A fantastic campsite built by independent outdoor company @hetchyoutdoors This is a remote, private campground with a canopy, picnic bench and fire pit that relieves you from the crowds of hotels and RV campgrounds in the area. There are no predators or threats to worry about at night, just the the most stars in the sky you've probably ever seen. Views of the National Park to the south and only a 15 minute drive to the North Gate.

Location: We are located three hours east of Phoenix. Our campsites are only 10 minutes away from the nearest country store, where you can stock up on all of your essentials, or a 20-minute drive into the town of Snowflake, where you can grocery shop, bar hop, or have a delicious meal at one of the local restaurants. Arrival: Be mindful that it may be more difficult to locate in the dark. Please try to arrive while there is still daylight to ensure proper arrival and setup. The sites are located about ten minutes down a dirt road off the main highway. The road is a bit bumpy, but high-clearance and off-road vehicles are NOT required for arrival, but may be recommended if camping during the rainy season. Nearby Parks: Our campground is a one-hour drive from Petrified Forest National Park and a four-hour drive from the Grand Canyon National Park. The Space: We have the space to accommodate vehicles and groups of any size. We offer pull-through sites for RVs and campers, and a drive-through road for tents and car camping. Please note that it does get quite windy in this region.

Learn more about this land:This raw land property, right at the edge of the Petrified Forest National Park, gives you amazing views of and walking access into the park (with an already purchased entrance pass) to the ancient Puerco Pueblo and the stunning views of Newspaper Rock. Cell reception in the area is decent. I had access to TMobile data from the property the last time I was there though not all areas of the park have the same luxury. City folk (like it seems I have sadly become these days) often forget what a beautiful starry night sky can look like. One clear night here and you'll see a sky full of stars, the milky way, planets and maybe a shooting star. As a International Dark Sky Park, the parks nightscape falls on the Bortel scale of 3 (1 being darkest and 9 being brightest). For more info go to www.nps.gov/pefo/learn/nature/darkskies Outside of the Petrified Forest National Park in Holbrook, we recommend visiting Jim Gray's Petrified Wood Co. and the Navajo County Historical Society Museum. Nearest gas can be found at the Painted Desert Visitor Center or west down I-40 toward Holbrook at the Hopi Travel Plaza. In Holbrook, groceries can be found at Safeway and local restaurants include Camaleon Cafe, Butterfield Stage Co. Steak House and Mandarin Beauty and host of other Mexican and American restaurants. Trucks do come down Adamana Rd to the storage facility during the week though you probably won't hear or see them much. The train can be a bit loud and obnoxious for some (or a something exciting for the kids) depending on how frequently it passes through so ear plugs at night may be advised. Weekend Trip to Front Row Seat! Petrified Forest!

Absolutely loved the wide open desert space. From where I camped I never saw another person on Saturday night, on Labor Day weekend. Gorgeous desert views, sunset, sunrise. Directions were slightly confusing, but the host called me as soon as I messaged him, and stayed on the phone with me until I was in the right place. From the land, you literally look right into the national park, right at the place where newspaper rock is located. It was kind of neat to look at camp while visiting the rock. All of the reviews mentioning the train noise is accurate. The train is 200 yards from the site. I don't mention this as a complaint, just a reality.

Dope primitive camping and spot easy access with an suv or bigger. You can literally see petrified forest from the campsite he’s not lying— front row seats. The train being close was annoying but earplugs I think would make it fine. Read all the description and rules etc and you’ll be just fine. Brett gave great directions and was very responsive. Would def recommend to a friend

The site was as advertised - dry camping with no facilities, but the price was fair. The train tracks are right at the property boundary, but we were prepared based on the reviews and in the end it the train noise wasn’t as bad as we thought. There were few trains that came through the night but since neither of us had trouble falling back to sleep it wasn’t much of a bother. If you’re a light sleeper this may not be for you,

Looks like a road you shouldn’t be on. Train ran by every 15-30 minutes just 50 yards from the fence boundary for the Petrified forest park where this camp spot is. It’s a small drive to the Park’s north or south entrance. 2wd is just fine. Room to stretch. Trains were loud and awesome! For $15/night we will look it up again.

Weekend Trip to RV in Gods country

My husband and I had an amazing get away with friends at this property. The directions were clear,m and precise. Elena was prompt and very helpful with any questions. Justin, the property manager, welcomed us as we arrived and escorted us to our site. He familiarized us with property and gave us some great tips for trail access. We were very happy with the hospitality we received. The campground was secluded and peaceful, which is exactly what we were looking for. The mountain trails were easily accessible, as we enjoyed exploring them during the day. The night views are perfect for stargazing, it’s breathtaking how many stars were visible. We will definitely be return customers.

I fully planned to get to the site before dark, but that didn't happen. The directions are simple in the daylight but a little tricky in the dark. Brett was very gracious in helping me navigate. This is a dispersed camping site, which is exactly what I like --there was no one else around. I like trains, so while I do wish the horn were not so loud, I was fine with it. In fact, the whole experience felt like stepping back in time. The train is close, so the horn is quite loud --if you do not like that, then this is not the site for you.

We camped here overnight. The place was exactly as described. I’ve never seen so many stars in the night sky. Quiet, serene, & beautiful.

This park is a great stop when driving across the state, beautiful scenic drive with some great pull offs to visit. I don’t know if it’s a destination only but definitely something to add on a larger trip

This is a must-see. It’s the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert. You can find petrified wood everywhere! I also saw wild horses and elk. I did two hikes which I would recommend, Blue Mesa and Onyx Bridge. The trails are not well marked, you need to talk to a Ranger, and they will give you more detailed maps.
