We had an amazing time at Babbling Brook! The land is really beautiful, we got two tents on the spot, and the sites are really well designed. There is an amazing little lake and a communal fire pit, as well as one at each spot. The water spigot and outhouse were great, too. The drive to old rag in the morning was super easy. Would stay there again!

Forest Seclusion was a perfect spot for us. Our host was very kind and met us on arrival to show us around and to our walk-in site. Plenty of fallen wood, but also cut wood available for $5. Access to outhouse, wash area, and water.

Really nice peaceful spot. I loved waking up to wood thrush, ovenbird, and other forest residents singing. The firewood that you can purchase on-site is reasonably priced, well-seasoned, and burns well. The outhouse does not smell AT ALL. Bo was friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. He has obviously put a lot of work into making this an inviting place for tent campers, in an area that really needs it!
My only complaint would be the motion-sensitive lights that go on as you walk through the property at night (e.g., to go to the outhouse, or perhaps to look for owls). For me, these detract from the nature experience. I've got a flashlight and don't need or want that extra light. Others may perceive those lights as a bonus though. In any case, we would definitely stay again. We were very happy with our stay.

Comfortable camp sites on a charming property. Friendly and thoughtful hosts. Great location for hiking trail heads on the east side of Shenandoah and multiple vineyards. Will stay again.

This was a very cool campsite in a really great location. John was very nice and showed me around when I first got there. The firewood was very cheap and more than enough for the entire night. Also the picnic table and cooking grate for the fire were awesome to have. I’ll definitely be coming back again!

This was a great location! John, the host, was very friendly, quick to respond and had very well maintained sites. The porta john on site was clean and was a nice addition to traditional camp site. My friends stayed at the Secluded Forrest site which was about a 3 minute walk from the Pond Peninsula site. A great location if you wanted to rent a few sites. We hiked Old Rad while we were there and it was about a 25 minute drive; which was perfect. I would definitely stay here again.

This place really is a gem. The campsites on John’s property are more secluded than NPS sites, and the other reviews are right, that is the cleanest looking (and smelling) privy I’ve ever seen. There was potable water, a tripod for campfire cooking, tons of firewood, and a little sink for hand washing. John was also extremely welcoming and friendly. Can’t wait to come back!

What a beautiful hidden treasure! This was our first time booking using hipcamp and John made the process easy and seamless. We had the whole area to ourselves so it was very peaceful. John was there for anything we needed and was kind enough to lend us some playing cards! We will definitely be back.

John’s place was great! It was quiet and each camp site was secluded from the others so we had privacy.The bathroom was really clean, they provided us with firewood (for a really reasonable price!), and he and his wife were super responsive during our stay. The small cemetery was well kept and the ghosts didn’t bother us at night! The white oak canyon hike at Shenandoah was only half an hour away, and the park entrance itself was an hour away. We would definitely stay there again!

Babbling Brook
Babbling Brook was the perfect quick weekend getaway for us. John's property is peaceful and beautiful. The set up John has created is very welcoming and the outhouse is by far the nicest I have ever used. We also really appreciated the trails we were able to take our older dog on around the property. In the morning, we were able to chat with John and his wife and they could not have been nicer. We will definitely be coming back for another stay!

It is a amazing property we had our section to ourselves and it was really beautiful. It also houses one of the most cleanest out houses I have ever been to. I definitely plan on coming back!

The campsite was nice with good facilities, and John was a good host. HOWEVER, late in the evening, as our campfire was winding down, a friend of John’s who had been visiting at his house and was VERY drunk decided to come over and join our campfire. His presence felt threatening and he made our group very uncomfortable.

This campsite exceeded our expectations! It’s a beautiful spot and private…far enough away from the other campsite and the main house. It’s well laid out with comfortable ground and a nice fire pit. There’s also a well stocked fish pond with some paddle boats. There’s also a very clean (and surprisingly nice smelling) toilet with an outdoor sink. Only 20 minutes from old rag, but I’m hesitant to say that because then this place will be booked up all the time! 🤫

Pondside pull down
The hosts were helpful and friendly. The site is beautiful and spacious. We loved the pond feature with the paddle boats and fish. If you’re looking fir a serene getaway, then check this out.

We loved our stay at Rest In Peace! This campground is in an ideal location with Shenandoah hiking nearby. John was extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure the campsite was nicely set up. Don’t fear the nearby graveyard - it’s an added cool historic site tucked away from the campsite. Thank you John for the awesome place!

Great stay right near Shenandoah. John was very welcoming and his place is very nice with 3 campsites and and nice outhouse. Even though it rained for most of the night, we had a great time feeding the fish in the pond and hanging out at the winery/brewery nearby. Definitely recommend!

This spot was perfect! Secluded and quiet. Quick drive to White Oak Canyon for a dip in the falls and beautiful drive to Skyline Drive. There was a fire pit, a picnic table, and a little out house. We met John in the morning and he was very friendly. They clearly enjoy hosting people on their beautiful property!
