space to roam off lead. There is also a cute little room where you can hang out if the weather is not being nice.

Pretty, serene and relaxing

Such a beautiful serene setting, with lots of grass to relax on, tables to sit under trees and a lovely river flowing past. Chris made us feel so welcome, and we loved the addition of the pretty river house, which we sat in when the weather was a bit too windy. Everything about this place was just lovely and we highly recommend it.

A Perfect Weekend Getaway

Chris has created a little bit of paradise at her beautiful camping site Casa Cucuni. It was easy to set up camp on flat ground by the river. The moment you arrive you can feel the worries of the world disappear. The delightful "Casa" perched on the rise behind the campsite was a perfect place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and a good book and take in the scenery. The campsite was well equiped with tables and benches and a fire pit. The directions to the campsite were easy to follow as was entering the property. Chris is a wonderful host. Always prompt to reply and so friendly and helpful when we arrived.Im already looking forward to my next stay at Casa Cucina.

Casa Cucina what an amazing place. Chris was so friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed tent and RV camping. The kids loved seeing all the different animals (wombat, possums and owl). We'll set up and instructions were very clear.

This spot was a fantastic retreat. Hidden away on a tranquil section of Chris’s property, it felt like my own peaceful haven. Having a tiny house next to me made it very convenient to lounge around during the time of rain. If you’re after a quiet, nature-filled escape, this place is a must-visit.

This place was such a nice escape. Tucked away on a quiet, private part of Chris’s farm, it felt like our own little slice of nature. You can really tell Chris cares about the space. There’s even a little shelter built to keep out of the weather, which came in handy. My son and I camped right by the river, which was beautiful. We didn’t even have to worry about firewood, Chris had a big pile ready for just $10, which made things super easy. We actually ended up staying an extra night because we were enjoying it so much. If you're looking for somewhere quiet, relaxing, and a bit off the beaten path, this spot is a gem.

Idyllic spot. Super private. Never saw another person in the 4 days we were there, so that felt nice. Relaxing listening to the bellbirds and kookaburras and to hear the alpacas having a chat was quite funny. You get a bit of traffic noise, but the quiet, relaxing spot overrides that

Chris is a lovely host, who has put together an amazing camp site by the river, together with the quirky studio. The studio was the icing on the cake, especially this time of year when the weather can be unpredictable. The view of the camp site upon arrival, exceeded all expectations. Highly recommended, and definately should be at the top of everbodies list. Our number one choice for camping. Thank you again Chris.
