Ken and Joan were extremely hospitable (they even jumped my car!!); they frequently checked in over my stay to make sure I had what I needed. Their directions were precise and easy to follow; I had a lovely stay.

It's a nice weekend getaway if you're in St. Louis. It's the ideal set up if you have four couples/families looking for a secluded spot to yourselves with running room. Otherwise, the sites are as close together as a typical campground, and there is a possibility of being at the mercy of your neighbors in terms of peace (I personally had to listen to a couple next to me getting enthusiastically frisky, but, while loud, I've heard songs that lasted longer than those shenanigans). The host Darrell is about as cool/chill as it gets, and I recommend the vineyard tour.

I had a really lovely night. Beth is a very kind and gracious host. If you're looking for your own space to just be in solitude for a bit, I'd recommend this place hands down. The compostable toilet at was more private and better smelling than any porta-potty I'd used all weekend long. The woodland creatures are in excess, but they leave you alone (you end up feeling like Snow White by the end of the night just by the presence of so much wildlife). I recommend bringing ear plugs to muffle the sounds of all of the squirrels and chipmunks scampering around at night. Bring your Sibley guide (no service) and take a seat at the pond in the evening to watch some red wing black birds, owls, and barn swallows skim the water for a drink. There were plenty of hammock-worthy trees among the campsite to curl up with a book. I had a lovely stay.

It's got everything you need. I stayed at site #4 which was optimal for star-gazing. It's a great affordable alternative to the official camp grounds in the park which are often egregiously over-crowded. Instant booking, zero-hassle, affordable, and not very hard to find (bring a satellite gps). It's private but not so private enough to get spooked when you're by yourself in the middle of nowhere, and it's VERY close to Ash Cave, Conkle Nature Preserve, Cantwell Cliffs, etc. The wifi was SUPER handy when I needed to look up directions or google hikes. I felt very safe as a female camper on my first solo trip, and the instant booking and comprehensible directions to my camp site helped eased my anxiety about finding my place. If you have social anxiety or you'd like to respectfully get in and get out without having to do a traditional orientation/meet-greet that is common with staying on other private properties, on HipCamp, this is your spot.
