People often think of Florida as simply a land made up of swamps, beaches, and theme parks filled with geriatrics and people who can’t tally votes. While that’s not exactly untrue, the state has a lot more to offer, like caves. That’s right: Florida-- where you can’t have a basement-- has an incredible cave system thanks to the karst (limestone and dolomite) landscape. Florida Caverns State Park has one of the most impressive caves in the state—a dry cavern filled with a staggering array of stalagmites, stalactites, draperies, soda straws, and flowstones—and is the only park in Florida offering cave tours. Aside from the main attraction, there’s also great canoeing, fishing, boating, and horseback riding.
