The Cooke Family welcomes you to “Hopevale”. A beautiful 113 acre property bordered by Wrattens National Park at the edge of the world in the peaceful Widgee district of greater Gympie. Jason, a landscaper by trade, and Jacinta a teacher by profession, met many years ago at a national Christian youth conference. Four beautiful children later and many years down the track, they bought Hopevale as a blank cattle fattening property in 2018. After much hard work, they have made it what it is today, with plans to continually improve. The property has only had 4 farming owners in its 110 odd years since it was first surveyed and selected in 1915. The Hillcoats, Bishops, Cotters, and now the Cooke’s. The families over the years have used the property for timber getting, dairy, beef and small cropping. The property is geologically rich with volcanic soils, sandstone escarpments full of caves and overhangs. The mighty Wrattens Falls sits to the back of the property in the National Park and is a sight to behold in full flow. It feeds the head waters of the western branch of Widgee Creek which meanders through the property. The subtropical dry rainforest clad mountains are dominated by the majestic Bunya and Hoop pines and are a testament to what once was covering the entire property before being cleared for farming. Remnant riparian creek lines are botanically rich and diverse holding Red and White Cedar, Teak, Silky oak and many other coveted timber trees harvested back in the day. There are many species of animals and birds that call Hopevale home. From water dragons, frogs and fish in the creeks, monitors, wallabies, deer, koalas, possums and phascogales in the eucalypts. Red-back wrens, pardalotes, rainbow bee-eaters, finches and quail call the open grasses home while whip birds give their iconic call in the forest. The Tewantin ferry is only about 15/20mins for access to Noosa North Shore and Rainbow Beach (4WD for beach driving). The Eumundi Markets 10 mins drive. We have tried to preserve the natural ecosystem on the river bank so it is heavily wooded and largely untouched. The total area for camping is approximately 500 metres with only four sites spaced far apart to ensure plenty of space and privacy. Each site has very easy access to the river, via a couple of tracks. You can enjoy swimming and kayaking in the river. Fishing is welcome when permitted but must be catch and release only. About our property. *** Our farm is a quite zone, but great for children to enjoy themselves *** *** We allow dogs, but they must restrain from barking and kept on leads *** 167 pristine acres of ex dairy farm, with flat paddocks running along side 1 km of kbeautiful creek frontage and manicured rolling hills in the back ground that back onto Gympie National park. It is a very quiet location with 5 dams and 2 that you can swim and Kayak in, the creek is also great to swim and kayak in , free roaming cattle to camp along side with lots of bird life to enjoy . We are only 15min North East of Gympie, 17min to Mary Valley Rattler train station, 32min to Mothar Mountain Rock Pools, 35min to Tin Can Bay, 50min to Rainbow Beach, 60min to the Sunshine Coast, Noosa. We have 7 different locations. ***Powered *** and non powered. 1 hill top location with 4 powered and 5 non powered sites. 4 non powered locations beside the creek with many camp sites to choose from. 2 non powered off road private locations, 4WD access only. ** No toilets or showers and can only be accessed in dry conditions, please contact us before booking these sites. Facilities. We have 3 toilets and a shower with warm water , our water is filtered, but not suitable for drinking, we advise you bring your own drinking water. Camp fires. **Weather permitting** NO BYO, But we do supply. $25 1st day (includes: fire pit, fire wood, fire starter and matches) $20 each day after everything included, All guests must take their waste with them on departure. Things to do nearby. There are many places that you can visit if you feel like a short drive within 15- 60min such as Breweries, Wineries, Beaches, Markets, Rock pools and the old famous Mary Rattler Steam Train. There is also many quite and beautiful small towns to visit, to just sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or have a glass of wine or beer or two. Pop in for a break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and have your own spot along the beautiful running creek and enjoy the peaceful surrounds of nature. Pets. Non barking dog are allowed, BUT must be kept on leash at all times and kept by your side when strolling around, pet waste must be picked up and taken off site when vacating.

This a great spot to KAYAK and wet your line with bass, saratoga, sooty grunter and lots of catfish! Platypus inhabit the river too, so bring your camera. Biking and bush walking are popular with guests. Please note that the river bank is quite steep. We recently had 2 access tracks constructed to the river for easier KAYAK launching. Wake up to the sound of birds and enjoy a relaxing base to discover what Hervey Bay has to offer. We are on 19 acres with goats, chickens, a rooster and cows. Only 10 mins away from K’gari(Fraser Island) barge that leaves from River Heads, and you can leave your van here for a small fee. It is an 8 min drive to the local food works, BP servo, chemist and a 12 min drive for takeaway options. Campfires are allowed in the fire pit provided. Families are welcome although children must be fully supervised at all times as we do have a very large dam on the property with ducks and turtles. We do not provide water so please make sure you have some before arrival.

The sites are level pastured camping areas with lovely trees providing good shade alongside the river. We have tried to preserve the natural ecosystem on the river bank so it is heavily wooded and largely untouched. The total area for camping is approximately 500 metres with only four sites spaced far apart to ensure plenty of space and privacy. Each site has very easy access to the river, via a couple of tracks. You can enjoy swimming and kayaking in the river. Fishing is welcome when permitted but must be catch and release only. There is plenty of wildlife to see, especially for bird watchers: kingfishers, parrots and birds of prey as well as platypus, air breathing lungfish and Mary River turtles. Access is 4WD or AWD only. In severe weather the Mary River can flood. Be prepared to leave in extreme weather. Campers must be self sufficient with their own camping toilet and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. Pets are welcome.

We loved our camp at sandy creek! Warren met us upon arrival and gave us a tour of the camp grounds and advised the best place to set up, due to being very hot. We had the whole place to ourselves and the lake for a dip was incredible. Beautiful scenery and very peaceful, would definitely like to return.

Great spot at Site 2 a stones throw from Kennilworh but far enough away to be quiet and relaxing. If is hot, a five minute walk down to the Mary river for a dip. Shane was welcoming and helpful. Plenty to do in and around Kenilworth, hiking 4WDing, swimming holes and don't forget 2 try the "coffee donut" in town.

Steve is on a mission to build a paradise for all of his guests and he’s done an amazing job! The property is beautiful with dams, bird life, and tranquillity. Hot showers and toilets were amazing. Steve is beyond welcoming and we enjoyed sharing stories and a beer with him. We booked three nights and extended as we loved it so much. Absolutely stunning location, clean facilities and great host. Don’t skip over this site, it is grassy, manicured to perfection, has shade, a dam that you can swim in with a pontoon and warm shower. Warren has nailed setting this site up for people who want a safe and nice location to stay.

We had a great camp setup at Pilgrims Rest! They aren’t kidding when they say 4x4 only. It was our first experience towing our van in these conditions: steep, rocky and creek crossings. (We nailed it). Got in and out of camp no issues even though it was a little tight. Excellent creek for the kids to explore right in eye sight of camp. A few cars came by but nothing that was disturbing. Had some visitors (cows and horses). Quiet and remote. No phone service. Star-link worked until the weather kicked off. We had a deluge in the afternoon and overnight. Anita came down in the morning to check the creek crossings on our departure day. Advised us to head off as soon as possible due to the possibility of being flooded in. Great hosts. Good communication and excellent directions given. If we are in the area again we would visit again.

Our site was fantastic, felt very private despite being so close to town and had wonderful shade from the trees. Short stroll down to the creek for a nice dip, which was much appreciated with the heat. Unfortunately we had to leave early due to stormy weather, but had a chance to meet Shane while we were packing up and he was so great to speak to. We will be back asap!
