in Shangri-La, CaliforniaSite 1 - Mt. Shasta 360
in Mt. Shasta 360, CaliforniaFinding the campsite was quite the adventure! We plugged in the coordinates to google maps only to find that you could not reach the destination from the road google Directs you down. After driving around for 1.5 hours trying to find it and retracing our steps we finally found the site. The coordinates are correct, but google tells you to veer left at the last intersection when you should actually keep going straight. If you see an old overturned safari type jeep you are on the wrong road. Go back to the last intersection and go the opposite direction and you should find it no problem! (Signal is spotty out there so downloading an offline map of the area is a good idea.)
The site was amazing when we did finally find it! Got there in time to relax and watch the sunset with some vino. The views after dark were just as spectacular! There some great stargazing from the site! Even though there was some light pollution from the highways and houses in the distance I was still able to capture some nice photos of the Milky Way over Mt. Shasta. If you enjoy stargazing and the possibility of seeing out of this world activity over the mountain then then donât call it an early night!
In the morning we set up the kitchen and cooked up a delicious breakfast while taking in some more of the views before leaving.
We really enjoyed not having anyone around and having this place to ourselves. Was just the getaway we needed! Would definitely stay there again!
(Iâd also recommend a higher clearance 4WD or AWD vehicle. The roads are dirt & bumpy and thereâs tall sage brush in the middle of the road in places. They were scraping the underside of my Crosstrek. A regular car might not fare so well out there...)

6 plus mile hike in. The hill on the way out is tough! Great for groups!
