Lake Superior's vast shoreline extends across the northern portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Upper Peninsula Michigan, making the opportunities for exploration endless. Among the many scenic spots along Wisconsin's shores are the famous Apostle Islands. You'll find 21 islands in the park and over 50 campsites, a majority of which can only be reached by boat. Some islands only play host to a single campsite, making this your own "private" island for the night. The park also hosts a world of winter activities once the mercury starts to fall. Imagine the thrill of walking across a frozen lake and exploring the unusual sea caves, normally only accessible by boat during the warm summer months. Another popular destination along Lake Superior is the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. With 42 miles of parkland at your fingertips, you can enjoy the waterfalls, sand dunes, and magnificent sandstone cliff vistas. Sea kayaking is a popular way to explore the shore, but if you forgot your boat, fear not. Tour operators in the area also offer sightseeing cruises. Winter, spring, summer or fall, Lake Superior camping has something for all.
