We stayed 1 night in our van with 2 dogs. Lots of room between sites so you definitely don't feel like you're on top of each other. The dam has 2 sandy beach access points on either side of the jetty and was awesome to swim in on a hot day. There are even kayaks to use. Toilets were very clean. Hosts are really friendly and gave us a quick run down of the site and then left us to it. We've already told all our family about Dam Crazy and will certainly be back again.

Weekend Trip to Dam Crazy Camping

Great spot, fantastic dam for swimming and a paddle with free kayak use. Love the jetty and boat shed! Beautiful grassed campground but be prepared to do some leveling if you are in a caravan on some sites. Can't comment on toilet's as we are self contained so didn't use those facilities.

Weekend Trip to Dam Crazy Camping

Such a gorgeous spot!! We had an incredible time camping at site 2, plenty of space from other campers! The toilets were flush toilets, with running handwashing water and soap, very clean! Our dog had the best time watching all the activity, going for leash free walkies on the hiking trail and having nice big swims in the dam! We also had fun with the complimentary kayaks! Owner is super nice and welcoming! This will definitely be our family camping spot from now on!

When to go

Book well ahead at any time of year, especially for camping on Fraser Island. During whale-watching season (August to October), the region is busy. The best weather is in Spring (September to November), when there is little rain and the summer humidity hasn’t kicked in yet.

Know before you go

Allow at least three days to explore Fraser Island.
On Fraser Island, it is illegal to feed or interact with dingos (wild dogs), which have been responsible for fatal attacks on visitors. Heavy fines apply.
Whale watching season in Hervey Bay runs from August to October.
Camping permits are required for all Queensland National Parks, forests and reserves and must be booked online and paid for before arrival.
