A cane train line runs across the front of the property so during cane season the trains come past a few times during the day and night. They can be noisy but are fairly quick. Be aware tropical North Queensland has paralysis ticks and we have snakes at times and visiting pigs. Water can be supplied upon request. Power generators are permitted . We are 10mins from Dimbulah or 20mins to Mareeba with their many attractions. We can tell you all about the many attractions and activities this area has to offer. Please Note: Cattle Creek and Waterfront Campsites are accessible by 2WD. The other campsites are 4WD access only and with off road campers/caravans only (high clearance to get through a dry creek crossing). These are self contained sites so please take your own shower and toilet facilities and take away all waste. What a lovely spot! We were unfortunately there with the March flies ( November in the tropics!) but we lit a fire and they mostly left us alone to watch the birds. Theresa & Frank offered us the use of the swimming pool but it was cool enough at this altitude that we enjoyed a walk with our pooch and a glass of red by the fire.

Hectic Valley is a young and working farm and we really enjoyed our stay! The sites are very generous, with plenty of shady trees (bring your hammock!) and some right next to the dam which hosts many birds and some of the farms poultry. Its dog friendly with lovely scenery and little bush tracks. Campfires allowed and some fire rings are provided. In the booking was the option to include the animal feeding in the morning which I'm so glad we did! We were very warmely welcomed and everyone had a wonderful time feeding and playing with the baby goats, chickens and geese, goats and pigs, camels and water buffalos and many more! Best stay for families with children including groups of families!

Hosts are happy to show campers around our market garden that we start cultivating after the wet season and usually continue until December - weather dependant. Guests will have access to a portable fire place during their stay as well as a BBQ grill and hotplate. Firewood is available for purchase. Our 150acre property has spectacular mountain views, as well as views to Port Douglas and the Coral Sea. There are small creeks on the property that attract birdlife and have a variety of freshwater fish and turtles in them. Nearby there are several larger creeks for cooling off, and properties with horses, cattle and sugarcane. We are a 15min drive to Mossman, the closest town, and 45mins south to Port Douglas or north to the Daintree township. You can take a shortcut to the road to Daintree via the WWII Japanese Miallo Bombing Memorial.

Watch the brahman beef cattle grazing around the park. The Osborne family are pioneers in farming in Daintree going back five generations. Daintree Village is a short stroll up Dagmar Street before reaching public toilets, mail box (pick up mail from Daintree Village Hotel), Croc Xpresso Cafe (breakfast & lunch), Daintree Village Hotel (lunch & dinner), Daintree Originals (souvenirs, arts, crafts, t-shirts and tropical clothing). The CREB Track is nearby running through the heart of the Daintree Rainforest to Roaring Meg Falls and on to Wujal Wujal. Only 4x4 vehicles without trailers on this adventurous track. The CREB Track is currently open. Also there is the Bloomfield Track running from Wujal Wujal to Cape Tribulation. A large open marquee area is provided shelter and shade between all sites. Table and chairs are provided. We welcome your pets but they will have to be on leash. Campfires are now allowed onsite in the fire pit.

We have a peaceful spot right on the edge of our dam which is stocked with Barramundi, with fish feeding every afternoon. From here it's only minutes to the centre of Mareeba, 45 minutes to Cairns and only half an hour to Lake Tinaroo which is famous for its fishing with its monster Barra. We are also close to several national parks with sensational swimming holes. You can choose to set up camp facing the back of the block looking out into the bush for complete privacy and watch the kangaroos and wallabies, or you can set up overlooking the dam and looking up the block to the back of the house. We welcome self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower. There is access to drinking water and power. Our property is nestled in a quiet location except for the birdlife, backing onto bushland with a small creek on one side and a dam full of Barra and native fish on the other. There is a big level pad to set up on right on the edge of the dam. The campsite area is 2WD accessible and there's plenty of room for all types of camping vehicles. No pets please.

Juliet and Grant have been custodians since 2003, in that time we've built a house, raised a family and now that Alex and Hayley are both at University, life has become a little quieter, (not so sure if we like the quiet though!) Now we've only just started with Hipcamp, we do have a lot to discover, happy to listen and learn. We do offer plenty of space and you will not be crowded out as we keep numbers very limited. No facilities, no toilets, showers, electricity, rubbish bins etc. We do ask that you respect this as you must be fully self contained. We do not consider, a bucket with a lid, to be self contained ok! Right now though in our top dam, we have a flock of White Egrets roosting at night, spectacular when they depart & return each day, however due to the number of these birds, hundreds if not more! they have fouled the water in the dam & it's a bit on the nose.
