“Oh beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain, for purple mountain majesties...;” Wait, what? Purple mountains? Yep! Visit Pike National Forest for a sunrise over Pikes Peak and you’ll see just what the author meant when she penned those lyrics after visiting the area. When you’re done wiping that patriotic tear from your eye, head out to explore the pristine mountain lakes and heart pumping trails! There’s easy access to Garden of the Gods for climbers and photographers. On your way back to camp, stop into the quirky little town of Manitou Springs to spend your loose change at the Penny Arcade. Diverse wilderness areas will lead you to areas where dinosaurs were known to roam and Pike National Forest contains a huge chunk of 14ers (mountains over 14,000 feet) for you to conquer. You’ll be humming "America, The Beautiful" all the way to top, cause it sure is a beaut here!
