If you are as intrigued by rare animals as we are, then this is the place for you. 63 Bird species, 24 mammals, 16 reptiles, and 12 amphibians have been sighted in the area (Clarke 2012) and this includes many rare and endangered species including the platypus, brush-tailed rock wallaby, Giant burrowing frog, Gang-gang cockatoo, Glossy black-cockatoo, Koala, Little Lorikeet and the Yellow-bellied glider.
We only have three campsites at present, so you will be guaranteed peace, space and privacy. with a minimum of 400m between all sites. Please note, that your group must be self-contained, with their own camp toilet, however fresh drinking water is available.
Access is into a valley on a well maintained unsealed road but there are some minor causeways making it unsuitable for busses or long low slung vans. An ordinary sedan will do for Billabong and Dad's camp sites but you will need some power for towing and a 4x4 to tow out in any rain. Riverbend site is only suitable for 4x4's and off-road camp trailers.

Yerrinbool is 1 hour from Sydney and a great spot to spend a weekend away, 15 mins from Bowral and 10 mins to Mittagong
There are animals on the farm including ducks, chickens, goats, sheep and sometimes even baby cows.
The property does need a little clean up but the rear of the property is nice and tranquil. We are directly next to the HWY so sometimes there is road noise, but it's a great location for an easy stopover. Easy access for caravans, keeping in mind the weather as like in all areas it becomes soft when wet.
Please note, while we do permit more than one car per site booking, we only allow 1 caravan per site. So if you are in a group with more than 1 caravan, you will need to book multiple sites. Any questions, please let us know.
We have Fire Pits in key locations around the farm PLEASE DO NOT move them as they signify each spot for camping. They have allocated spots and we do not need them moved.
We also have a toilet in a small shed in the rear paddock for people who are using tents. Also when you come to the campsite please insure that when using the toilet to keep it clean as it is a bush toilet.
Water to flush the toilet is in a tank behind the shed and if your a male please use a tree for number 1. We want to minimise flushes where possible, please keep clean for the next camper.
and water is at the front of the property, if you're required to fill your tanks or rinse off.
We have two dams with yabbies you are welcome to collect. If you do collect some please be respectful in the amounts you collect and also throw some raw meat and or frozen veggies like peas and corn into the dam to provide food for the others to grow.

Coming into summer camp fires are subject to weather conditions and fire warnings.
Campers must be self-contained. Off grid campers, 4wd vehicles with pop ups or tents on ground and RVs can be accommodated. We have a leave only footprints philosophy. All rubbish and waste (human, animal & general) must be taken off property.

The lush green hills abound with walking and cycling trails. The closest shops are approximately a 15 minute drive to the Mittagong Town Centre where you will find all the shops, cafes and restaurants for your needs. It is well worth a visit to ‘The Shaggy Cow’ cafe, one of our favourite foodie spots (don’t forget to mention Elouera Vale).
While you're here please try the Cool Climate wines. The region’s rich soil and high altitude are ideal for cool-climate wine growing. Visit cellar doors in the hills and valleys around Mittagong, including Centennial Vineyards. Enjoy a pleasant wine tasting experience at Centennial (don’t forget to mention us).
The Camel Cottage offers a luxe off-the-grid escape for couples just one hour from Sydney but feels like "miles from anywhere".

Misty Mountain Farm is a family run working beef cattle property and horse training facility situated at the base of picturesque Coolangatta Mountain.
Camp grounds are well maintained grass paddocks surrounded by beautiful picturesque scenery.

Bring your mountain bike, fishing rod, swimmers, hiking boots, tennis racket, basketball (a hoop on the tennis court) or climbing gear and leave the kids in the play area while you sit by the creek and listen to the water tumbling through the rocks.
If you are as intrigued by rare animals as we are, then this is the place for you. 63 Bird species, 24 mammals, 16 reptiles, and 12 amphibians have been sighted in the area (Clarke 2012) and this includes many rare and endangered species including the platypus, brush-tailed rock wallaby, Giant burrowing frog, Gang-gang cockatoo, Glossy black-cockatoo, Koala, Little Lorikeet and the Yellow-bellied glider.
We only have three campsites at present, so you will be guaranteed peace, space and privacy. with a minimum of 400m between all sites. Please note, that your group must be self-contained, with their own camp toilet, however fresh drinking water is available.
Access is into a valley on a well maintained unsealed road but there are some minor causeways making it unsuitable for busses or long low slung vans. An ordinary sedan will do for Billabong and Dad's camp sites but you will need some power for towing and a 4x4 to tow out in any rain. Riverbend site is only suitable for 4x4's and off-road camp trailers.

There are animals on the farm including ducks, chickens, goats, sheep and sometimes even baby cows.
The property does need a little clean up but the rear of the property is nice and tranquil. We are directly next to the HWY so sometimes there is road noise, but it's a great location for an easy stopover. Easy access for caravans, keeping in mind the weather as like in all areas it becomes soft when wet.
Please note, while we do permit more than one car per site booking, we only allow 1 caravan per site. So if you are in a group with more than 1 caravan, you will need to book multiple sites. Any questions, please let us know.
We have Fire Pits in key locations around the farm PLEASE DO NOT move them as they signify each spot for camping. They have allocated spots and we do not need them moved.
We also have a toilet in a small shed in the rear paddock for people who are using tents. Also when you come to the campsite please insure that when using the toilet to keep it clean as it is a bush toilet.
Water to flush the toilet is in a tank behind the shed and if your a male please use a tree for number 1. We want to minimise flushes where possible, please keep clean for the next camper.
and water is at the front of the property, if you're required to fill your tanks or rinse off.
We have two dams with yabbies you are welcome to collect. If you do collect some please be respectful in the amounts you collect and also throw some raw meat and or frozen veggies like peas and corn into the dam to provide food for the others to grow.

Coming into summer camp fires are subject to weather conditions and fire warnings.
Campers must be self-contained. Off grid campers, 4wd vehicles with pop ups or tents on ground and RVs can be accommodated. We have a leave only footprints philosophy. All rubbish and waste (human, animal & general) must be taken off property.

The closest shops are approximately a 15 minute drive to the Mittagong Town Centre where you will find all the shops, cafes and restaurants for your needs. It is well worth a visit to ‘The Shaggy Cow’ cafe, one of our favourite foodie spots (don’t forget to mention Elouera Vale).
While you're here please try the Cool Climate wines. The region’s rich soil and high altitude are ideal for cool-climate wine growing. Visit cellar doors in the hills and valleys around Mittagong, including Centennial Vineyards. Enjoy a pleasant wine tasting experience at Centennial (don’t forget to mention us).
The Camel Cottage offers a luxe off-the-grid escape for couples just one hour from Sydney but feels like "miles from anywhere".

I checked in late with no issues. There wasn’t the Hip Camp sign but once I drove to the property Bruce was there to greet me. He was very kind and I had the choice of a few camp spots. I stopped over during a long drive.

We loved the campsite and total vibe. Clean toilets and showers. Sites are placed far apart which gives you more privacy. Lots of firewood on site. Definitely going to recommend this place.

It’s a simple grassy paddock with fireplace/firepit. It’s nothing special but for a night or two it’s absolutely perfect. Easy access. Short drive from Wollongong. Had no issues at all. Thankyou!

Beautiful spot at the back of a horse property. A little babbling Creek in walking distance. Able to reverse a 19'6 caravan into the space.
Kirsty was friendly and accommodating of a request for early arrival due to extreme heat. Excellent location for Nowra, Jervis Bay exploring.

What a wonderful place to stay, Mel was a fabulous host. So tranquil, directions were good but vague, we missed the turnoff so could do with a sign on the fence from the road possibly.
Otherwise such a lovely spot, nice little creek flowing next to our site. Easy access with our 14ft caravan and Triton, also had a Hyundai i load with no dramas. Overall we would come again. Good access to Wattamola falls Beach, Thirroul etc.

We had a great weekend staying at Dharawal Camp. The camp has plenty of flat ground for tents, easy parking for campervans, and a spacious cabin with running water, some basic supplies and a ping pong table to entertain little ones. Jinnga waterhold nearby was beautiful and really worth the walk. We also had the pleasure of learning about David's art practice with his add-on art lesson, and would highly recommend this to others.

My son Alex and I loved the place. Just the perfect little getaway for a few nights. The farm is amazing, chickens and horses wandering around all day, there are sheep next door. Beautiful scenery, perfect sky at night - tranquility at its finest 🙏🥰

I liked how secluded and private the camp site. It’s nice to pitch a tent on grassy ground.
It’s surrounded by trees, so we got plenty of shades and avoided the sun during high heat of 37C.
The toilet is not near, maybe 250 metres away. I don’t mind the walk at day light. It’s a flush toilet, has sink to wash hands. Bring your own soap and toilet paper. It has sensor lights and switch light inside.
Very low traffic sound, not bothered at all. We hear mostly birds chirping, which is great. Grocery is 8 minutes drive.
Carrinton falls is about 5 mins Drive. Illawara Fly Tree top is about 10mins. The delicious Robertson Pie 3 mins drive. Must try lemon tart and chunky beef pie.
Anyway, overall we enjoyed our stay.
Highly recommends this camp site if you want to explore around the area.

We loved camping at Secrets of Terara! Site 4 is very spacious compared to the other sites, though keep in mind it’s the furthest from the toilets, so there’s a bit of a walk. The property appears to be a working farm, with old equipment and sheds scattered around. While this adds character, it’s worth noting that it may not be the safest for little ones - we had to keep a close eye on our daughter.
There’s no drinking water on site, but the toilets are modern and clean. We brought our own portable shower, which worked well. The location feels wonderfully secluded and peaceful, yet Nowra is just a short drive away if you need supplies. Jervis Bay is also nearby. Highly recommend Wowly Creek at Callala Bay for a swim!
Paula was fantastic and super responsive throughout our stay. Overall, a beautiful spot and we’ll definitely be back!

Just had a great 2 nights at Hidden brook. We originally planned to stay by the Oaks. The day we got there it was 35 degrees and with us bringing dogs with us we thought down by the dam would be perfect. Lisa came and seen us and this was no problem. The dogs and us did have a swim in the dam.

Grand Pacific Drive
NSW’s answer to Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, the Grand Pacific Drive (also known as Lawrence Hargrave Drive) is a cliffside scenic route that meanders along the coastline south of Sydney. Soak in the views from Stanwell Tops, then wind along the edge of the cliffs 50 metres out to sea on the famous cantilevered Sea Cliff Bridge between Coalcliff and Clifton. After that, you’ll want to hop from beach to beach—most have a caravan park or beachside camping ground nearby—all the way to Wollongong.
Southern Highlands
Reminiscent of England with green hills, stone houses, and cool-climate gardens of tulips and daffodils in spring, these highlands that flank the coast between Sydney and Wollongong are the place for a country weekend getaway. You’ll find good holiday parks in the towns of Mittagong, Moss Vale, and Bowral, or choose to bush camp in riverside camping areas in the state forests and national parks. Bring your winter woollies—it can get cold at night.
Kangaroo Valley
Valleys don’t get much prettier than Kangaroo Valley, just over an hour’s drive southwest of the ‘Gong and home to the oldest suspension bridge in Australia, set over the Kangaroo River. Despite the name, you’ll probably see more wombats than wallabies at riverside camping spots, caravan parks, and glamping areas. Nearby must-sees include Fitzroy Falls in Moreton National Park.
Shellharbour, Kiama, Berry, and Jamberoo
Watch the waves woosh through the blowhole at Kiama, climb the Illawarra Fly (a bouncy, 500-metre-long, 25-metre-high, elevated treetop walk near Robertson), tackle the waterslides at Jamberoo Action Park, walk with lyrebirds in the rainforest at Minnamurra, or feed your sweet tooth with a hot donut from Berry Donut Farm. If you’re a surfer (or just a lover of sleeping by the sea), head to The Farm at Killalea State Park, where the campsites are right behind the beach.
When to go
Summer time is best for seaside camping, especially if you plan on swimming. Camping and caravanning are top choices on the South Coast during the summer months and school holidays, especially in late December and throughout January, when you’ll need to book well in advance to secure a place. If you want to see whales, go between June and November.
Know before you go
- The wheelchair-accessible boardwalk leading to Minnamurra Falls in Minnamurra Rainforest is perfect for families.
- Set at Stanwell Tops just north of Wollongong, 275-metre-high Bald Hill is Australia’s best spot for hang-gliding and paragliding thanks to ocean views with Royal National Park to the north and the escarpment to the south. Tandem flights are available—no experience needed...just a good head for heights.
- The surf beaches of the Illawarra are a great place to learn to surf.
