Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120-acre (50-hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family. Living in our shed whilst we prepared the garden, installed watering infrastructure, and built our house, which we finally moved into when our daughter was 6 months old in 1990. Over the ensuing years, we have continued to increase biodiversity on the property and set it up so we can live sustainably, harvesting our own water, electricity, and food. If you're lucky, you could get a hamper of our product when there is sufficient in season. With the increased biodiversity, you will find that in the mornings and evenings, kangaroos and wallabies will visit with the occasional echidna, rabbi,t and hare; and to forget the large array of bird life - that may wake you early in the morning with the songs. This campsite is set on lovely grassy open areas interspersed with gum trees. The sunrise looks spectacular near the dam, when the trees give off a lovely glow. The main paddock has a Geodome, a shared space for relaxing in. With all that space, you can park and set up camp anywhere in the paddock. There is access to drinking water, toilets, and a hot shower. Around the dome is a fire pit, drinking water, and a camp kitchen. The fire pit features an Argentinian BBQ and a plate for cooking. The kitchen has plates, cups, cutlery, and other bits and pieces for you to use. We also allow your pets to stay on-site; this includes horses. The 15-acre camping area is part of a mixed-farming property (1,500 acres) and has easy access for campervans. The site is 8–10 minutes from Gundagai. A canoer’s paradise! Put your canoe in a few kilometres upstream and finish at the campsite, or simply enjoy the solitude around the fire. A scenic drive following the Murrumbidgee and Tumut Rivers can be taken as an alternative route to Tumut or Gundagai. The site can be used as a base camp for fishing, wineries, bushwalking, and ski fields. There is free firewood for campfires. Friendly, well-controlled pets are welcome, as long as they don’t disturb other campers. Please be mindful that cattle and sheep may be grazing nearby. Children must be supervised at all times, as the river can be fast-moving and become deep quickly. There may also be snakes in the area from time to time. With over 600 acres of Australian bush, our property is ideal for campers that want their own space. We are completely off-grid (no wifi to distract you) and we run off tank water (for this reason showers are only available for two hours in the evening). There are multiple camp sites on the property - some are close to hot showers and toilets, others are within a short walking distance. Some sites are perfect for our self sufficient campers who might want a nice private location and don't need access to amenities. There are two shared camp kitchen areas (with pizza ovens and bbqs). We have two amenities blocks with toilets and hot showers and two further compost toilets located at other sites. Campfires are permitted in designated areas (check with us when booking) and firewood can be added to your booking - we do require at least 24 hours notice if you want wood. There are lots of old-style games for the kids such as cricket, tennis, playground, bikes available, a swim in the dam and general country running around fun! Unfortunately we no longer have our flying fox, but there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy. We have some great bush walking areas where you might be lucky enough to see our resident wombats or our breeding pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles. The property dates back to the early 1900s and there are numerous historic buildings on the property. The earliest is a wooden slab hut that was built around the beginning of the 19th century - the Goulburn Penny Post newspaper, dated 3 December 1904 lines the walls of the hut. It also has a two shearing stand wooden shed built by Marcus Dawe in 1922. We try to make sure all of our guests have a great experience - so if you have any special requests reach out to us and have a chat!

Old Chinese gold works near the site to inspect. A dam is available for swimming or catching yabbies. It is not safe to swim in the river due to flood wrack. There is plenty of wildlife particularly if you are into bird watching. Outside of the fire danger period you are welcome to build camp fires in the fireplace. Lots of native animals to see. There are 4 species of macropod, wombats, and 3 possum species. A bird watchers paradise. Bush walking. Close to cold climate wineries and horse riding. We can provide a driver for winery visits. Drinking and cooking water available. Our cabin is fully contained with all that you need for a comfortable stay. Dogs permitted but must be well controlled and NOT chase livestock. We loved being off the beaten track at Bill’s hipcamp site! The nature is stunning, we saw wedge-tail eagles, king parrots, cockatoos, kangaroos and lots of wombat burrows, unfortunately didn’t get the chance to go spotlighting at night to see a wombat due to the weather being surprisingly cold and windy. Next time we will bring warmer clothes in summer! The waterfall near upper creekside site is stunning, would be great to come after a big downpour. The sheep were very vocal but we loved the sounds! All round a great stay.

An extensive river side campsite with easy 2WD access to the property. A mix of clear campsites suitable for caravans and tree grove campsites great for rooftop or tent camping. There were drop toilets available which were surprisingly clean. Be aware that in summer months the fly population will be significant due to it being a working cattle property but in cooler months no problem and the bonus of being able to have a campfire.

We loved our stay at Bahwidgee. So peaceful and relaxing. Was easy access in on a well maintained road. Level grassy sites of your choice right on the Tumut River. River was a bit chilly due to recent snow but was so refreshing. We loved the cows coming past for their afternoon stroll. Thanks Wayne for offering a beautiful property for others to enjoy. Highly recommend. One of our favourite Hipcamps so far.

Great spot right on banks of Tumut River. Clean pit toilet, friendly cows, plenty of space and privacy. River was cold when we were there in December but still beautiful for a dip and crystal clear. A sign of a good hipcamp is if you would return or not and we will certainly be back.

What a ripper HipCamp. The views are amazing and you have the whole campsite to yourself. Great fire set up with log benches either side. A composting toilet if you need. The drive in is down a steep track. You want high clearance. We have a 19ft off road caravan with a 4WD and had no troubles getting in. There is a beautiful , but steep 1km walking track down to the Murrumbidgee River. The hosts were lovely. We have stayed at a lot of HipCamps, this would be 1 of our favourites. We book for 1 night, stayed for 2 and will be back.

Beautiful spot, views amazing, ditto birdlife. About 8 to 10 riverside spots, which are easy for any vehicle to access and can cope with large groups. Only 5 mins from Tumut coffee etc but can only see hills and river from camp. Camp-site area is regular rectangle bounded by river on one side and fences on the others, so could fit another 8 to 10 along the back. 87 would prob require vertical stacking.
