The park is a short drive to downtown Flagstaff, and on the way to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Moab and Durango. Stay the night or as long as you like! Drink in the hibiscus sunrises above the Painted Desert and relax into the long shadows of the San Francisco Peaks. The road to the property is about 0.8 miles and is considered dirt rugged. It will require you to so down under 5 miles an hour in a few places. You have the entire road to travel on and maneuver around the big bumps. I drive my car to the property ever time and don't have an issue if I slow down and go around large holes. If there is a recent storm in the area the road will be difficult to navigate.

This is “Stone Soup,” in honor of unique geology and a folktale where everyone brings something to make a whole greater than its parts. A hut, built with love during musical campouts, materials are recycled from building sites may be available, on a first-come first serve basis, but please don't count on anything being there but the open land and sky.
There are 40 acres to explore and camp on. You can follow the property boundaries, or just head straight out from the hut away from the road or on the other side of the road for at least half a mile and camp anywhere. You can drive all over the land in a regular vehicle and find your spot.
If you do use the hut, please leave it in better shape than you found it. Same with the land.
Here is my vision: Adventurous, creative, nature-loving kindred souls can converge on these 40 acres and bring what they need but also share with one another (the stone soup spirit). Although you do need to take in and out everything (water, food, bedding...) and there is no outhouse at the moment (dunes for some privacy, and thinly bury your waste), you can drive anywhere on the land and have what you need in your vehicle. It sometimes gets windy, so car-camping is recommended over tents, though you can also bring your RV.
Basically at the moment, this is an isolated, wild campsite, with total peace and quiet but where you bring everything. There is no running water, cooking supplies, or toilet. You may find firewood further down the road, and can have a fire anytime, but nothing is supplied. You will need to take your trash with you. The photos are not up to date and still show amenities that are not there. The hut may be available, but it is just a structure with no door.
Also note that there is no way to get there with Google maps/ GPS coordinate. I will send detailed directions if you book, but you probably want to arrive with some daylight.
If prepared to rough it, it's a gorgeous site with open sky, amazing views, stars, rocks, and silence.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The last one mile to the location is a bumpy dirt road. Imagine the worst road you’ve been on - this is slightly better and if this is the worst you’ve been on .. well then live a little.
In the past, some people complained about the dirt road not being in good shape due to rains. Please know that we are not responsible for or even aware of the road conditions to the property.
Unfortunately, the county has done no maintenance since the early 1990s and has no plans to. The quotes we have received to fix just the worst parts have been between $35,000 and $50,000.
Lastly, check the signs on the way in the area about fire danger and whether you are able to have a campfire or not. If you are allowed, please make sure to fully extinguish it.

A pretty special place to camp among the junipers and pinion pines on top of Howard Mesa. Enjoy amazing distant views by day, unbelievable night skies, and gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. You can also take in awesome views of the peaks to the east and even see the north wall of the Grand Canyon from the property.
There are currently three secluded camp spots, each hundreds of feet away from the other. No services are currently provided other than a designated stone firepit at each site, campers must bring everything they need and leave no trace. Please use the guest trash can located at the main gate. Normally accessible by any passenger vehicle, but significant rain may create enough mud to require 4WD.
The property is exceptionally quiet and clean, far away from city noise and pollution. It sits on the border of the Kaibab National Forest, where guests can walk through untouched old-growth forest. Numerous elk visit the mesa in late summer, mule deer are common, and there's lots of other wildlife to see.
This is a peaceful place to camp away from everything and still be able to visit numerous nearby attractions of every kind.

This is the place to be for Big Dark Skies. Horizon to horizon views, no neighbors, and no big cities nearby. As the listings say, also no amenities, and the dirt road is rutted (but not very long). It is very pleasant if you come prepared. I got some great milkyway photos with a DSLR and deep space photos through a telescope. There is just a hint of sky glow from Valle and from Flagstaff but it is very localized on the horizon.

We loved this space. Access to the Coconino forest trails right from here was absolutely fantastic for us and our pup, and we loved the common room! Very cozy and comfortable. The views were lovely and the night sky view was stunning (very low light pollution here!)

Easy access in and out. Surprisingly quiet for proximity to highway. Parking spots are level. More than enough room. Great sunrise and lots of stars. Grand Canyon is an easy 90 minute drive in the morning.

Desert Oasis was a perfect start to our adventure. The grounds were clean, Adam came out to check on us and answer some questions we had. Even though it is right off the freeway, the traffic noise was not overwhelming. They had a great rec area and plenty to do with young children.

I loved the quiet solitude of Clove and Keith's land. The sunsets and sunrises were beautiful. There is so much to say and enjoy about their land. I saw wild horses running across the plains. The landscape and peace that I encountered was worth the drive. I would defiantly go back and looking forward to it!!

There was something special about the GCO.
Basics first: Adam was super friendly and a great host; the property is quiet and clean. There is some road noise, but I ran a fan for white noise and used ear plugs and got great sleep.
The extras: the lodge is a great, eclectically decorated spot with sofas, a TV, pool table, among other cool items (nice space to have, especially when you're traveling in a van).
The views from Desert View are unobstructed and amazing. Don't miss the show when the sun sets! It literally changes minute to minute. The night skies are amazing as well. I can see why this is hollowed ground in the Native American culture.
Don't hesitate to stay here; I'll be back for sure when I'm back in that region.

Close to downtown Flagstaff in a quiet neighborhood. I was able to park and easily walk to meetings in town.
I have a high roof Ram Promaster van and easily fit into the space. Clean, quiet, and Jeannie was quick to reply to questions.

Visitor Center was closed due to Government shutdown.

The millennia old pueblo structures were quite fascinating to see. You really get a sense of how Native Americans lived in these villages. The walkways are pretty accessible, just be careful with small children around the structures as they are often hanging over cliff sides.

Wupatki National Monument is Worth Seeing
Wupatki NM is a kind of surprise. You have a cool drive through the monument with several stops. What was fascinating to me was how the native Americans found ways to use the natural materials at hand to build their housing (pueblos) that a 1000 years later is very identifiable. The landscape is desert but so close to Flagstaff which seems more temperate. Be sure to spend time in the pueblo located behind the visitor center. The NM can be experienced in about 2 hours.
