This place really is a gem. The campsites on John’s property are more secluded than NPS sites, and the other reviews are right, that is the cleanest looking (and smelling) privy I’ve ever seen. There was potable water, a tripod for campfire cooking, tons of firewood, and a little sink for hand washing. John was also extremely welcoming and friendly. Can’t wait to come back!

My boyfriend, dog and I stayed at site #2 and it was wonderful. The site was massive and right next to a creek, with multiple fire rings and a charcoal grill. We brought a cast iron skillet and cooked over the grate provided on one of the fire rings. Checking in at the visitors center was a breeze and the eggs were such a treat! There is potable water at a well at the visitors center, but we mostly used backpacking filters from the creek because the site was a little ways away from the visitors center. The only downside was the site’s proximity to the road. Otherwise, hearing the creek and owls all night was just the relaxing getaway we needed :)

Julie was super friendly and gave us good directions. Check in and out was a breeze.
