Site 3 - Private Paradise on Rivers Bend
in Private Paradise on Rivers Bend, VirginiaAmazing shenandoah escape
We had a great time here at site 3! We originally booked for only 1 night but it took just 2 hours of us being there to know we NEEDED another night here! When we arrived it was POURING rain, which we knew it would because we had kept a close eye on the forecast. Because it'd be wet, we opted to bring a couple bundles of dry firewood - just in case his had gotten wet.... BUT Graham brought us dry wood soon after we arrived!! This host really does think of it all, and shows he really cares! Our site had a fire pit, table, and stack of wood that was covered by a tarp. The only thing that really sucked about this site was the MUD!! After the rain, it was suuuppppeeeerrr muddy. Our truck even began to slide in it as we tried to leave- we had to put it in 4WD or we would've been stuck. Another thing that wasn't so great about the site is that there's no level spot. Everywhere we tried to set our tent up at, was at a slant. Not a big deal, but it'd be nice to have a level spot to pitch a tent. We spent all day on the second day down at the river. Our 2 dogs loved swimming around and we were about to catch a ton of fish! We walked the property and we noticed this was old corn fields! How cool. You can finds tons of corn cobs all around. We saw a deer pass by our campsite and we saw SO MANY Cardinals during our stay. My favorite thing about Grahams land was how absolutely private it was. It was like we were in our own little mountain paradise. It was hard to leave! Thanks Graham!!
Site 6 - Starlight Hills Campground
in Starlight Hills, North CarolinaAn amazing experience!
I am completely blown away by our stay at Starlight Hills Campground. It was everything and more! The host, William was hands down one of the best camp hosts I've ever met. He was super friendly and loved our pups even though our Husky is a jumper! Even with every site full one night, privacy was maintained throughout our stay! William really puts thought into what he does- this campground has so much potential (that he's already working on- like even more sites!) that I just can't wait to come back and see what's new! My one and only complaint is about other campers. While I was scavenging for wood for our fire, I came across tons of wads of toilet paper... and that's just absolutely unacceptable. You should always leave your site *better* than when you got there. NEVER leave trash behind! That's just pure laziness and it takes advantage of Williams kindness to even let you stay on his land! Be better! Do better! During our 3 night stay I hit the showers one morning and was pleasantly surprised that it *is* heated water! It is set to a "set" temperature but it was perfect- even on a crisp fall morning! The road up is really cool. We have a 2WD Jeep Patriot and it handled like a champ. Im a 4x4 enthusiast and I just loved the "off road" feel of climbing up the mountain! We left every day to go and explore the surrounding area. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about a hour drive. Mt Mitchell State Park about a hour and 1/2ish. Chimney Rock State Park/Bat Cave NC also about a hour drive. Asheville is a little further out but it's doable! Each site is spacious and thoughtfully laid out. There's even a light above every sign to help you see at night! The common area has the *best* view. Every hour you get to hear the church bells play from a church down the road. At night it's so peaceful! You can see almost every star in the sky, absolutely breathtaking. We really enjoyed our stay here. William... you are a 5 star host with a 5 star property- I am so thankful to have stayed on your land and I certainly plan on returning!

The amphitheater is where the BEST VIEW of the sunset is at!
