Big Hole Boondockin'

28mi from Clark's Lookout State Park · 3 sites · Tents, RVs, Lodging · Melrose, MT
Big Hole Boondockin' is located in Southwest Montana along the beautiful banks of the Big Hole River. River View Livestock, a 300 acre working cattle ranch, surrounds our camping areas which gives you the opportunity to enjoy a real Montana ranch experience. If you're not into the ranch lifestyle, hop on a raft, inner tube or kayak and float down the river enjoying a cold beverage. We also offer bank fishing on our private property. Stressed? Book some time with our emotional support animals and snuggle one of the pigs or cows to take some stress out of your life. These animals are part of our family and love to sit and relax with humans, begging for belly scratches and giving kisses. The cell service & wi-fi are very iffy here. T-Mobile works great. If you have Verizon or AT&T you will not have service right at the campsite. You may have to walk or drive a bit to get a signal or the local restaurant & bar has free wi-fi for patrons. Whatever your camping dream is, our focused, friendly staff will work to achieve it. We look forward to hosting you and your family and friends and sharing our day to day dream life.

Reconnect with nature at this unforgettable escape directly on North Willow Creek in Pony, Montana. Private setting, luxurious glamping with all that the area has to offer. Bring your toys & horses for the direct access (through "town") to 100s of miles of trails for horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, ATVs or 4x4s in the Tobacco Root mountains. Or do a "cold plunge" in the year-round creek running through your campsite. The glamping tent has two twin beds (pushed together as one King bed but can be separated) and sleeps two people. If you have additional people in your party (max two additional people), feel free to bring your own tent for them to sleep in — there is plenty of flat space to set up on. Extra guests are welcome to use all amenities — there's an extra charge of $25/person/night (kids under 13 stay for free). * Max 2 dogs and/or 2 horses, please. $10/pet/night charged separately. Dogs must be leashed at all times. If you plan on keeping your dog inside the tent over night, please bring dog bed or crate. No pets on furniture, please. More info as well as mandatory animal release of liability at ponyonthecreek dot com The space Glamping at its best! Luxury bedding, down comforters, plush mattresses and cozy decor. Outside there's a firepit and several separate areas to relax and hang out. There is also an 125+ year old root cellar that is made in to a very special protected area for your meals — like a romantic dinner. Guest access Parking is right outside of the property. Guests have their own gate in the white picketed fence. The access is flat on grass and there is maybe 150 feet between where you park and the glamping site. Everyone in your party is responsible for staying safe by being careful and responsible. Parents are responsible for minors. Guests are fully responsible for any pet they bring. Might be a good idea to bring boots for walking through the morning dew in the grass. If you bring dog and/or equine(s) — please download and sign (and bring) release of liability at ponyonthecreek dot com.

Come spend some time with us on the Beaverhead River! Our small family wants to share our slice of heaven with you all. The RV Pad is 27 ft long and can typically fit up to a 45 ft trailer. A 30 AMP hookup is available with water supplied and a waste hookup available. You will need to provide all of the waste disposal/sewer hose necessary to hookup to the waste disposal as well as your electrical cord to hookup to the 30 amp outlet. My husband and I live on the property with our 1 year old and our mid size dog. Dogs are welcome with the understanding that the property is not fenced in and that our dog may establish some boundaries with your dog as she is an unfixed alpha female. We live in the log cabin next to the the RV pad and are currently renovating the house on the property. The RV pad is about 100 feet from the Beaverhead River where you have full access to recreate and fish. This property is on the eastern edge of Dillon and just upstream from Selway Bridge. Many birds migrate through here in the Summer time and are a joy to watch on bank of the river. There is a large fire pit on the property that may be used as long as it is not very windy out and you put the fire out after you are done. I will tell you that you cannot have a fire if it is too windy. The property is next to a property with horses and we have have few chickens that roam around our property. I do not want you on the property with dogs if they are going to go after the chickens or if they are obnoxious barkers. Of course reach out with any questions. We look forward to meeting you!

Overview

About

Camping near Clark's Lookout State Park takes you back in time, right into the footsteps of Lewis and Clark and their Corps of Discovery. It was here on August 13, 1805, when the legendary explorers paused their strenuous journey, searching for a passage to the Pacific Ocean, and stumbled upon a vista that was nothing short of breathtaking. The encounter was so profound that it led to the naming of this place as Clark's Lookout State Park.

As you hike the trail that leads to the park's summit, you can imagine the awe and anticipation that must have coursed through William Clark as he first surveyed the land. As you climb higher, the Beaverhead Valley unfurls below in a stunning panorama, just as it did for the Corps of Discovery. It's a vista that has stood the test of time, a silent witness to the march of history.

The trail's end rewards you with more than just a view; it's also the site of a unique tribute to this historic event. There, atop the lookout, a granite monument stands like a sentinel. Shaped like a compass, it's an homage to the pocket-sized instrument that was a trusted companion of Clark during the expedition. Its three readings, proudly displayed, mirror the ones Clark took in 1805, serving as an enduring testament to the exploratory spirit that helped shape this nation.

A Clark's Lookout State Park camping expedition is more than your run of the mill trek. It's a journey back in time that offers an intimate encounter with history. So, come to camp, to explore, and to walk the same trails once trekked by some of the country's earliest pioneers. Let the panoramic vistas inspire you just as they did the Corps of Discovery, and who knows? You might just discover something incredible yourself.
