T's Pond

2 sites · Lodging29 acres · Port Colborne, ON
Like most folks who’ve been bitten by the water ski bug, I dreamed of having my own lake and when I met my life partner Harald, an elite slalom skier, my search began in earnest. By a combination of good timing and good luck, I was able to make that dream come true and in the spring of 2014 I acquired this land with the hopes of building my dream water ski lake on it. 7 years later, we have a thriving water ski club and are constantly making improvements to the site. We now have decided to add some sites for rent to share this incredible property with others outside the water ski community. Site #1 is a small cabin that sleeps 3 and site #2 is a small houseboat that has been converted to a bunkie. Onsite activities include use of a canoe and paddleboard. Use of a kid's swingset and olympic trampoline. Swimming and fishing. Pets are welcome, campfires are permitted.

Fitz Farm Manor Camping

7 sites · RVs, Tents15 acres · Hagersville, ON
We built this home after Gerry and his dad sold their garden centre/nursery. Now Gerry is retired from running a lawn care service and Rosemary is recently retired from being the administrator of a seniors’ complex/nursing home. In our spare time, we like to garden, harvest veggies, and freeze and can produce. We enjoy entertaining friends and family- you may meet some during your stay here. We raised a family of four boys here. (they say they were our first Airbnb guests- but they were the non-paying type.) Our location is super quiet. In the mornings, you may hear the birds singing. At night, there may be a few crickets or a tree frog singing. You can walk down our quiet road past dairy farms and fields of corn, soybeans and hay. Often you will not meet a car or neighbor. Our outdoors has been set up to accommodate 2 family reunions and 2 church picnics each summer. Sometimes that could be 40-75 people enjoying the pool, hammocks, patio and the grounds. Whether you are looking for a relaxing vacation or whether you are here on a work assignment. We look forward to having you spend time at our home.

The best camping near Niagara Falls National Heritage Area guide

Overview

About

Niagara Falls is more than just rushing water. The area is full of history in addition to the natural wonder. When you need to get the sound of rushing water out of your ears, check out some the surrounding towns.

Fort Niagara was a Revolutionary War outpost for the British. Anyone fleeing the fighting that was still loyal to the Mother Country could stay here. British soldiers dressed in period costumes take you on tours of the battlements and the grounds.

This region was also a safe haven for the Underground Railroad leading up to the Civil War. Anyone crossing the Niagara River into Canada meant they were free from the bonds of slavery. Their perilous journey to freedom was finally over. Many of these people returned to settle the area after the bloody conflict.

The raging waters of the river created copious amounts of hydroelectric power. It was here that America advanced as an industrial nation. Large electrical generators sent power to nearby Buffalo. The electricity, in turn, sparked several industries. Just think the amount of work it took to create an enormous power plant here.

Nearby campsites offer a great home base for a summer or fall getaway. There's plenty to do apart from the falls. Don't miss the nearby towns of Lewiston and Youngstown.
