Jason is a fantastic, communicative and active host. His property is really, really beautiful, and despite the site being about 250 yards beyond his house, it still felt private and secluded. We could barely see Jason’s house and there was no other sign of civilization in site. The outhouse is clean and does have a great view, and the shack is basic but does the trick. If you wanted to pitch a tent, there isn’t quite a good flat spot for it, but I know Jason is just getting started as a Host and is keen to make it a wonderful site.

Would definitely recommend if you want to sit around a campfire, fall asleep under a blanket of stars and wake up to a clear crisp morning :)

Muirs Muse is a wonderful little retreat in the woods. It was exactly what I needed for a quiet weekend to watch the stars and recharge the battery.

Stay here. And return over and over again because this place is special, peaceful, and truly private. Robert is a wonderful host, a real steward of the land, who will offer up a walking tour of the trees and plants around the campsites. A retired teacher and active storyteller, he'll share his life and tales, and educate you on the native and invasive plants to more closely connect you with the land and bring you into his local community of people who give a d@mn. Take the walk. Listen to the stories. Join the community. At Yuba Canyon you can really feel like you're a part of something bigger than you.

On a practical level, the campsites and land are great for camping and exploring. We stayed in site 4 which was really big and could have accommodated a couple other tents. There are picnic tables at each site and amazing stars out every night. The outhouse is clean and stocked with toilet paper. Be sure to bring your own water, and bug spray!

The yurt was absolutely perfect for our fall weekend getaway. When we weren't at the river fly fishing or in Nevada City poking around the historic sites, bars and shops, we found solace in the yurt playing board games and Yahtzee, cooking meals in the full kitchen which is stocked with every utensil, pot or pan you need, and enjoying the outdoor tub, which yes does have hot water and yes, is as amazing as it looks! The instructions to find the place were spot on, and the instructions for the heating system and wood burning stove are easily located inside. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to all our friends.

I'm a little hesitant to write this review because this place is a gem, and it's already hard enough to get a spot at Salmon Creek Ranch! When you drive in you are greeted by a herd of bleating goats running beside your car welcoming you. There are dogs and ducks and cows, and you feel like you've come upon a true blue working farm, which you have, but while you can buy duck eggs and meat and pet goats, don't expect your camping experience to feel like you're on a farm. To get to the camps, you drive past the farm, down a long, bumpy dirt road lined with redwoods, and come out to an amazing meadow. There's plenty of sunlight and space in the meadow, but the campsites themselves are protected from wind and sun in the redwood grove so you won't hear the wind all night or get baked out of your tent in the morning. This camp is absolutely magical, quiet, peaceful and private. It's a must camp. Hopefully you're lucky enough to get a spot!
