About the property
Our property is in the high desert above Borrego Springs at 4,300'. We border Anza Borrego State property which means you’ll be adjacent to plenty of beautiful open spaces. There are many trails in the park which lead to the desert floor from our fence line. On a clear day you can see the Salton Sea from the bottom of the property.
We have great access to nearby points of interest including Borrego Springs which is 20 miles away, Anza Borrego State Park which is adjacent to Julian at 40 miles away, Palomar observatory which is 40 miles away and Cuyamaca Lake which is fantastic for fishing only 45 miles away. If you need to pop into town for any supplies or services you can access Borrego Springs (20 miles away), Julian (40 miles away), Ramona (45 miles away), and Temecula (50 miles away).
We have 3 horseshoe pits and 9 frisbee golf baskets for recreation onsite and we have incredible dark skies for excellent stargazing. You may see many different forms of wildlife including mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, bob cats, racoons, badgers, and rattle snakes. You will see many rabbits, squirrels and tons of birds of all kinds! We are really the perfect location for those who love the outdoors!
Owners live on site but we like to greet, meet, and then leave you to your stay! Please reach out if you have questions or concerns though.
About the listing
Our listing is for tents, vans and truck campers, trailers, or RV’s and we can accommodate rigs up to 25ft in length. A few of our 5 sites are pull through sites on dirt and may require some leveling. All sites are dry camping only as we do not have any hookups, though there are two bathrooms and water available in a centralized area on the property.
You can expect High desert and scrub brush environments. Any vehicle should be able to access our property but 4-wheel drive vehicle might make it a little easier to access areas on the outside perimeter of the property. While staying with us you can expect some noise from coyotes, raven….wind and a little highway traffic on s22.
Each site will accommodate up to 6 people. Amenities listed below:

- Coffee Berry site is the furthest site on the property. Definite favorite for self-contained trailers. Plenty of shade and privacy.
- Tree House site is great for smaller trailers/RVs or tent camping further out.
- Linden & Manzanita are both large sites in an open field. Bring shade! Perfect open sky for star gazing.

There are visiting animals that past thru and could include, coyotes, bobcats, Coatis, foxes, rabbits, quail, hawks and mountain lions. There are also some snake and lizards. We do have rattlesnakes. To make up for the rattlers we offer two flush toilets!
Camp on the healthy, beautiful and first Certified Organic White Sage Farm in the World. I like to tell people that this is sacred land and it is. Come see the magnificent boulder formations. Come for the quiet. Come for the stars. Remember that the Jacumba Hotel Hot Springs and restaurant is 5 minutes away and the food is exceptional.

Beautiful high desert,(3500') with boulders, boulder mountains, caves and views. Rolling southern California terrain, home to all kinds of birds and wild life. Camp on top of the mountain, or camp in a cave or anywhere in between. See the Milky way on most nights, all have incredible stars. 40 acres. Visit our the little town of Jacumba Hot springs down the road. Exciting things are happening there. The Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel, really good food, organic produce, and of course the Water! They offer day passes. Weekend music events at the Hotel or the The Old Bathhouse where you listen under the most incredible stars. Bazaar at the Bathouse the first Saturday of the month.
This is the prettiest property in east county! And the healthiest! It is a Certified Organic White Sage farm. This is the old west! Come in the spring for the wild flowers on the land.
Come for the dark skies.

The Road needed to be built wide and smooth in order to transport the Hale Telescope. The construction had to stop due to the start of WW2. Once WW2 had ended the work was completed 1948.
The Base Camp first name was Palomar Gardens, Then Oak Knoll Camp and is now being rebranded back to its Original Name Basecamp Palomar.
The property is rustic, a little dusty and very old school. If you're looking for a new type of camping with 5-star amenities we recommend Pala or Pechanga Resort RV Park Casino RV Park.
We are just plain and simple.
Note: the property has two sections one is for Kamping / RVing and the other is Seasonal / fulltime RVers

Had a great stay. Bernie and Hoa were very welcoming and invited us to walk/explore their beautiful property. Enjoyed the sunset and star gazing in the evening. We purchased fresh eggs and Bernie gave us a sampling of fruits and vegetables. It was quiet and relaxing. All 3 sites were level with full hook ups. Enjoyed our stay and will be back.

A truly wonderful spot and can't say enough good things about Bernie and Hoa as hosts. They were so welcoming, graciously offered lemons, tangerines, and cucumbers from their garden. Even invited me over to join the neighborhood potluck they were hosting, having known me for 30 minutes!
RV hook ups were easily accessible, and spot was exactly as promised.
10/10 would recommend. Will definitely be returning myself!

A full hook-up spot on 12 acres of farmland makes for a nice stay. Other than the sporadic crowing of a rooster and the occasional braying of a donkey it was a nice getaway from anything resembling a city. Directions to the property were clear and Bernie is a really interesting guy to talk to. I would definitely go back again.

The Thompson Palms Campground is absolutely amazing. Between the hosts Bernie and Hoa being so kind and welcoming to their campground and the peaceful surroundings it has been such a pleasure to stay. The property is amazing with beautiful trees and landscape throughout the property including a Koi pond and chicken coops and cows that like to come say hi. There is also a farm stand on site so you can buy fresh eggs. Sitting and talking with Bernie and Hoa has been an absolute joy during the evening under their palapa. Thank you again for such a great time at the campground I will definitely be back again.

It was a delight to stay at Bernie and Hoa's. The quiet was broken up only by the moo of the cows, the cluck of the chickens and the crow of distant roosters. The gardens are beautiful and the flowers so fragrant. We could hear the owls at night and birds during the day. Our hosts were helpful and accommodating. Would recommend Bernie and Hoa's anytime and would most definitely come back.

Very nice serene location with plenty of room to walk and see nature. The owner's came to visit with us when we pulled into the site and provided some general guidance on the location of the pond area, and other interesting sites. He also let us park in another open area since we were the only people there that night. We had a great visit with our 20' van. Pet friendly (on leash) location with plenty of sites to visit and see. Clean restrooms are facilities. Plenty of wildlife to see and stars to gaze at. We'll be back.

We slept SO WELL at Coyote Moon. It’s so peaceful, dark and quiet - exactly what we needed after a beautiful but disruptive night of sleep in Joshua Tree. Adil is a great Host, creating a strong sense of welcome and safety while supporting your privacy and seclusion. The view from the site is really beautiful and there were great flowers while we there!! As a heads up you will be camping fairly close to the house but the site is lovely, private and peaceful. This is a beautiful property with very nice hosts. The grass is lush and green with trees draping over the landscape like a glorious frame. Truly a peaceful and breathtaking property. Cows and chickens and lots of bunnies hopping through.
The hookup spaces are perfect and large. They each have their own picnic table and are separated by more beautiful trees for some privacy between camp sites. A very thoughtfully designed camp area with very welcoming hosts. I actually extended my stay by a few additional nights because I got lucky with availability and didn’t want to leave that beautiful property. Even the drive to the property is serene and amazing. Thank you for allowing me and my fur baby clan to rest on your land. 🙏🏻

Tamarisk Grove Campground is about 20 minutes south of Borrego Springs. It sits next to the highway but there’s minimal traffic so it isn’t terribly loud. There are tent sites as well as primitive cabins. Each site has a fire ring and table. There are also flush toilets and paid showers. There is no potable water at this campground - be sure to bring your own. The cabins are simple structures with platforms for sleeping. There are no amenities in the cabins - no electric, no water, no mattress, no linens, etc.
The campground is across the street from both the Cactus Loop and Yaqui Well trail heads. We recommend the short Cactus Loop hike over the Yaqui Well hike. Go at sunset to catch the cholla cacti backlit by the sunset.

Tent or cabins, we've done both and always enjoy this out of the way spot. Keeping the cabin closed in the daytime allows the walls to keep you cool as they retain the cool night temperature. Spring rains bring out gorgeous cactus flowers. Also be sure to see the wonderful metal sculptures in the area.

This campsite is very nice with new facilities ("thanks" to a flash flood a few years ago that wiped out all the old stuff). It's close to trailheads and the mountains block a lot of SoCal's light pollution for perfect night sky viewing. Perfect for someone like me that likes creature comforts.

I was amazed at the beauty and grandeur of this seemingly desolate area. From delicate plant life to geological formations to stunning vistas, there is so much to see and do nearby. Certainly take a hike through Slot Canyon! If you are in the mood for 4WD, California Overland Tours has some great excursions to Font's Point and through the desert badlands and more.

Definitely get one of the ramada sites, which includes a wood structure, a picnic table or two, and a neat old corner fireplace. We pitched our tent outside of the ramada and used the space for eating and hanging out. Good educational info on the nature walk.

If you'll be attempting the many miles of 4WD roads in the park or the adjacent Ocotillo Wells OHV park, the Tom Harrison "San Diego Backcountry" map available at the Visitor Center is indispensable.
