We own a small farm on 64 total acres with around 59 wooded. We have 4 primitive camping sites with lots of woods, wildlife, and two small creeks. We are even located on a short dirt road to give you that country feel. All of our sites are spread out from one another and you will feel secluded in the woods with nature. On our farm are free range chickens, peacocks, goats and a donkey in a pasture, turkeys (wild and domesticated), honeybees (in the field), and a few outdoor cats. We enjoy our animals and nature. We want to share this experience with others so we have decided to rent a few camping spots that we have shared over the years with our children. Enjoy the peaceful nights and the sounds of nature and star lit skies. In the daytime check out our farm animals, walk the trails, or explore the woods. Guest are welcome to pet and feet the animals if they choose. We are conveniently located less than two miles from a Dollar General, three miles from several restaurants right of I75, 8 miles to nearest Walmart, under 20 minutes to High Falls State Park, under 25 minutes to Dauset Trails Nature Center, and under 30 minutes to Indian Springs State Park. All of this located close to our property while being only 3 miles from the I75 on ramp at exit 205.

When I moved onto Windy Lane as a child in third grade, our road was a country dirt road. I have a lot more neighbors now, but my little piece of heaven has remained country.  My husband, Randy and I enjoy the peace and quiet we get and the plus of being close to the Interstate for when we need to make trips to Atlanta.  My land is still surrounded by a fence, now rusted, that my Daddy put up when I was a child. The property is big enough for us to enjoy and small enough for us to maintain.  My wildlife camera has captured photos of deer, coyotes, foxes, opossums, raccoons and an occasional dog and cat from the neighborhood.  We hope you will stop by and visit with us. Safe travels and may the road rise to meet you and the wind be at your back!Learn more about this land:Pitch your tent in your favorite spot on our 5+ acre lot. Our niche is privacy and our cute little Nigerian Dwarf goats grazing nearby. Once you are on our property, you will quickly forget you are just a mile from Interstate 75. We are located off Exit 205 and are 40 miles south of Atlanta and 35 miles north of Macon. We are just 5 miles from High Falls State Park and Indian Springs State Park (where kayaking, boating, fishing, hiking, etc. are available). We are just 3 miles from Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary and 6 miles from Dauset Trails Nature Center. Both are must sees for animal lovers. If you love stockcar racing, we are just 18 miles from Atlanta Motor Speedway. Activities there aren't just for "race weekends."If shopping is more "your thing," we are just 7 miles south of Tanger Outlet Mall in Locust Grove, Georgia.

Overlook at Seven Islands

18. Overlook at Seven Islands

32mi from Ocmulgee National Monument · 3 sites · Tents, RVs · Monticello, GA
We live on site on 17 acres that is surrounded by large tracts of undeveloped land with the Oconee National Forest within 1/4 mile and the Ocmulgee river within 1 mile. The name Seven Islands comes from the rich history of this area and the nearby trading site between Native Americans and settlers in the 1800s on the seven islands of the Ocmulgee River. For Equestrian campers, we have an electric hook-up near the house and a round-pen size paddock for horses (or can make panels into stalls) +$7/horse/night. (Note: We reserve the right to refuse lodging to horses with runny noses/runny eyes or otherwise sick). *Cabin being remodeled. To be open some time in 2025* We are happy to ride with you when available if desired - or we recommend using the Outdoor Active or Gaia app. Our tent camping area is a peaceful, shady area overlooking meandering Kinnard Creek. The dirt road is within view, but it is a country road rarely travelled by anyone other than kayakers and other recreationists. You may hear the friendly nicker or see our 3 horses coming to check you out, but their pasture area does not intrude on the camping area. Hike or ride your horses on the nearby trails. The Fried Green Tomatoes cafe and Sac-O-Suds (famous from the movie "My Cousin Vinny") [Edit: Sac-O-Suds store is currently closed. But still a scenic drive-by] are an easy drive as well as Covington GA where you can see The Vampire Diary clock tower (or take a tour of other filming locations). There are many quaint shops in town, a 10 minute drive, or in nearby Madison GA. This is a great country getaway to reconnect with nature and peace. We are just far enough away not to be intrusive, but near enough if you need assistance.

Overview

About

There aren't many places where humans have lived for continuously for 17,000 years. Ocmulgee is one of them. From Ice-Age hunters to Native American mound-builders, it's housed some fascinating folks. Explore this ancient land with 6 miles of trails and an excellent museum.

Start your tour in the museum, where you can learn about prehistoric residents. Outside, charge your camera for the Earth Lodge—the floor is 1000 years old. The path also runs past the trading post and the Great Temple Mound. If you're feeling energetic, bike down the Heritage Trail. Fishing is allowed in the creek and river. Is wildlife your thing? Check out the River Trail, or walk above the wetlands on the boardwalk. If you look closely, you might even see an alligator.

The park comes to life in September with the Ocmulgee Indian Celebration. With hoop dancers, ancient games, and storytellers, it's a party and an education combined. In the spring, tour the park by lantern light after dark.

Around the park, you'll find both tent and RV camping at Lake Tobesofkee. A variety of lakes and rivers offer swimming and boating. In nearby Macon, look for museums, a cherry blossom festival, and killer sports.
