4R Ranch Winery Campsite

141 sites · RVs, Tents1132 acres · Muenster, TX
Where the short-grass prairie drops into the Red River Valley, the 4R Ranch—with its magnificent vistas and rocky terrain—is perfectly suited for growing grapes. Patriarch W.C. Roper encouraged his family of sixth-generation Texans to share the beauty of this extraordinary place with others; and so it was love of this man and love of the land that inspired 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery. Chinquapin oaks, white-tailed deer, the endangered black-capped vireo, and the occasional Rio Grande turkey inhabit this incredible property. Powered by sun, earth and wind, 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery calls us all to slow our pace, enjoy the view, and sip a glass of wine in the magnificent Red River Valley.

this is Paradise on Lake Texoma

27 sites · Lodging, Tents100 acres · Pottsboro, TX
Paradise on Lake Texoma (formerly Paradise Cove) is a beautiful, secluded commercial campground located in the "Big Mineral Arm'' of Lake Texoma. Built in the 80's by the Corps of Engineers, Paradise has been a mainstay of the lake for many years. Recently, the current management team are working to grow Paradise into something special. With a huge focus on community and culture, Paradise has tons of space for people to come together and enjoy the company and also areas to wander off and find a quiet lakeside spot to relax. You'll also be able to catch one of the best breathtaking sunsets on the lake! The wildlife we have on the property is amazing! I have deer that sleep in my front yard, opossums, 600 bird species, and my favorite… the armadillos! We offer Kayaking on the property for a fee. We have a beautiful Hammock Garden free for guests to kick back and relax. Texoma Water Taxi is a text away to give guests a ride anywhere on the lake including restaurants. Rock-N A Ranch is roughly 20 minutes away and offers horseback riding. The Cabins and Campsites are within walking distance from each other but far enough away to create that illusion of privacy. We do have a neighborhood close by but you can’t see or hear them due to the woods.  In my travels, I try to bring back something I’ve seen or learned to help improve the guest experience and environment. You’ll notice little touches of Asia, Mexico, and even Hill Country Texas! We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and treat every guest like family. We’re always a text away! You’ll see us out and about on our golf carts. If you ever need anything just holler (: Check-in time is at 3 pm. Our staff works really hard to make sure everything is perfect for your stay and we can’t guarantee it will be if you arrive before then. Parking, we work really hard to keep our property beautiful. Be sure to park in parking areas only.

The PARK at Brushy Creek

5 sites · Lodging, Tents55 acres · Trenton, TX
We're situated just outside Trenton on 55 acres of gently sloping terrain featuring a wide creek and expansive grounds beyond the Big Oak, perfect for exploration. Enjoy stunning sunsets, a clear view of the night sky, the tranquil sounds of the creek, and occasional visits from deer, all contributing to a peaceful retreat. Our property is evolving as we create manicured groves and open pastures for both our farm animals and guests. During rainy spells, expect some mud and occasional sightings of heavy equipment or tractors. Our livestock rotate between our two properties, so they may not always be here at The PARK at Brushy Creek. If you don't see them here, you're welcome to visit our other property across the road with the big green gate. Currently, there is no electricity or Wi-Fi on the property. Lighting is provided by solar power or batteries. Tent sites have access to a water spigot, and there's a Port-o-let nearby. This is rural country living; our neighbors' livestock and dogs may make sounds like bleating, barking, oinking, mooing, neighing, squealing, whinnying, braying, or whining at any time of day or night. We are conveniently located one hour north of Dallas Fort Worth, just 30 minutes from McKinney, Sherman, or Greenville, and within 10 miles of Leonard, Whitewright, and Bonham. Fieldsong Farm

2 sites · RVs, Tents13 acres · Lucas, TX
In 2013, we bought our 13 acres from a larger parcel of land that had been owned and farmed by the Snider family for 150 years. (Note that we live on Snider Lane). The Sniders played an important part in the development of our town, Lucas, and surrounding schools. The rest of the land has been sold to two families, and all three purchasers (that includes us!) are establishing small family farms. Hurray! Plus the Snider's old house and barn next door are being renovated by the new owners! Since 2013, we have brought in water and electricity to the land, built fences, a house and several barns. We have a flock of chickens, a bunch of loud, nosey Nubian dairy goats, 2 cats and 2 dogs. We farm organic vegetables, and have planted some fruit trees. We are committed to conservation of our land and the wildlife that call it home, and are working to restore our wildflower meadow (location of the campsite) to original prairie state. Come see us; we'd like to share it all with you! Learn more about this land: Come to Fieldsong Farm, absorb the peace and serenity, and leave refreshed! Stake your tent on the edge of our tallgrass wildflower meadow, and immerse yourself in diversity where the city ends and the country begins. Enjoy a fire in the fire ring from your seat on a "porch" swing as the sun goes down and the wildlife begin their nightly symphony. When the sun comes up, you'll have many choices to make--cycling, horseback riding, fishing, boating, paddling, hiking, running, strolling, visiting with the goats, cats and chickens, helping with farm chores, or just sitting to enjoy the peace and serenity of the farm. The best camping near Ray Roberts Lake State Park guide

Overview

About

Lush prairies and shaded woodlands fringe the shores of the mighty Ray Roberts Lake in this state park. Head to the lake to swim, boat, or stand-up paddleboard; try your luck fishing for crappie, catfish, and white bass; or perhaps beat the lake record for largemouth bass—currently at 15.18 pounds. Away from the water, the 20-mile Greenbelt Corridor stretches to Lake Lewisville, and has trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Campers can stay in the Johnson Branch (north shore) and Isle du Bois (south shore) campground sections of the park, and equestrian camping is also available.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for fishing: Oak Point Campground (Johnson Branch) has 29 primitive tent sites just a short hike from the boat ramp and fish cleaning station.
  • Best for hikers: Dogwood Canyon (Johnson Branch) has 19 primitive tent-only campsites with chemical toilets and easy access to the DORBA trailhead.
  • Best for RVs: Quail Run Campground (Isle du Bois) has 38 sites with water and electric hookups, fire rings and grills, and picnic tables.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve campsites at all of the park’s campgrounds in advance via the Texas State Parks website.
  2. Campsite reservations open five months in advance.
  3. Campsites can book up as fast for summer and holiday weekends—book as early as possible, especially if you have a particular site in mind (such as those by the lake).

When to go

Ray Roberts State Park is open year-round, but the most popular time to visit is from late spring through early autumn. Average daytime temperatures are 95°F in summer, making this the ideal time for swimming and boat cruises. Peak fishing season for bass is in spring and summer, but you’ll catch crappie and catfish whenever you visit.

Know before you go

  • Ray Roberts State Park is located about 65 miles north of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex or about a 1-hour drive away. The park is split into nine units, three of which are developed—Johnson Branch, Isle du Bois, and the Greenbelt Corridor.
  • Along with RV, tent, and equestrian camping, you can anchor your houseboat at the Lake Ray Roberts Marina (Sangar Unit) or stay at the Lone Star Lodge (Jordan Unit).
  • Park entrance fees are required n addition to camping fees, and general entrance reservations can be made up to one month in advance.
  • Facilities in the park include restrooms, picnic areas and pavilions, fishing piers, fish washing stations, playgrounds, and designated swimming areas. You can purchase groceries and camping supplies in Pilot Point, a 15-minute drive from the Isle du Bois unit.
  • Some camping areas, trails, group pavilions, and restrooms in both the Johnson Branch and Isle du Bois units are accessible for wheelchairs.
