Dawson Family Ranch is a family-run business with a focus on sustainable land and agriculture practices. The ranch is located along a mile of the Boulder River between the Elkhorn and Bull Mountain Ranges. The river offers fishing for rainbow and brown trout. Public land access is within a short drive (2-7 miles depending on direction) and offers different recreational opportunities including hiking, hunting, and motorized recreation. Boulder Hot Springs is less than 4 miles away. This is the sole campsite on private land, with the ease of quick access to a paved highway. •The site is located within a short drive to public land (7.5 miles to USFS (Elkhorn Road); 6.5 miles to BLM (Dry Creek Road); 2.5 miles to BLM (Highway 69 south to Hadley Park Road). • It provides immediate access to the Boulder River for fishing or other water-based recreation. Please note that Montana’s Stream Access Law allows for water-related recreation below the ordinary high-water mark. Although the campsite is private, the access to the river is not exclusive as the upstream bridge allows for public access to the river. •The Boulder River does not typically have water flows to support any floating-based recreation. Most recreation includes wade-fishing for rainbow and brown trout. You can find more information on stream access visiting MT Fish, Wildlife & Parks website. This is also where you can purchase a fishing license from (or L&P Grocery in Boulder). •Pack it in – Pack it out: We offer no trash services. Please take all of your trash with you prior to leaving. •Camping: Please camp in the area around the metal-fire ring. •Campfires: A 30" metal-ringed fire ring is on site. Use this “designated fire ring” or your self-contained fire pits only. Please do not make other fire rings with rocks and make sure all fires are completely out prior to leaving site. •Hiking: You are welcome to hike and explore within the fenced pasture where the campsite is located, approximately 30 acres. There are no designated trails and you do so at your own risk of hazards including ditches, brush, rocks, insects, and wildlife (note both bears and moose have been observed on the property in the past). Please help us respect our neighbors and stay within our fenced property or within the river’s high-water mark. •This campsite is located on a stretch of the Boulder River where flood irrigation is a common agricultural practice. This can result in a high number of mosquitoes present along the river from June-August. This can vary depending on temperatures, amount of rainfall, and other factors that affect the mosquito hatch. We hope you enjoy your stay, please provide feedback, especially on anything that is not transparent in the description or rules.
