Our property is in a close proximity to the Fairweather Fishing access on the Missouri River. Camping is not allowed at the access so we would be the closest camping site to this great outdoor playground. There is opportunity for fishing, floating, boating, hunting and swimming in the summer . There are groves of mature trees and open sites available. This is directly off of paved county road. The railroad is directly across the road from us. And it is loud at all hours of the night depending on its schedule. We would love to be able to somehow control that schedule! We hope the trees help muffle the sound! The property adjacent to ours has the original ranch house and barn and other outbuildings that were part of the Ponderosa Pine Ranch which owned most of the valley we're in. The ranch house and buildings were divided away from our part of the property several years ago, so we have our home here and what was mostly pasture. The campsites are all pasture grass with trees for shade.
We do not have cell phone service here. We have one site that has 30 amp electricity. Also we do not have trash service .

If new to the area and interested in history, we recommend the Tour Train. We also have several great breweries - our favorites include Ten Mile and Blackfoot Breweries (a perfect stop you can ride to after a trail ride/hike in the South Hills).
This site is perfect for those wanting to explore Downtown Helena, it's renowned trail systems, but still sleep under the stars.
Pets are allowed. Please make sure you pick up after them. There is water throughout the property that you are welcome to use for cleaning, but it is not potable.

Perched above Hauser Lake with wide-open big-sky views, Hilltop Camp is where you come to actually see the stars again. No crowds — just a small family farm, and sky that goes on forever after sundown.
We're a small family farm outside Helena, and staying here means you're part of the rhythm for a night or two. Fresh eggs from our hens are usually available for purchase (ask when you book), and you'll likely hear our rooster and guinea fowl greeting the morning. Early risers, all of them, and part of the charm if you're the kind of camper who loves waking up somewhere alive.
A few honest notes up front: the property has a rolling hill. Most sites have some natural slope, please bring leveling blocks if you're in a rig, and expect a bit of that "real land, not a paved pad" character. We are working to level sites as we can. What you get in return is a private, unhurried spot with sunset and sunrise views most campgrounds can't touch, and some of the best stargazing in the Helena Valley.
We live on the property year-round, so you're never staying somewhere unattended. Please text or call anytime and we typically respond within the hour. Good cell signal throughout, clear directions to each site, and we're always around if you need anything.
Four sites to choose from, each with its own personality. We have one site with electricity, and three dry camping sites. Hauser Lake is a short drive away for fishing and boating, and Helena's shops and restaurants are close enough for a supply run without losing that "middle of nowhere" feeling.
Getting here: There is a hill up to the property, and it can be slick after rain or snow. In wet or winter weather, 4WD or AWD is strongly recommended. If you’re driving a 2WD vehicle, please check the forecast and message us before you come. We do have equipment to keep the roads open and driveable.
Winter season (November 1 to May 1): Sites #2, #3, and #4 are closed. Site #1 stays open with electricity. Water and portable toilets are not available in winter, and there is no sewer hookup, so you must be fully self-contained.
Please keep in touch: Send us a quick text when you arrive and when you leave, even if you leave early. Weather here can change fast, and we like to know everyone is safe. If we don’t hear from you by checkout time, we’ll assume your site is vacated.

This 53 acres use to be owned by a guy named John Helberg which is who the road is named after. It’s the original homestead land dated over 100 years ago where they farmed for there dairy cows and other livestock.
This is right off a dead end road. You will have a view of a Montana farm field with the Rocky Mountains in the background. Dark nights out of the town means the stars will be out and about! This is a quiet secluded area there is a house near by, he is an older gentlemen you won’t even know he’s there.
Depending on time of year there will be a field full of crop or the farm getting farmed. There very well could be some horses near by to pet!! Located 10 minutes from the lakes. 5 minutes from a reservoir. 10 minutes from town. 15 min to closest hiking areas. Helena really is the heart of fun very centralized for all directions of fun! Very easy pull in and pull out area. Please not there may be other campers enjoying as well

You’ll see an old rustic building on your left next to the fence. You enter the property between the old rustic building and the fifth wheel RV to get into the field and you’ll see several reflectors with numbers on them.
Easiest entry is off of Main Street. Enter just behind the old rustic building (Post Off from 1880's) and make your way into and through the field.

As opposed to the thousands of runoff creeks in Western Montana, the unique Trout Creek Canyon has one of the few spring fed streams. It's rather large volume of water flows from several groups of canyons and drainages in the Little Belt mountains, bubbling out of the ground six miles up at the foot of the beautiful Vigilante canyon and terminating in the Missouri River three miles further down. Over the last 150 years a number of gold and silver mines have operated in the gulches at the side of the canyon. A pictorial history is available at the community park and in the social hall. If you're lucky you might even still see a few mountain goats on your way up the canyon.

A happy accident… since I was a bit rushed when I chose this Hipcamp, select selecting the site above the one I intended, I was a bit surprised to learn I was going north of I 90 rather than south by 17 miles or so, I didn’t know what to expect. But the drive was beautiful along curvy country roads and the pavement was decent. Watch out for curves at the crest of the hill! Also watch for beautiful views of the Missouri river to the west. The description is pretty accurate, the pasture land is pretty level but bumpy for an RV. My day was during a heat wave so, I was grateful for the shaded lot. The trains were a surprise as they felt like they were going right through me, but strangely enjoyable.  Since I was just passing through, I did not get to take advantage of all the river sports. As described, there is no cell service there, and apparently Internet is only available on occasion. The host was very gracious.

Was a stopover on our trip to west coast. Did exactly what we feel a Hipcamp should do. Easy to find, host came and said hi and then left us be. There were comments on the train noise but we had no problems with it. We have been to campgrounds that you stood up in the middle of the night from the horns and this is not one of them. The horns were distant and the rumble on the tracks is just normal train noise. People live by them every day. I would definitely stay again.

I really enjoyed my stay here! The property felt super private and peaceful, with open fields and really pretty mountain views. There was only one other site occupied for a night while I was there, so it never felt crowded at all.
I originally booked a different site but ended up switching to Barn Site 1 for the power hookup, and I’m glad I did. It had both water and power and was extremely easy to back into, even with my 30-foot camper. The land does have a slight downhill slope, but I was still able to get my camper leveled without trouble.
Julie and her daughter were both incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The location was also perfect, close enough to town that everything I needed was nearby, and there was a dump station less than 10 minutes away, but the property itself still felt quiet and tucked away.
I would absolutely stay here again!

Just what we expected, off grid, quiet, alone in the wilderness. Shower was great, the propane burner on the deck took away the chill of the morning. I liked the opening of the side- made me feel likel sleeping under the stars.

Jennifer’s directions were very clear- her place is lovely. Pond view site was clean and very nice with lots of birds to see and hear. There is a portable toilet onsite ( which was a very nice addition). Her property is pretty close to I-90, so if tent camping there would be some road noise- but certainly not all night. Would definitely stop here again. Thank you!

This is a great site. Beautiful surroundings, easy access, privacy, and plenty of room. We especially appreciated the river access and the ability to let the dogs off-leash. I'll definitely be camping here again!

Our host Christian was one of the nicest hosts we have ever met. Very accommodating and welcoming.
The site was 4 steps or more to the beautiful creek.
You hear the babbling water as you sit on the edge or even in your RV. Very quiet and serene.
It's a very compact level site. There is an RV and an old car very nearby which for some might delude the ambiance but your focus is primarily on the creek.

We had a great night staying at Julie's farm! The hosts greeted us upon arrival and showed us what we needed to know. We were even able to purchase some farm fresh eggs from Julie for breakfast, which was a nice treat after days on the road. Helena is super accessible for those visiting. Wish we had stayed more than 1 night!
