Our third visit. Das Bunkhouse remains our favorite place. Unfortunate the trails were not cleared it seemed for hiking/treking. They have such beautiful property to explore....We miss Mother Oak.
Minor bout with an ant infestation, but we bought traps and delt with it. Checked all our luggage at home and were were clear.
As usual, kitchen and bathroom area, sleep area are great and very well set up. Water, wood, paper, toilet paper provided. Lanters provided (bring your own AA batteries) Some dishes need washing from previous guests, but overall clean.
We didn't get to use the outdoor showers this year, (so much rain anyway) but they have been greatly renovated and look beautiful, nice shower heads, cedar wood. I wish we could have tried them.
We got to chat with our host Mark about heirloom chickens, new goats in the family, and previous farm critters my daughter remember over the years.
Rain did not wash away our spirits here!

Off-Grid Rustic Bunkhouse
This was a great spot just off the Pontiac Polka bikepacking route. The space was clean and comfortable .
Amanda's Land is a particularly quiet and peaceful cottage. I really like the walking track next to it.

Absolutely STUNNING property! The hostess was so welcoming and always had a smile! Super friendly and an amazing place to stay! Definitely would recommend and is a must-stay!

For those visiting:
- I suggest you make sure to have lanterns, fire starter/kindling.
- Fitted single sheets (own bedding) is required. Mattresses are well covered in boat vinyl so they are clean.
- Keep your meals simple (Stove and saucepan, or cast iron pan, or open fire cooking) and you will honestly need nothing but your own cooler of food. (A lockable cooler is provided, we used it for dry goods)
- Nothing overly exciting here! Just quiet, walking trails, no power, solitude (no immediate swimming but local spots) and the occasional cawing or yawing of goats and chickens.
- A step up from camping, but not quite glamping. A perfect mix.
My daughter and I are already looking forward to year 3.
As someone who grew up spending family summers on a property with no electricity and no running water, this spot brings back wonderful memories and a opportunities to connect with nature and the people you are with in a special way - preparing and enjoying meals together, sitting around the campfire, hiking and engaging in games that aren’t screen based, and just taking in the scenery and energy of the land. We also enjoyed visiting the farm animals, and distant conversations with the goats.
Oh - and I can’t forget to mention the Skies of Ladysmith! The vast, unobstructed sky is breathtaking and is excellent for cloud and stargazing.
Amanda and Mark have set up a cozy spot with personality, that is comfortable and well equipped. It’s amazing how many people can comfortably sleep in the bunkie!
The outdoor kitchen has an overhang to protect from the elements which is really convenient and the kitchen has most of what you need to prepare meals.
I’ll definitely be back.

We really enjoyed the open field camping experience in our square drop trailer. Lots of room to set up the trailer and bug tent. We would recommend this hassle free camping experience. Host was great and super helpful with firewood etc.

Off-Grid Rustic Bunkhouse
This is a beautiful, picturesque site. The bunkhouse is very cool, decorated in a cozy, lovely way. The kitchen and fire pit and composting toilet work great and are very functional.
This is a great place to refresh and relax in the nature. When we stayed there on 31st July the temperature was good enough to lie outside bunkhouse and with zero artificial lighting we had a great stargazing experience. If you stay here don't miss to swim in the Thorne Lake which is 15 min drive from here. Amanda was very nice and welcoming host. This place was exactly as mentioned in the description. We really had a memorable weekend here.
We had our choice of where we wanted to park our little trailer, so chose a spot in the field where we had a clear view of the gorgeous full moon. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. It’s a lovely farm in the middle of a lovely area.
The hosts are very knowledgable and conscious care-takers of the land. We learned a lot about farming and sustainable living, and were also pleased to discover the different kinds of spiritual retreats they host. Amanda thoughtfully involved our ten-year-old in feeding the pigs and holding baby chicks! We also saw lots of wildlife in just a couple days — blue jays, garter snakes, and frogs.
It takes a bit of wandering around the property to really get your bearings, but once you do, you’ll find the hand-painted signs and hidden trails quite charming. The communal fire pit is nice and big, with plenty of seating and fire wood available, all in a lovely secluded clearing.
The numbered campsites in the woods were pretty small (just big enough for a tent, no picnic tables) and not very well cleared. However, there was plenty of flat open field space where we could comfortably set up our car and a couple tents in the shade.
Amanda was very helpful and responsive via text. The kind, conscious vibes of her place are a nourishing, restful change from city life. We would definitely stay with her again!
Cozy getaway.
Other than mixing bowls, cereal bowls, and a large cook pot, the kitchen really does have everything!
Lakes and swim spots are a short drive away.
It really is a place to do nothing. Just be.
Sawdust compost toilet worked amazing!
Bring a camp pad for extra layering to the bed as they are fine for kids but was not for me.
Hosts were very nice and respected our solitude.
My daughter can't wait to go back for another getaway..

Amanda is friendly, helpful with suggestions, and responsive, and camping on her farm was an awesome alternative to camping at sold-out provincial campgrounds. There were tons of native plants and butterflies around, a forest, sheltered areas for tents (though we had the option to camp outside the designated sites, too), great cell service (I'm with Fido), farm animals, a swimming area nearby, and **running water for showering or washing up**!!! We didn't have to use a Tupperware container for cleaning dishes and I'm so thankful for that. Awesome. I would come here again! Thank you, Amanda!
Lots of space and privacy. Sites are on the small side. Hosts are friendly and helpful. Amenities area can be damp so bring proper footwear. Trails through the forest are wonderful. Mother Oak is spectacular. Spotty cell service. An ideal place for peace and to find clarity.
This bunkie is absolutely amazing. There are so many extras. Like a fully functional outdoor kitchen. With propane stove, dishes and an outdoor sink. There is also a compost toilet and outdoor shower.
Then there is ethe exquisite property with beautiful view of the sunset, amazing calming vibe and trails.
The hosts are absolutely the best they were so helpful. They went above and beyond to make sure that our stay was amazing. We will definitely be staying at this bunkie again.
