Perched above Hauser Lake with wide-open big-sky views, Hilltop Camp is where you come to actually see the stars again. No crowds — just a small family farm, and sky that goes on forever after sundown. We're a small family farm outside Helena, and staying here means you're part of the rhythm for a night or two. Fresh eggs from our hens are usually available for purchase (ask when you book), and you'll likely hear our rooster and guinea fowl greeting the morning — early risers, all of them, and part of the charm if you're the kind of camper who loves waking up somewhere alive. A few honest notes up front: the property has a rollng hill. Most sites have some natural slope — bring leveling blocks if you're in a rig, and expect a bit of that "real land, not a paved pad" character. We are working to level sites as we can. What you get in return is a private, unhurried spot with sunset and sunrise views most campgrounds can't touch, and some of the best stargazing in the Helena Valley. We live on the property year-round, so you're never staying somewhere unattended. Please text or call anytime and we typically respond within the hour. Good cell signal throughout, clear directions to each site, and we're always around if you need anything. Four sites to choose from, each with its own personality. We have one site with electricity, and three dry camping site. Hauser Lake is a short drive away for fishing and boating, and Helena's shops and restaurants are close enough for a supply run without losing that "middle of nowhere" feeling.

Upper Hill Campsite - Site #2

Upper Hill Campsite - Site #2 - Drive up the hill, take the first right at the top. Sitting at the highest point on the property, this dry camping site has open views in every direction and easy access to the portable toilet and trash bins. Sites follow the natural slope of the hill — not level, but manageable for most setups. RV and trailer guests should come prepared with leveling blocks. Tent campers generally have no trouble finding a comfortable spot. What's here: a picnic table, room to stretch out, and some of the best views on the property. A few things to know before you book: Water — Potable water is available on site but cannot be connected to directly. It's fine for showering and animals, but not for drinking and cooking. Winter stays (October 1 – May 1) — We're open year-round, but water and toilet facilities are unavailable in the colder months. Winter guests need to be fully self-contained. Toilets — A portable toilet is on site during the warmer months, conveniently close to this site. No flush toilets on the property. Trash — Bins are placed around the property for your use. Our only site with electric hookup, tucked near the barn with easy access and farm views. This is the site to pick if you want a little more comfort without giving up the hilltop quiet. Power for your rig, chickens wandering nearby, and the same wide-open sky as the rest of the property once the sun goes down. Electricity is included in the site price (not an add-on), so what you see is what you pay. A portable toilet is located here and shared by all campers on the property — worth knowing if you're staying at one of the other sites, and one more reason Site 1 works well for a quick overnight stop.

Lower Hill Campsite - #3

Lower Hill Campsite - #3 Drive up the hill, take the first right at the top — Site #3 is the second site on the right, tucked just below Site #2 on a gentle slope. A little more removed from the activity of the property, it's a good spot if you want to feel like you have some breathing room. What's here: a picnic table, open views, and room to spread out. The portable toilet and trash bins are a short walk away — close enough to be convenient, far enough to stay out of your way. A few things to know before you book: Sites follow the natural slope of the hill — not level, but manageable for most setups. RV and trailer guests should come prepared with leveling blocks. Tent campers generally have no trouble finding a comfortable spot. No open fires of any kind on the property — this includes campfires, fire pits, and charcoal grills. Propane camp stoves are welcome. Water — Potable water is available on site but cannot be connected to directly. It's perfectly fine for showering and animals. Round Corral Campsite - #4 - Drive up the hill, take the first right at the top — Site #4 is the second site on the left. This is the largest site on the property, with room for one or two vehicles. What's here: a picnic table, generous space to spread out, and water access at the site — Water hookup is available for an additional charge. The portable toilet is a short walk away. A few things to know before you book: Sites follow the natural slope of the hill — not level, but manageable for most setups. RV and trailer guests should come prepared with leveling blocks. Tent campers generally have no trouble finding a comfortable spot. No open fires of any kind on the property — this includes campfires, fire pits, and charcoal grills. What a peaceful beautiful place... I stayed 2 days! Great for star gazing too. Jeni was a wonderful host, kind and helpful - even had a little gift bag upon arrival. Quick drive to Helena... great coffee and breakfast sandwiches at Country Coffee - a little coffee shack near by. There's no shade, but a clean porta-potty and picnic tables. Would absolutely stay again!

Very friendly, the daughter of Julie came out and greeted us when we got there. Would definitely stay there again. Some bugs but to be expected out in fields and close to farm land, etc

This is the perfect place for a quick overnight stay. I loved being woken up by the roosters to watch the beautiful sunrise! There scenery is beautiful no matter what direction you look. The host was very friendly and welcoming as well.

A beautiful stop on my long drive back East. Excellent communication, and a big sky full of stars put me at ease for my quick, one-night stop. In the morning, I was given some water and a treat for the road!

From a tent camping perspective: not a flat/level spot to be found. Wide open, exposed hilltop wheat field with no shade. Had to request a trash can, however, 2 brand new ones showed up 24 hours later. We are “morning” people but the roosters (plural) and guinea hens were too much. Had to request an alternative site away from the port-a-potty, completely overgrown and trash riddled “site” first proposed to us. Being new to Hipcamp, this was a “learning experience”…

Julie greeted me with a welcome snack and told me about some of the local spots to check out (The Causeway; Lakeside Marina at Hauser Lake). The space was easy to locate and park. Quiet at night and 10 minutes to town. I appreciated her welcomeness and any questions/help was just a shout away :-)

Beautiful sunrises and sunsets! 6 min drive to Clark Bay Beach and boat launch. Farm fresh chicken and quail eggs available for purchase! Highly recommend.

This spot worked perfect for us for a quick overnight in Helena. Julie was SUPER responsive and came down to greet us and give us some tips about the area. It was early season for Montana and she even made sure the porta potty was delivered just in time for us. We woke up to the sounds of roosters, birds and cows. It was very quaint and peaceful.
