My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. This did not last long :) but the saplings my dad planted by hand are still here & maybe 70' tall! I live on the land where there is 3 acers and some woods to burn fire also a nice big swimming pool and goats and chickens to pet and feed. A small, shed cottage turned into a room with a full-sized bed and mini fridge with a microwave, toaster, and coffee machine, a table with chairs to eat at. Ac for the summer and a heater for the cooler days. I am still adding on and bringing new things to the cottage. I will have complimentary drinks and snacks on your arrival. Portions of the historic Three Chopt Trail, a Native American trail, run through a large portion of the county. The trail was marked by three hatchet chops in trees to show the way. The modern-day U.S. Route 250 roughly follows this route from Richmond to Charlottesville. Learn more about this land: In the heartland of Goochland where you can see deer from far and wide. Come pitch a tent in this gorgeous three acres of lush green Forestry surrounded and nature. Start your day listening to birds chirping, with the smell of fresh Virginia Air. Not too far at the shops from Short Pump Mall, we're dining and Cinema is superb. Only 30 minutes away from Charlottesville world's famous Carter's Mountain orchard, and Thomas Jefferson's Monticello mansion. Whisper Creek was founded in 1999. It has been the gathering place for many great friends and camping adventures. WC can hardly be camping, more like Glamping! This is a very private and quiet location. You can settle in knowing that this listing includes a covered picnic area. Which has counter space for food prep and cooking that includes a small sink. But remember, it’s camping so you’ll need to come prepared with a camp stove for cooking, although I do have charcoal and propane grill’s at the picnic area. Fire pit for awesome evening camp fires with free split firewood on hand. All I ask is that you burn it like you split and stacked it. You can gather and relax under the covered picnic area for dinner preparation and/or lounging. We are located within an hour from Wintergreen, numerous wineries, craft beer locations and numerous hiking destinations. Harmony Hut has fresh linens but please bring sleeping bags and/or sheets for the screened in bunkhouse. River access to the James River is a short drive to Howardsville. There you will also find a General Store which offers you the basics, such as Beer, Wine, Ice and a few grocery items. They make the best homemade sandwiches and grilled burgers. Direct river access can be provided via special request. I can also provide shuttling services. But this needs to be mentioned well before your stay as I don't live up there year around.

Peace like a river, love like a mountain Wintergreen Resort we’re not, but if you’re looking for a cozy (800-900 sq. ft.) mountain cabin with most of the comforts of home, Rocky Run Landing might be the place for you. Our motto is “You’re a long way away from it all before you ever get here.” Rocky Run Landing sits back in a loblolly pine grove just under the crest of Hawk Ridge in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cabin is two miles up the Tye River from the village of Norwood and the James River in southern Nelson County, Virginia. The address is 3124 Cedar Creek Road, Arrington, VA 22922. The cabin has a telephone, but no long distance service. Your calling card will work with this phone. You’ll have to find just the right spot to use your cell phone. Wireless internet is available via satellite. Rocky Run Landing consists of a small first-floor bedroom, a small loft bedroom, a bath and a half, kitchen/dining area, and a great room. The great room has two sleep futons, chairs, and a small TV/DVR with cable. A wood stove is also in the great room. The small kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, deep sink, gas range, coffeemaker, and microwave oven. A dining table and four chairs are provided, along with basic pots, pans, and tableware. Rocky Run Landing has central HVAC, but often all you need are the ceiling and pedestal fans. The best experience is al fresco! The small first floor bedroom features a queen bed, nightstand and lamp, and a chest of drawers. Bed linens, blankets, pillows, and towels are also provided. The half-bath is off this bedroom and adjoins the full bath. Electric wall heaters provide auxiliary heat in the bedroom and bathrooms. The bedroom also has a couple of very small closets, which are the only clothes closets in the cabin. The staircase to the small loft is very steep and is not recommended for older guests or the very young. The loft is furnished with a double bed. A hiking trail and a gravel road will take you the 1/3-mile to the Tye River, but be warned — both are steep. You’ll need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to drive to the river. You’ll need good legs to walk back to the cabin. By the riverside you'll find a well-groomed recreation area with picnic tables shaded by a canopy of white ash and river birch, a fire ring, and, in the summer, even a porta-potty. A 'beach' is cleared to the river. At normal water levels, this spot on the Tye is appropriate for supervised child's play and for adult water recreation. Fishing is also fine! History has it that the Tye River was Teddy Roosevelt's favorite fishing stream. Rocky Run Landing is a good location to either begin or end a paddling or tubing trip on the Tye/James Rivers. A canoe is available for rental and your hosts can assist with planning river trips from one-half mile to 20 miles (overnight). Shuttle service is included with canoe rental. Tubes are also available for a lazy drift downstream. Charcoal grills may be requested for use at the cabin or in the riverside picnic area (guests provide charcoal). The screened porch offers a serene view of Buffalo Ridge to the south across the river (if the leaves aren't too thick). Turn on the porch ceiling fans, relax in the porch swing, and whistle back to the whippoorwills. As the evening gets quiet, let the roar of the Tye River rapids lull you to sleep. If you decide you’d like to forgo seclusion and venture into the outside world during your stay, many places of interest are within a day trip of Rocky Run Landing. Jeffersonian and other historic properties abound, Civil War sites are easily accessible, Wintergreen Resort offers a variety of activities, and kid-friendly excursions are within kid-tolerance driving distance. Your hosts will be happy to recommend itineraries based on your interests and will check with Wintergreen to ensure any desired activity is available. Many wineries, breweries, and cideries are also in the area, along with local artisan shops. Rocky Run Landing is appropriate for a family vacation, spiritual sojourn, romantic escape, adventure quest, artist's or writer's retreat, friends' get-away, or sight-seeing base. I loved all of the farm, from the river walking to the trails. It was such a beautiful time. Would recommend it to anybody. Amy is the most pleasant person who welcomed me since the beginning.

Weekend Trip to Hawthorn Hollar

Moon and Julie were wonderful hosts. I had booked the weekend of the 4th of july and unfortunately the week before a heat wave was announced to roll in. My group decided to not cancel the trip and give it a shot, but 1 night outside with a heat index of 110 was too much, and we called the trip short. The hosts were very understanding and even refunded the second day, which according to the terms of our booking they absolutely were not required to do. I knew the risk when I accepted the booking. The campground itself is very beautiful and I plan on returning during better weather early this fall. I highly recommend this place. Also, as a bonus I learned that Moon is an avid reader so we had plenty to talk about, as I am a literature nerd myself.

2 nights at Wellness Cabins (3 to choose from)

I reserved this wellness retreat for my husband for our wedding anniversary/Father’s Day/baby minimoon. It was very relaxing to be out in nature with some peace and quiet away from our busy schedules. Trevor, the host was extremely kind and checked in on us vie email throughout our stay. We really enjoyed the ambience and visual vibes from the wellness cabin 1. The first floor of the unit was very comfortable with AC. Due to a very high heat index, on the first night, sleeping on the top bunk was very hot. We did have a small fan, but it did not provide a lot of relief; on the second night we ended up sleeping downstairs on an air mattress that we brought from home. It made our sleeping situation very comfortable. Also, it allowed me to not have to go up and down an unstable narrow ladder to get to the top of the loft while pregnant, which was a bit scary. All in all, we enjoyed the pizza oven as well as a wonderful cold plunge to cool down from the heat. Since it already felt like a sauna outside, we decided to skip the sauna. I would highly recommend this wellness retreat in cabin 1. Looking forward to exploring the other cabins on Trevor‘s property!

Fun country style room with complimentary food and drinks. Microwave and fridge toaster and coffee maker with coffee. Some fun couples games to play! Ac and the heater. And books to read.

2 nights at Farm cottage in the country

My granddaughter, pup and I really enjoyed our stay at Sarah's Cottage. It was very clean and cute. We had full access to the pool and back area of her property. There is a little reading room with some books as well as games that we had the pleasure of playing. There were plenty of floats to choose from and an area to sit out of the sun. My granddaughter and pup really enjoyed visiting with the goats and chickens on property. Sarah was a great host and checked in on us and responded quickly through messaging. I would definitely consider returning again but in cooler temps the next time. My little tribe and I really enjoyed our time on her little farm. ❤️

Very clean, tons of extras, it's hard to picture the layout with just photos but it was really great. The night lights are a lot of fun too! Just enough to get around but not give you night blindness. Our two dogs also had a great time seeing chickens and goats!

Trevor greeted us friendly and inviting great directions. The dome was spacious, clean neat, very modern and had cool tech things. The whole atmosphere was very relaxing. It was a great recharge for someone that has a busy schedule very much needed and I will be coming back and telling everyone about it thanks again for your hospitality.

This site was amazing! I spent a quiet weekend here with my partner and we loved all aspects of it. The cabin is somehow both small and spacious, and it had all the amenities we would have wanted. Having a mini fridge was a game changer for food prep, and Trevor was incredibly responsive and welcoming with any questions. We loved walking on the trails around the house and bird watching on the quiet benches around the trail. It does take a little but of climbing to get into the double bed, but once you’re up there it’s like a cozy little hideout :).

Weekend Trip to Wellness Cabins (3 to choose from)

Staying at Trevor’s Geo Dome was an incredible experience! We came all the down from Baltimore for this getaway to celebrate our anniversary here and it did not disappoint. It was awesome. The sauna, hot tub, fire pit, and beautiful views of the meadow made it feel like our own little oasis. So much so that my partner popped the question! I could not think of a more special place to get engaged. I will remember this experience for a lifetime.

1 night at Farm cottage in the country

Sarah was a wonderful host and had everything ready for us. Her attention to detail with the cabin made the stay fabulous. Cabin was stocked with snacks and goodies. Appliances such as Kuerig, toaster, microwave and fridge were useful for us. The bed slept well too. AC and heater as needed. A highlight was seeing the baby goat, goat family and beautiful hens and roosters! We also enjoyed a swim in the pool. Floats were nice to have. My husband has myotonic dystrophy but everything was accessible as he brought necessary adaptive devices. The compost toilet and gas shower were nice. Good to see appreciation for the environment. The property is well kept. I really liked the wooded area with fire pit and the cozy reading room. Sarah has a nice touch for interior design as well. We will be returning here for a longer stay and hope to bring friends. Looking forward to the hot tub

3 nights at Rocky Run Landing

We fully enjoyed our 3 night stay at Rocky Run Cabin. Very private location tucked into the woods with great access to the Tye River. I managed to catch a few panfish a found some spectacular souvenir rocks among the gravels. Birding was eventful and we added a few new birds to our list, Summer Tanager, Indigo Bunting, and Eastern Phobe. The large screened in porch came in handy on the rainy days, super peaceful and quiet. Hope to stay again and Thank you.

2 nights at Shireton

WOW! We spent our 1 year anniversary here. We are major Lord of the Rings fans and it was so cool to feel immersed and escape the daily routine. So cozy and a comfortable place to stay. The bed was so comfortable!! That copper tub was a dream. Loved making a fire and there was no shortage of firewood. The hosts were very kind, would absolutely stay here again. P.S. All of the props were SO COOL!! we had so much fun taking pictures with them!! Thanks guys!

Weekend Trip to Smith Farm

It was such an amazing space. We stayed in the trailer and could hear the animals and see a million stars. As someone who's dreamed of her own eventual farm, meeting the donkeys was the best!! Great to have a cozy and clean place to stay. The only drawback was the actual bedroom. The main had a small bed and no dresser or anything to put stuff on and one small nightstand. Nothing that would stop me from coming back though!
