The vibe at Treehouse Magic Grove
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
I don’t typically use the word “magical,” but there’s no better word to describe this property. It’s only an hour drive from downtown San Francisco (the latter of which is like touring through Microsoft’s “Bliss” desktop), yet it feels completely remote. This bright treehouse is nestled in a grove of towering eucalyptus trees that sway and creak all night (though the treehouse stays put.) There are two decks, both of which provide peeks of roaming cattle and rolling hills. There’s a cute lil toilet in the treehouse, as well as tons of games, books, battery-powered lights, and interesting trinkets. Our favorites: the crystal glasses and Spirit Animals guide. If it’s warm out, crack a window, and you’ll hear the soothing creak of the gigantic tree you’re sleeping in as well as a symphony of tree frogs and crickets. In the communal barn—where the Grateful Dead used to hang out(!!!)—you’ll find another toilet, plus a shower, as well as a charging station for your gadgets. In the morning, Shelly and Bill offer delicious, fairy-like breakfast options in their kitchen. But before you chow down you MUST hike the hilltop at Helen Putnam Regional Park for sunrise—it’s only a 2-minute drive down the road and will provide a serious massage for your eyeballs.
If you're looking to reset your body and mind, Treehouse Magic Grove is a perfect weeknight micro-adventure from San Francisco. Give it a try, and return to the city the next day refreshed, relaxed and ready for anything.
I stayed at Treehouse Magic Grove with Madison, and it was truly magical. We left on a Thursday afternoon, and it took about an hour to arrive. Fires are not allowed at all - even a contained flame like a Jetboil or camp stove - so make sure to come prepared with non-cook meal options (or swing by the Petaluma Creamery on the way and grab wine/cheese/crackers).
Bring a blanket to have a picnic on the lawn, and make sure to stop by Helen Putnam Regional Park for a sunrise hike. The Treehouse doesn't have cell service at all which really forces you to enjoy all of the sights, smells, and sounds of the camp and truly unplug. BUT if you need a charge to tell your mom you arrived fine, you can get a brief moment of connection to the outside world with wifi in the barn.
Go camp and write your own story about this wonderful place to rest! ✨
I had an absolutely incredible time staying in this Treehouse! Throughout my childhood I always (well, still) dreamed of having a Treehouse and this fulfilled those dreams. I loved the thoughtfully curated decorations (art supplies, fairy tales, etc.) that also brought me back to being a kid. Bill and Michelle were very gracious and hosted us for breakfast in the morning as well.
My boyfriend and I have always wanted to stay in a treehouse, and this one definitely surpassed our expectations. It was truly a magical experience! Bill and Michelle are amazing hosts, giving us a full tour when we first arrived and even providing breakfast (get the French toast – it’s amazing!!) They’re also full of recommendations for things to do/eat/see in the area.
The treehouse itself is full of things to do – from reading the guest books to learning about your spirit animals and how to make shadow puppets. The room was larger than expected, and has a small toilet (which certainly came in handy). The deck outside is also lovely to sit on and admire the view of the horses and turkeys next door. One of the turkeys even flew up into our tree!
We were looking for a relaxing weekend, away from SF, and we found it. Waking up to sounds of the birds, frogs and cows was very different than cars and buses! We would definitely recommend this place to anyone who’s up for spending some time in the trees.
As others have said, this place is pure magic. Not only the treehouse, but the property and Bill and Michelle. From the detailed decorations of the treehouse, to the amazing breakfast, and surrounding, I thought I was in a fairy tale. If I could, I would come back every month. The treehouse bed is incredibly comfortable and you will get the best sleep of your life. Bill was incredible at keeping in touch and showing you around the property/treehouse when you first arrived. At this point, I don't have many words to describe my stay (besides beyond magical) and I would give it a 15 out of 10. Amazing place and hosts!
This treehouse is a truly magical place and something that you just have to experience to truly appreciate. Then after a magical night in this treehouse you will be greeted the next morning in the kitchen by some of the nicest people I have ever met with a delicious home made breakfast.
