The Kingdom Pit

5 sites ¡ RVs, Tents100 acres ¡ Belfast, ME
This is an old gravel pit that is in the process of returning back to nature. Lots of huge piles of rocks that resemble a sci fi landscape. Wetlands, forest and fields and lots of sandy, gravel areas to park....as well some rather rugged areas not so accessible that are in the process of remediation. There is a lot of wide open sky for night viewing. Slowly adding gardens and fruit trees and making trails through the forest. We have water drilled but not yet accessible for use. Next year!! The property is off grid and there is no outhouse so self contained units only. Out house coming 2024! The Kingdom Road is often labeled Hidden Valley Road. We are one mile down the road from Route 3, half hour West of Belfast. There are 100 acres surrounded by Timberlands to explore. There is a small vernal pond we are hoping to keep filled once the well (at 50 gallons a minute!!) is accessed by solar. We swim in it when the rains are plentiful. Feel free to make a fire pit in the gravel pit. Please use all available wood for your fires!! Lots of it! Note that the road is often called Hidden Valley as well as Kingdom Road. This whole area is called "The Kingdom."

The sister islands, shaped like a pair of spectacles as their name suggests, offer opportunities for swimming, blueberry picking, camping, and general exploration. Although the islands make up a small portion of the 1000+ acres protected by Midcoast Conservancy in the Damariscotta Lake Watershed, they are among the most popular. The islands have long been a gathering spot for local families to swim. The islands were donated to Midcoast Conservancy in 2000 and are now forever protected. When you reserve your spot on Spectacle Island, know that it comes with a healthy dose of day use during peak summer weekends.

You’ve got resident loons, with their haunting laughter echoing across the lake, undeveloped islands for picnicking and exploring, and campsites that hug the shore, offering spectacular sunrises from the comfort of your sleeping bag. Parents will love the lifeguarded beach, play area, and picnic spots right on the water. Kids, well they’ll just love being in the water. This is the family vacation to write home about, load up the old canoe and a couple of fishing poles and start relaxing on Lake St. George.
