Quebec is a kind of promised land for campers, with vast swathes of parkland and sparsely inhabited wilderness—you won’t have trouble getting outside. North of Montreal and Quebec City, forested mountains and lake-dotted valleys dominate the landscape with endless hiking, fishing, and canoeing opportunities during reliably warm summers. To the east, the St. Lawrence River is one of Canada’s best whale-watching destinations.

Winter, though cold, proves no obstacle to the adventure-hungry. Our advice? Pack your thermals. That way, you can spend days ice climbing, snowshoeing, and skiing, and nights cozied up in a cabin, an insulated tent, a yurt, or even an igloo. As a general rule, the further north you go, the wilder the landscapes and fewer the facilities.

The rounded peaks of the Laurentians are the destination of choice from Montreal and Quebec City. Jacques-Cartier, Mont-Tremblant (both part of the provincial park system), and La Mauricie (part of the national park network) have four-season appeal. You can get in some rafting, kayaking, and hiking in summer, while in winter, heated cabins, huts, and yurts mean you can wake up, strap on your skis or snowshoes, and hit the trails with minimal fuss.

The St. Lawrence River meets the Atlantic at this cliff-edged peninsula—also known as Gaspésie—on Quebec’s east coast. Scan the shoreline for whales in Forillon National Park between May and October, or cat ski on virgin powder in the Chic-Choc Mountains in the icier months.

French for ‘North Shore,’ this section of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence is ripe for road-tripping. Coastal campsites at Tadoussac overlook Saguenay Fjord, a hangout for belugas, and further east, at Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve, you can set eyes on strange sea-carved rock formations and hide out on secluded offshore islands.

This farming region near the U.S. border gives off New England vibes—think covered bridges, clapboard towns, and flaming fall foliage. It’s also Quebec’s premier wine-growing region. Mont-Orford is popular for skiing or hiking, and the stargazing at Mont-Mégantic National Park is—excuse the pun—stellar.

Visitor footfall is low in Nunavik, home to the Inuit in the Arctic north. Little surprise why: There’s no road access. Nunavik Parks offers packages to the area’s four parks (Pingualuit, Kuururjuaq, Tursujuq, and Ulittaniujalik) including flights from Montreal, Inuit cultural experiences, and the chance to see the northern lights.

Il y a une douche chauffée à pleine pression, des toilettes à compost, un évier extérieur et une station de cuisson. Il y a une cheminée dans la cabane avec beaucoup de bois. Le sol est principalement constitué de tremplins naturels, cueillis à la main dans les bois. La cabane est nichée dans une forêt magique de mousse et de fougères avec des lucioles, des hiboux, des cerfs et des renards. Il y a des sentiers de randonnée paisibles et entretenus. Un foyer extérieur de cuisine en forme de sphère sous des lampes solaires lucioles ajoute à l’expérience magique. Remontez le temps et découvrez la rare sagesse des érables à sucre mesurant plus de 150 pieds de haut. Cabine Luciole is a heritage Sugar Maple Cabin built in the late 1800's. It is located in an mossy, old growth maple forest with towering majestic maple trees. It is built on a leyline by Irish (Erin) settlers, giving it powerful energy to rejuvinate. You can also walk the cretan labyrinth, to bring balance. catherdral tin roof cabin has enough space for dinning, entertaining and yoga, it also has a sleeping loft for 2 people, and can be used as a reading nook, bring your own sleeping bags, pillows, and towels and you are welcome to set up a tent on the outdoor camping site. There is a heated full pressure shower, compost toilet and an outdoor sink and cooking station. The site is booked for complete privacy, only one group booking at a time, so you have your own private spot in the woods. There is a fireplace in the cabin with plenty of wood. The floor is mostly nature stepping stones, hand picked from the woods. The cabin is nestled in a moss and fern magical woods with fireflies, owls, deer, and foxes. There are groomed peaceful walking trails. A sphere shaped cooking outdoor fireplace under firefly solar lights adds to the magical experience. There are wonderful activates such as fishing, kayaking (Safari Kayak) and bike trails in the local area. Go back in time and experience the rare wisdom of the sugar maple trees that are over 150 feet tall. You will never want to leave, come back and see the trees colourful splendor in the fall and in early spring we plan to have hands on maple syrup making.

I built this cabin to be a romantic, cozy off-grid getaway for humans , but if most of our guests are being honest, the dogs are the ones having the best time. There’s a cozy queen bed with fresh linens and a down duvet. A covered deck with handcrafted rocking chairs for sunset views. A private fire area below for campfires and stargazing. LED lighting, a Bluetooth speaker, a Jackery battery bank, clean well water, lanterns, an outdoor shower, and a clean outhouse. I’ll even haul your gear in by ATV so you can settle in without the hassle. And after all that work, most guests still seem to agree on the real highlight: Watching their dogs absolutely lose their minds with happiness. More than anything, this place has become a favourite for people who want to give their dogs the kind of freedom they rarely get anywhere else. Most of our guests tell us over and over, that their favourite part is watching their best friends make their own decisions, run the trails, sniff everything, chase chipmunks, explore the forest, and basically have the time of their lives. Of course, the humans tend to enjoy themselves too. The cabin sits on a west-facing cliff on our private 164-acre property. Once you arrive, you’ll have the feeling of having the whole place to yourselves. The trails, the forest, the quiet, the sunsets, it all feels wonderfully removed from the usual noise. This time of year, the forest is waking up, and the property starts to shift into spring. It’s a beautiful season here, muddy in spots, full of fresh smells, birdsong, and that feeling that everything is coming back to life. For dogs, it’s heaven. For people, it’s a chance to unplug, slow down, and enjoy a kind of peace that’s getting harder to find. You’ll have access to 10 km of private trails through forest, ridgelines, and lakeshore. We've prepared a flat space for setting up a tent in the heart of the forest with a view of the lake; you'll be very secluded! Access to an outdoor compost toilet is available at all times. Access to the wild lake out back with canoes on-site. Access to the fire pit. Access to numerous hiking trails nearby. If money is an issue, we can work out help in the garden or elsewhere in exchange for your campsite. Looking forward to meeting you!

I stayed 1 night at Agape Gardens on a solo getaway & loved every minute of it. Jennie's so kind & welcoming, and the whole place has such a peaceful and calming energy. Surrounded by nature, quiet, fresh air… it was exactly what I needed to disconnect, relax, read, and recharge. Everything was also super clean and well taken care of. I enjoyed the experience so much that before even leaving I booked my next stay a few days later. Can’t wait to come back!

Camp dans Rouge is a lovely cabin equipped with everything you need. She is a very attentive host who wants to ensure that you have a comfortable stay. The red river is beautiful and so is the forest behind the cabin. Had a lovely time grilling and enjoyed the warmth of the campfire on a chilly night. Highly recommend this hipcamp.

David’s camping spot is magical. Located right on a small private lake in front his parents’ property, only 10-12 minutes from La Tuque. We didn’t get to meet David as he was away, but we did meet David’s parents, who are incredible hosts: hospitable, considerate, kind, and absolutely hilarious. True gems we felt lucky to have met. They made us feel right at home. The only downside is the property is right next to a country road, which can get a little noisy at times, but honestly we didn’t even notice it much. We were quite sad to leave and hope to come back.

Weekend Trip to Little Forest Lake

We absolutely loved our stay here. The setting is beautiful, perfect for fishing, relaxing, and stargazing at night. The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We also brought our two dogs, and it turned out to be a great spot for them as well. The only minor downside was the nearby road, as you can hear trucks passing at night. That said, it didn’t take away from what was overall an amazing camping experience. We would definitely come back!

Nous avons aimé le magnifique paysage de cet jolie camping, aménagé avec tant de soin. Le calme y régnait et nous avons eu le privilège de découvrir la fabrication artisanale de sirop d'érable dans une ancienne cabane à sucre, tout près du camping. La chaleur est extrêmement conviviale et agréable. Je recommande vivement cet endroit. We loved the beautiful and loveley landscape of the huge campground, which is created with so much love. It was very quiet and we had the privilege to see a real and traditional handcrafted production maple syrup in an old suger shack right in the neighbourhood of the campground. Absolutely friendly and helpful host. I can highly recommend it.

I had such a great experience at this campsite and would absolutely come back. The grounds are beautiful although a bit muddy since the snow just melted. The views are stunning in every direction, and the sound of water running down the rocks adds such a peaceful, calming vibe to the whole experience. Sleeping in a tent next to running water is such a peaceful, grounding feeling. The gentle sound of the water flowing over the rocks creates this natural white noise that instantly relaxes you. It’s also super dog friendly, which made the trip even better. They had plenty of space to explore and were just as happy as I was. There are picnic tables set up throughout, making it easy to relax and enjoy meals outdoors as long as weather permits. Parking is very convenient and close to the sites, which makes unloading and setting up stress-free. I also really appreciated how clean and practical everything was, garbage bins are easy to find and well-maintained up the road. A huge bonus is that there’s a Metro grocery store just 5 minutes away, so if you forget anything or want to grab fresh food, it’s incredibly convenient. Overall, it’s the perfect mix of nature, comfort, and accessibility. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful and well-equipped camping spot!

We had a wonderful stay at Camp dans Rouge! Rae was a wonderful host, always going above and beyond to making sure we were well settled, comfortable and had a great time there! If you’re planning on going there over the winter, don’t hesitate! The furnace warms up the cabin very well (we were toasty, also there’s a CO2 detector so no risk there), the bed was comfy, and the place equipped with everything one might need while camping and more (kitchen utensils, but also kettle, mini fridge, etc.). We definitely had a great stay and would totally be down to come back another time!
