Site 1 - Dark Ridge Hide Out/RV Full Hook Up
in Dark Ridge Hide Out (Adults Only), North CarolinaGreat getaway in the mountains
I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away from it all and enjoy some time in the mountains. Curtis has a great set up on his property with both tent and RV camping. We were in RV site one and it was a great set up right by the creek. The site is set up as a pull in site for a motor home, but we had no problem getting our 42â fifth wheel pulled in, detached from the truck, and set up.
Curtis is a great host! He is around the property and willing to answer any questions you may have. He met us when we arrived and gave us a run down of the area including areas to hike and where the best sunset is.
One warning when visiting is that the area is very mountainous and you need to really pay attention to the route you take. If you come through Boone on 321 make sure your GPS does not take you up Russell Norris RD. Make sure you stick to Buckeye Rd. Buckeye is still challenging with a large 5th wheel, but Russell Norris is nearly impossible. I still donât know how we made it through there.
We will definitely return to Curtisâs place in the future.
Past trip
in Remote Mountain Camping Platform, North CarolinaThis is a great spot and I would highly recommend it to anyone. It is the perfect combination of getting away into the middle of the woods and having some of the the amenities of a campground. The camping platforms are great for setting up your tent on one and setting up chairs and a table on the other with an amazing view of the mountains. I was a little nervous about setting up our tent on the deck but it was easy and there are a ton screws under the deck to use as tie off points. Just make sure you tent is less than 8â in at least one direction so you are not hanging off. The privy was clean and a great feature to have while camping with 3 kids. It was close to the tent platform but far enough that you didnât see it. Walking to it was not a problem after dark and there are little reflectors on the trees marking the path to and from.
The ride up the gravel road is a little rough and was longer than I expected so we were wondering a couple of time if we passed it but we had not. When we got to it it was easily recognizable and we knew we were there. The road while a little rough and narrow in spots is no problem to get up, but I would definitely not do it in a car, truck or SUV is the way to go.
We will definitely be back to this location.

Past trip
in Catawba Falls Pitchin Post, North CarolinaGreat riverside camping
Matthew S.recommends this listing.
(Dispersed site)
This is a great campsite right down next to a river. Kimberly has it set up great with a seating area and fire pit, hammock, horse shoes, some market lights, etc. It was a little chilly for our stay but my kids still went in the river and then warmed up next to the fire. The campsite is far enough from the house that you feel like your in your own little world. I would definitely recommend this location, my kids are already asking if we can go back.
Matthew hasn't gone on any trips yet.

Ceremonial Tipi
in Blue Ridge Ranch, North CarolinaThis place was great! The tipi we stayed in was perfect and had everything we needed. The location right on a fishing pond was perfect for my boys. The Ranch overall is in a great location to get away from it all and you can tell the owners are working hard to make it a real outdoors destination. They had a large bonfire on Saturday night while we were there and it was great to meet other campers and talk with the owners of the ranch. We will definitely be back.

VISTA360 Site 1
in CreekStone in Candler, NC, North CarolinaExcellent get away location!
Great location! I would highly recommend it. We stayed for just two nights to get in some apple picking over the weekend and it was great. The location is very close to Asheville yet away from everything. The mountain sunset views were amazing and watching the sun come up over the hills was just as nice. We saw a handful of hot air balloon floating by in the distance one morning. The site has everything you would expect from a commercial campground but without the crowds. We have a 42â 5th wheel and had no problem getting set up or turning around to leave. We also got a bundle of wood for a campfire in the fire pit and let me tell you it was definitely worth it. It wasnât just a bundle of wood. It was a fully stocked fire pit stacked with wood and kindling ready to just light and enjoy. There were even a few extra logs on the side too. We will definitely be back again.
