Bearlodge Mountain Resort

28 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents10 acres · Sundance, WY
The Bearlodge Mountain Resort can be a quiet getaway from a hectic lifestyle, a base camp for hunting, an adventure-packed vacation, or a great spot to stay while you tour area attractions. Where "networking" is two pickups parked in the middle of the road so that their drivers can visit. Where we go grocery shopping in the woods during the fall. Where "neighbors" might live two hours away or just down the road. Where directions are given in "north and south" instead of "right and left". Life's a little slower, people a little more sincere and a handshake still means something! PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TENT CAMPING: I don't have any shower or bathroom facilities. The closest place I know of is the Conoco a mile north of my place on Cleveland St. They have a truck stop and I'm told the shower is nice. There is a chance I won't be on site to greet you, but so far everyone has been incredibly respectful and found some great places to put up a tent. I trust you!

The best camping near Keyhole State Park guide

Overview

About

At the edge of the Black Hills lives a state park in which both humans and birds seek refuge under the watchful eyes of Devils Tower. Keyhole State Park is a mecca for resident and migratory birds alike. So if birding makes your heart flutter, then this is the spot for you. Located along the Keyhole Reservoir and a viewing distance away from Devils Tower, Keyhole provides plenty of activities ranging from checking off different birds from your bingo sheet to experiencing other wildlife (such a deer, antelope, and wild turkey) to fishing and swimming. Keyhole State Park is your place to stay and play!

When to go

The ideal time to visit Keyhole State Park is from late spring to early fall, when the weather is warm and the park's full splendor is on display. Summer months offer the best conditions for water sports and camping, though they can be busy. Winters can be harsh, with limited access and activities due to snow and cold temperatures.

Know before you go

  • Check weather conditions before your visit, as the park's weather can change rapidly.
  • Be aware of local wildlife and maintain a safe distance, especially from larger animals.
  • Remember to pack out all trash and leave no trace to preserve the park's natural beauty.
  • Some areas may be inaccessible during off-peak seasons due to weather conditions.
  • Facilities such as restrooms and picnic areas are available, but it's wise to bring extra supplies.
