I built this cabin to be a romantic, cozy off-grid getaway for humans , but if most of our guests are being honest, the dogs are the ones having the best time. There’s a cozy queen bed with fresh linens and a down duvet. A covered deck with handcrafted rocking chairs for sunset views. A private fire area below for campfires and stargazing. LED lighting, a Bluetooth speaker, a Jackery battery bank, clean well water, lanterns, an outdoor shower, and a clean outhouse. I’ll even haul your gear in by ATV so you can settle in without the hassle. And after all that work, most guests still seem to agree on the real highlight: Watching their dogs absolutely lose their minds with happiness. More than anything, this place has become a favourite for people who want to give their dogs the kind of freedom they rarely get anywhere else. Most of our guests tell us over and over, that their favourite part is watching their best friends make their own decisions, run the trails, sniff everything, chase chipmunks, explore the forest, and basically have the time of their lives. Of course, the humans tend to enjoy themselves too. The cabin sits on a west-facing cliff on our private 164-acre property. Once you arrive, you’ll have the feeling of having the whole place to yourselves. The trails, the forest, the quiet, the sunsets, it all feels wonderfully removed from the usual noise. In summer, the forest is lush, green, and full of life. The days are warm, the trails are shaded, and evenings at the cliff often bring a breeze and a beautiful sunset. For dogs, there’s endless space to explore. For people, it’s a chance to unplug, slow down, and enjoy a kind of peace that’s getting harder to find. You’ll have access to 10 km of private trails through forest, ridgelines, and lakeshore. Wildlife is plentiful, and depending on the season, you may spot deer, foxes, loons, and maybe even a family of bald eagles! There’s no electricity or running water, but that’s part of the magic. This is real off-grid comfort: simple, peaceful, and thoughtfully set up so you can enjoy nature without giving up a good night’s sleep. For more hiking adventures, step outside and you're right on the Trans Canada Trail. One of our favorite spots is the private lake at the back of the property. It's a bit of a hike to reach it, but that's what makes it special. Not many people get to swim in their own private lake! When you're ready for more water adventures, we're just 10 minutes from the Gatineau River. We can rent you canoes and drop them at the boat launch (5km from the cabin). The river above Paugan Dam is calm with no current—perfect for exploring islands, finding swimming spots, or paddling all the way to Lac St. Marie. Back at the cabin, you'll enjoy your private campfire area under the stars. You'll find hammocks hung in just the right spots, and an outdoor kitchen with a stove top and camp oven for cooking. Don't worry about carrying your gear—it's a short 3-minute hike from the road, but we'll transport everything for you by ATV. We provide jugs of what we think is the best-tasting well water in the world. And despite feeling like you're miles from civilization, cell reception is excellent (you can even see the lights from the Low cell tower at night). Wakefield village is just 20 minutes away for supplies and restaurants, but you're secluded enough that if you choose, you won't see another soul during your entire stay. This is rustic living at its best—no TV or fridge, just you, the forest, stunning views, and simple comforts. The perfect place to unplug, decompress and unwind. Come find your quiet with us.

This is where dog heaven and human heaven meet. Beautiful setting, simple set up in the cabin, stunning forest and views, wonderful area to explore and lovely helpful hosts. I love a place where a few damp dogs aren't a problem AT ALL!

A perfect stay

This was our first Hipcamper experience, and I honestly don’t think it could have been any better. Mike was an incredible host from start to finish. He made sure we had everything we needed, answered every question quickly, and genuinely cared that we had a great stay. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in the experience he creates. The property itself is absolutely beautiful. The land is incredibly well maintained, peaceful, and feels like a little hidden paradise. The cabin was spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully cared for. Everything was exactly as described, if not better. The hiking trails were another highlight. They’re well marked, easy to follow, and take you through some stunning scenery. The hike to the private lake was especially memorable. Arriving there felt like discovering a secret little oasis—quiet, idyllic, and completely worth the walk. If you’re considering staying here, don’t hesitate. This was an absolutely perfect first Hipcamp experience, and it’s set the bar incredibly high. We’ll definitely be back.

This cabin is such a restful retreat in the middle of the forest, with a big beautiful hiking trail right on the property. It’s fully secluded for dogs to run freely, yet Mike and Monique live right nearby for anything you need during your stay. The cabin is equipped with all the essentials, the bed is comfy and Mike is highly responsive to any needs, while also respecting your privacy. I can’t wait to return!

A wonderful little spot! The cabin overlooking the cliff makes you feel like you’re above the trees, and the sunsets are to die for. Everything we could need was provided, which made for the most relaxing weekend ever. Of course, our dogs had the most amazing time, running free in the forest while we walked along the marked trails. It felt both private and homey, the perfect combination for a getaway from the city. Big thank you to Mike for the clear instructions and helpful attitude; we didn’t need anything but I wouldn’t have hesitated to ask!

An absolutely perfect winter cabin retreat. Cozy, spotless, and thoughtfully equipped. It was a great place to unplug, relax, and enjoy the winter season. We loved being able to let our dog roam safely off-leash and enjoy the freedom. Mike gave us such a warm welcome that immediately made us feel at home. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and falling asleep while gazing at the stars through the trees was a magical touch. The outdoor kitchen was one of our favourite features. We hope to return.

A breath of fresh air

We loved everything about our stay in the Cliffside Cabin and will definitely return. The cabin is cozy and inviting and kept us snug and warm despite the frigid -30 degree temps outside. The bed is heavenly; so comfortable for sleeping, and also surrounded by windows for enjoying the stunning views and sunset. The cabin strikes the perfect balance of rustic and convenience, so you get the charm and atmosphere of being off grid, but the comfort and ease of having lights easily accessible and sleeping through the night without having to stoke a fire to stay warm. The property is incredible. It’s totally private and has tons of beautiful wooded trails to explore. We snowshoed for hours and enjoyed the variety of trail types, from machine set to human set to making our very own in the deep snow! We were there during a nighttime snowshoe race so got to see all the headlamps moving very quickly through the forest from the comfort of the cabin after our own snowshoe adventure. Our dog, who is reactive and barky in the city, was able to be off leash and lived his best life from arrival to departure. He tired himself out exploring and put himself to bed early! Last but definitely not least, Mike was an exceptional host. He is responsive and thoughtful, offering to reschedule when I asked about the cold, and even offering to loan us his dog’s jacket when I said I might buy one. He is interesting and so easy to talk to, and we left his presence feeling uplifted. Highly recommend!

The cabin is beautifully built and well-equipped. Mike's communication is excellent, he went out of his way to accommodate us, and he is a pleasure to chat to. The hiking trails are well-marked and the walk to the lake is beautiful, even in the late fall with barely any leaves left on the trees. We spent a peaceful and restorative two nights, and look forward to doing so again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mike's cabin. It has beautiful backdrop of rolling hills as far as you can see. Well equipped deck for cooking your own meal and enjoy it surrounded by nature. Cabin is warm and comfy, bed is great and rocking chairs on the patio are great for relaxing.

We had an absolutely lovely, relaxing time at Mike's cabin this weekend. The cabin is the perfect blend of rustic and cozy, with many thoughtful little amenities that made us feel at home right away and eliminated the stress of packing compared to traditional tent camping. We were lucky enough to book with fall colours in full force and were treated to stunning sunset views both nights. With enough hiking trails and wilderness to explore to your heart's content, there was plenty of opportunity to mix in some adventure. We are eagerly looking forward to coming back soon and experiencing what winter at the cabin has to offer!

My partner and I are so refreshed after our stay at the wicked awesome Cliffside Cabin. The place was breathtaking and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Secluded in the treetops with nature, a super comfy bed, warm breezy quarters, hammocks, solitude, badminton, and all the little thoughtful things you could need for a comfortable, stress-free stay - it was a dream. It's the thoughtful details and great intro to the cabin that put us at ease. Mike was patient, showed us how to use the stoves, gave great instructions so we easily found our way. An awesome place and awesome host! We loved it here & will be back :)

We loved our mini getaway at Mike’s secluded little cabin! We had so much fun as a family, the spot was beautiful. It was well maintained but still felt like you were in the woods, which you truly are! The view from the cabin is so pretty, you can watch the sunset over the hills from the porch or the bed. All the amenities we needed were available and then some. Everything was clean and cozy. We felt very much at home. Mike is an excellent host and we would definitely book again! Bonus points that our dog got to have fun too!

Our stay was fantastic! The perfect mix of rustic private comforts with all the amenities. We loved being able to have a private hike to the little lake. The place was peaceful and the views were great. Mike was super welcoming and friendly and did a great job making his property into a special getaway. Having a fire under the stars was lovely too with firewood and water to put it out when we were done. We would definitely recommend this to others who enjoy nature!

Just book it, you won't regret it!

I just felt like getting out of the city for a bit and made a last-minute decision to visit the Cliffside Cabin. As a runner, I had a lot of fun on the 10km of trails that wind through the place Mike calls “The Ark”. The trails are really well maintained. Mike told me he leaf blows the entire distance at least once a month! I think I covered them all during my stay… but admittedly, my sense of direction isn’t the best and I was a bit “lost” on a couple occasions. Apparently Mike hosts a trail and snowshoe race series there called the Mad Trapper. So, I think I’ll try and book here again one weekend when he has a race going on. Another cool thing though is how perfect the surrounding gravel roads are for cycling. From my stealthy perch on the cliffside deck (which has incredible views, by the way), I spied maybe 2-3 cars passing during the day, but must have counted at least two dozen gravel cyclists. Next time, the bike is going on the rack as well. After the run, it was great to relax in the hammock with a book and sip a beer on the deck in a super comfy Costa Rican rocking chair. The cabin itself had everything I needed. It had a surprisingly comfortable bed that gave me one of the best nights of sleep I've had in ages. The complete quiet and fresh air just knocks you out in the best way. I didn’t have much cooking to do, but the “kitchen” had everything I needed. I grilled up some burgers on his tabletop “rocket-stove” grill, and scarfed em down. THE BEST!
