Our stars shine brighter than most, and coyote songs will remind you that you're dwelling amongst the high desert wildlife.The 1 3/4 mile road to Little Dancing Horse Ranch is not for everyone. I will reiterate this a couple times in this listing to make sure people understand that we live on a rocky, dirt road. Some folks find it not to be a big deal while others do. There are beautiful views and access to Shaggy Peak, the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Wander our land to enjoy various level hiking trails including a 20 minute hike to a creek and waterfall in the forest (some steep spots and creek is intermittent) or climb up Shaggy Peak (seasoned hikers only please).
IMPORTANT: We are up 1.3 miles of dirt road (with 5-7+% grade in a few short stretches) and are not near public transportation so you will need your own vehicle! Be aware that the roads can be snowy, icy or muddy and rutted ( 4-wheel or All-trak recommended in certain times of year). We don’t guarantee the road will be plowed.
We generally close for the season due to cold weather around Halloween and reopen just before Memorial Day.

This glamp zone occupies only 1.25 acres. Part of our mission in creating this space is to bring folks together. We encourage campers to mingle. Maybe organize a group float down the Chama. The float from just above Bodes to our very own shore is wonderful. It takes about two hours. There is one challenging spot, but beside that, the float is calm and tranquil.
Please be aware, we have cats, chickens, goats, donkeys, horses and dogs that live on the property. Your pets are welcome only if they are guaranteed to not pester or hurt our posse of pets. Also, we will not tolerate excessive barking or inappropriate running around or bothering ourselves or other guests. You must pick up all your and your pets waste and take it with you when you leave.

Each site is nestled beneath towering Ponderosa and Blue Spruce pines and Aspens. They offer level ground for tents, grill for cooking, and easy access to nearby hiking trails, Cowles Ponds, and the soothing sounds of the Pecos River. Whether you’re stargazing by your campfire or sipping coffee with the morning breeze, this is where relaxation lives.
Your campsite is part of the Vida Bonita Pecos complex, which includes beautifully remodeled cabins and the remodeled Ponderosa Lodge. While you’ll have total privacy at your site, guests are welcome to explore designated areas of the property, our trout pond, and free roaming chickens and turkeys.
We don’t pack campers in. No RVs. No generators. Just you, the trees, and a sky full of stars.

THE SPACE
The bell tent has a comfortable queen bed with fresh linens, pillows and comforter. Basket inside has additional pillows and blankets.
As a high desert, water is a precious resource.
We've built a custom outdoor solar-heated shower with both hot and cold water that is extremely efficient. The water-system is filled daily and holds approximately six gallons (hot). There is a water-saving shower head with an on/off mechanism. "Navy showers" are a must: turn on to get wet, turn off to lather up and then rinse off. With this method, more than one person can shower. To take advantage of the solar gain, best used in the afternoon or evening.
We offer soap, shampoo, conditioner and towels. There is a nice bench, lots of hooks to hang your towels/clothes, and a shower caddy. The area is private and secluded with solar lighting for nighttime use.
There is a separate sink (cold water only) and private enclosed toilet facility next to the shower area.
Guidebook in tent listing restaurants, bars, tap houses within 10 minutes drive and without need to go into Santa Fe.

This site requires a hike. No vehicles are permitted beyond the cattle gate.
Potable water is available upon request, but we prefer that you BYO. Since I have to hike it out there, you must let me know what you need at the time of your booking.
This is a primitive shelter. There is no running water nor electricity (aside from a solar light). The solar will charge your phone, so bring your cord!
It's just like camping but with walls and a roof over your head - and the benefit of having no other campers around. You might see an occasional hiker with their dog. If you have a dog, take note. This site is completely fenced in so that your fur baby can safely roam.
There is no heating or cooling. The desert can get cold at night. With enough notice, a portable propane heater can be provided for an additional charge.
Hipcampers are kindly asked to park just outside our gate and embark on a picturesque 3/4 mile hike back to the shelter. The flat hike offers scenic views and adds to the adventure of your stay. PLEASE clean up after your pup.

Weekend Trip to Juniper Mesa Camp
The yurt was absolutely beautiful! The inside was super cozy and clean. Kate was an excellent host and was super kind and friendly. There was a nice outhouse right outside and also a little heater which helped keep us warm all night. Very scenic views surrounding the location with lots of great hiking and outdoor activities surrounding the area. I would definitely recommend this spot.

We stayed at Kate’s yurt and it was a cool experience. Everything needed for camping was provided and there were plenty of blankets to keep warm. The views are amazing and it’s a quiet area. Would love to go back with some family members to share this experience.

Weekend Trip to Juniper Mesa Camp
This was my fourth time staying with Kate, the yurt was fantastic as always! This was the first time i had to use the heater and it worked like a charm (in case anyone is curious about cold weather). This location was so much fun! Perfect views, and we were able to have a nice campfire in the morning. Nikki was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The location was gorgeous and in good driving distance of the national forests. Would absolutely visit again!

1 night at Canyon of the Sleeping Bear
My boyfriend and I spent one night in one of the cabins on Nikki's land. Facilities were clean and as described and Nikki was excellent at communicating. I would suggest a 4WD car with some clearance, especially if it's raining or snowing because it's a longer drive on a dirt road. Overall great stay!

We loved staying at the Silo! It served as a great base camp for our adventures throughout the weekend. It’s a short drive from Santa Fe and Taos and surrounded by a ton of outdoor recreation areas. The space itself had everything we needed - fully stocked kitchen, bathroom with a shower, and a comfortable bed. It’s also secluded and offers great solitude surrounded by nature. We briefly crossed paths with Pat who was very friendly and welcoming. We would happily stay again and suggest this stay to everyone!

It was amazing! I loved the stay. The beds are very clean everything its well in organized along with a beautiful classic layout. The outside view is sooo beautiful during the sun rise and dawn. I really enjoyed it and me and my friend where so happy! And the bed is a very good size for two people to! And its soft. Toilets are clean and work well just like any home or public place

I can't recommend this site enough. We are still talking about it days later. The host was so welcoming, gave us a little tour, and told us information about the land and surrounding area. This place is an amazing vibe and experience with so many thoughtful details. It's comfortable, fun, there were interesting reading materials, everything to make coffee, a sink space setup, a heater, a spot to charge your phones, even a large mirror. A group of people could stay here comfortably as the space is setup with multiple sleeping areas. I also appreciated the little twinkle lights in the outhouse. There were solar lights around the area to light the way on arrival and we enjoyed the gorgeous dark sky and saw some meteor showers. We (and our pack) had such a comfortable stay here and it's clear the host puts a lot of love and care into it. If I'm ever in the area again, I would stay here in a heartbeat.

Perfect stay for one or two nights! Tara is responsive in communication and was very welcoming upon my arrival. Nice quiet location on a dead end street, Clean, inviting and spacious room with a very comfy bed. I definitely hope to return next time I’m in ABQ.

Haven't camped here, but went kayaking. Lovely views, clean restrooms and showers, steep but good boatramp. Quite compared to the Cochiti campground, much smaller. Nice. easy paddle to the mouth of the Rio Grand which runs into the lake. Saw bass fish.

Very large and modern campground. All pavement and concrete paths to the sites. Not easy to get to the lake itself from the campground as you have to drive there or walk all the way back to the entrance and then back down the boat ramp.

New Mexico State Parks wins again! This campground is super reasonable (only $12/night). The facilities are super clean and new. Bathrooms include free push-button showers. If you're lucky, you can snag a spot that looks right out onto the lake too. It's a good basecamp if you're exploring the Santa Fe area.
