Past trips
Site 1 - Orchard Nest
in Shared Abundance Organic Farm, CaliforniaThis occasional camp out under the kiwi trees is something I always keep in my back pocket when traveling through. Itâs quiet no cell service for AT&T. A lovely distraction- free sleep under the stars. Ruthanne shared some delicious citrus for my sendoff. Thank you Ruthanne!
CapeEscape
in CapeEscape, OregonSite 2 - Orchard Nest
in Shared Abundance Organic Farm, CaliforniaI booked last minute and Ruthanne was understanding and flexible.
Loved sleeping under the stars in my sleeping bag in the kiwi orchard. Definitely bring a good headlamp if youâre coming in late to see as thereâs no street lights (bliss!)
Next time I want to stay a couple nights to see more of the farm as it piqued my interest.
Thank you for a lovely stay, Ruthanne!
Coastal Ridge Cabin
in Coastal Ridge Cabin, CaliforniaAt a time when everything was up in the air with the pandemic, this was a quiet place to move freely outdoors and be connected to nature. I stayed here with my two kids from inner city Portland. We walked trails, made fire in the wood stove, drove a short distance to tide pools to explore, and borrowed the surfboards.
The main bed is super soft. Iâm a fan.
We used the outdoor shower primarilyâwhat a treat when the night sky was clear!
Itâs a unique place for sure. Bon is professional and kindhearted with his interaction.
To note: there are creatures :) we didnât mind this. Little to no AT&T service. We would travel into Mendocino to get groceries and catch up on work emails.
#4 - Big Meadow, Power & Water
in Jug Handle Creek Farm, CaliforniaSite 2 - River Nymph Rendezvous
in Theilen Produce Gardens, NebraskaSuch a unique experience for the Midwest! Im so glad I bypassed the crowded, generic RV parks in the area and stayed here overnight instead.
I have been dry camping with my vintage airstream from California to Iowa and Kristi was very accommodating to my last minute reservation (two hours prior to arrival). She is warm, welcoming, and passionate about her niche organic produce farm.
On arrival, she directed our airstream in her driveway next to the greenhouses and we immediately were swept away on a farm tour as the sun dipped down for the day. Chickens, goats, sheep, ducks, and the most playful and kid-friendly Great Pyrenees pup all live on the farm.
There was a composting toilet and a regular toilet available and an outdoor shower warmed by solar in the hose. The mosquitoes were out on our evening, so be prepared with bug repellent should you camp. My kids chased lightening bugs and picked mulberries with Kristi and loved touring the farm the next morning on her golf cart!
Overall an absolutely lovely experience and I will look forward to a return visit. Thank you Thielen Farms!
