Hold it Flats is a 120 acre property that borders the beautiful O'Connell River that has water all year round. Take a walk around the property to check out some of the creatures that have been built out of scrap metal and bush bars that have been built all around the property.
There is nice shady trees, green grass and flat camping sites right beside the river with hot showers and flushing toilets. There is plenty of room and some great tracks for the kids and the big kids to ride their push bikes on. The swimming hole is about 2 meters deep and has big shady trees on the edge. There is also enough room for kids to bring their kayaks and have a paddle along the river.
We have some hiking tracks up around the hills of our property that have amazing views of the area.
All campsites can be provided with their own fire pit. You just pick your spot and we will bring a portable fire pit to you. Fire wood can be purchased at the property. All rubbish must be taken when you, there are no rubbish bins provided.

On arrival, powered sites, please phone our on-site caretaker Dylan 0488 611 706, and he can assist you to find a spot that suits you and your group. Unpowered sites can choose anywhere suitable for them.
We do have internet reception. Occasionally reception can be weak depending on what the network is doing. Generally, it is not a problem.
Bring Mosquito/sandfly spray especially if camping by the lake.
Campfires allowed. Wood for sale, $10 cash per milk crate, from camp kitchen. Please be honest and place cash in the "Honesty Box".
Fire rings are available at the sites. Please leave them where they are as moving them is destroying the surrounding areas. Thankyou.

We your hosts, (Nancy and Shane) operate the adjoining Garden Centre and Raw Materials yard so there is always something happening and with vast local knowledge of what to do and where to go, we are only happy to help.
Opened in September 2024 we have planted a tropical fruit forest plantation as well as citrus orchard and with our 50 beautiful free-range chooks (pets) you will have them wandering around freely, clucking away happily.

Site 1 right down on the creek large grass flat space big enough for two families to set up camp. The creek runs around the outside so there are a number of viewing points to see the wildlife mentioned above. A set of solar lights hang over the firepit area allowing for more light while cooking on our wonderful swinging hotplate BBQ.
Site 2 Our newer spot work in progress not so ideal for camper trailers. your situated under our tree line away from the main creek. A smaller paver firepit, plenty fine for sitting around an open fire while watching the stars at night.
Swimming in the creek is not recommended.
So please check by internal message before confirming your booking that way we can confirm a spot while discussing your needs to ensure you have a clear view of your camping area.
Onsite we have our shared outhouse porta toilet which is positioned in the middle of both camping areas for everyone's convenience.

Hi everyone and welcome to our home — the very special Platypus Bush Camp.
Operating for over 40 years, this bush camp and rainforest retreat is often described as one of Australia’s most unique stays — and it really does feel that way. Four clear creeks flow all year into an absolutely stunning swimming hole, the largest and deepest in Finch Hatton Gorge.
The camp facilities are off-grid but offer powered sites. You’ll find all the modern comforts: flushing toilets, beautiful hot showers with rainforest views, large camp kitchens with everything you need (including a pizza oven and USB charging ports), and peaceful dining areas where you can hear the creek.

Hold it Flats is a 120 acre property that borders the beautiful O'Connell River that has water all year round. Take a walk around the property to check out some of the creatures that have been built out of scrap metal and bush bars that have been built all around the property.
There is nice shady trees, green grass and flat camping sites right beside the river with hot showers and flushing toilets. There is plenty of room and some great tracks for the kids and the big kids to ride their push bikes on. The swimming hole is about 2 meters deep and has big shady trees on the edge. There is also enough room for kids to bring their kayaks and have a paddle along the river.
We have some hiking tracks up around the hills of our property that have amazing views of the area.
All campsites can be provided with their own fire pit. You just pick your spot and we will bring a portable fire pit to you. Fire wood can be purchased at the property. All rubbish must be taken when you, there are no rubbish bins provided.

On arrival, powered sites, please phone our on-site caretaker Dylan 0488 611 706, and he can assist you to find a spot that suits you and your group. Unpowered sites can choose anywhere suitable for them.
We do have internet reception. Occasionally reception can be weak depending on what the network is doing. Generally, it is not a problem.
Bring Mosquito/sandfly spray especially if camping by the lake.
Campfires allowed. Wood for sale, $10 cash per milk crate, from camp kitchen. Please be honest and place cash in the "Honesty Box".
Fire rings are available at the sites. Please leave them where they are as moving them is destroying the surrounding areas. Thankyou.

We are located on Tully Mission Beach Road with the bike path between Wongaling Beach and Mission Beach running right past the front gates, so a quick ride into town and plenty of space to bring your boat!
We your hosts, (Nancy and Shane) operate the adjoining Garden Centre and Raw Materials yard so there is always something happening and with vast local knowledge of what to do and where to go, we are only happy to help.
Opened in September 2024 we have planted a tropical fruit forest plantation as well as citrus orchard and with our 50 beautiful free-range chooks (pets) you will have them wandering around freely, clucking away happily.

Site 1 right down on the creek large grass flat space big enough for two families to set up camp. The creek runs around the outside so there are a number of viewing points to see the wildlife mentioned above. A set of solar lights hang over the firepit area allowing for more light while cooking on our wonderful swinging hotplate BBQ.
Site 2 Our newer spot work in progress not so ideal for camper trailers. your situated under our tree line away from the main creek. A smaller paver firepit, plenty fine for sitting around an open fire while watching the stars at night.
Swimming in the creek is not recommended.
So please check by internal message before confirming your booking that way we can confirm a spot while discussing your needs to ensure you have a clear view of your camping area.
Onsite we have our shared outhouse porta toilet which is positioned in the middle of both camping areas for everyone's convenience.

Operating for over 40 years, this bush camp and rainforest retreat is often described as one of Australia’s most unique stays — and it really does feel that way. Four clear creeks flow all year into an absolutely stunning swimming hole, the largest and deepest in Finch Hatton Gorge.
The camp facilities are off-grid but offer powered sites. You’ll find all the modern comforts: flushing toilets, beautiful hot showers with rainforest views, large camp kitchens with everything you need (including a pizza oven and USB charging ports), and peaceful dining areas where you can hear the creek.

Magical little retreat. A warm welcoming by the host encouraging us to explore this gorgeous property. We will be back with our children for another swim in the creek! The facilities are brilliant too, the bathroom looks like it belongs in a show home, so fresh, new and clean. We are very thankful for our stay and would encourage others to visit.

Nice and quiet place for NYE. Grass had been nicely mowed and bonus was the creek had water for the dogs to splash around in. Would return.

We were in a 15ft van and were on riverside site 3. Katie-Ann was more than helpful and very responsive. Beautiful spot to relax as well as make base camp while exploring Mackay and Cathu State Forest. Amenities were spotless. Will definitely be coming back!

Hartleys Creek Retreat pleasantly surprised us with beautiful creek-side, large and well maintained sites. Dean greeted us apon arrival providing guidance and site information as well as hints & tips for the immediate area. The amenities are modern, clean and easily accessible from all sites. Hartleys Creek Retreat is well located between Port Douglas and Cairns and an easy drive to must see attractions in the area. If you're seeking a beautiful and quiet spot away from tourist-dense accommodation look up Dean and.the team at Hartleys Creek Retreat!

Besides the weather which was out of everyone's control. It's a very relaxed laid back site..Ben is very approachability and has a very laid back attitude..definitely will be camping there in the future weather permitting.

Nice and quiet spot secluded from the rest of the camp area. We only really had to supply ourselves with food and drinks as everything else such as firewood and cooking supplies was already supplied. Definitely will be back again.

My absolute go-to spot when passing through Townsville, always a lovely stay! Even after all the recent rain and mud, the amenities were spotless. The hosts are fantastic as ever.
A quick note to fellow campers: tiny things like bottle caps or yogurt lids on the ground add up fast. Same with food scraps, they attract unwanted critters. Let's all Leave Every Place Better than we found it. Spot any trash? Pick it up and pack it out, it keeps these special spots available for everyone!

Dean & family go WAY beyond to help make sure everyone is comfortable.
Creek is beautiful & filled very quick with rain
Walk to the falls was great.
Amenities area are immaculately kept & a credit to how well the family run it
10/10 will definitely be back
