Peconic River Campgrounds
Solo Camping, Kayaking and Fishing
I created a YouTube video documenting my amazing day / overnight camping trip and adventure on the river.

I enjoyed this straight forward, no hassle campground and would recommend it to others. No contact check in. Just show up and find a tentsite. Exactly what I wanted. Enjoyed a day on the river kayaking. Made a fire in the fire pit. Cooked meals at my camp site. Had chairs and a picnic table present. Porta-potty was clean. Love this unique campground. Grateful to have it on Long Island. Also love the Peconic River.

The site was true to the description. It’s good to know that half of the campsites are on a hill, some of which have some flatness to them. It looks like they are trying to grade most of the sites to make them flatter. I went in March so there was only one port-a-potty but it was clean and had a record of cleaning schedule on the wall which looked to be weekly. Not many people were there while I was there and it had rained the day before so it was very wet and there were a lot of puddles and mud. Tyler came around the first night to just check in and offered me wood but silly me I thought the two bundles I brought would be enough, it wasn’t. Just buy more wood from him. Only issue I had was the water spigots were not on when I thought I saw it say that they were but I brought my own so not too big of a deal. I just wanted to wash dishes. I slept in my car but set up a pop up tent for shelter. Good to know, only some sites have a picnic table, others have those huge wooden spools that electric wire comes on as the table. There was a couple of plastic Adirondack chairs at each site. The fire rings were just big rocks and concrete chunks in a circle. Primitive but it worked out well. I would stay here again. Definitely thinking about it when it’s warmer. You will hear the highway cuz it’s not too far but that’s LI for you. It’s simple place but it’s nice. There was a “security guy” that stayed in a trailer the entire time I was there. I was by myself and I felt comfortable.

Never again
Upon arrival at the campground, I was greeted by a rather desolate scene featuring merely three other RVs, with not a soul in sight to welcome us or even to facilitate the check-in process. This lack of oversight extended to the point where payment became an afterthought, given the complete absence of any staff or campground representatives. Maneuvering through the area proved to be a nightmare due to the poorly planned layout of dirt roads, which frustratingly lacked any designated spaces for turning around a trailer, leaving us no choice but to awkwardly back out of dead-end paths. To add to the dismay, the ground conditions were deplorable; the terrain was so excessively saturated that we nearly became mired in mud, a predicament that could have easily been avoided with proper maintenance and oversight. Overall, my experience at this campground was far from the tranquil retreat one might hope for, marred by neglect and a glaring disregard for guest convenience and safety.

Tyler responds quickly, portable potty maintained well. Each site has a fire pit and chairs which was awesome. Lots to do near by.
