We specifically set up the campsites to give as much privacy as possible. We hope you’ll come visit and soak up the bird songs, the wind in the trees, and the beautiful sunsets over the mountains. We have 20 acres of savannah grassland full of native plants and wildflowers and over 80 untouched acres full of awesome rock formations and creeks with waterfalls available for you to hike. There's a stocked fish pond for catch and release fishing and a gorgeous view overlooking the Cumberland Plateau and the Sherwood Valley. Experienced and beginner campers are welcome! We live on one side of the property, so we’re available to assist (setting up tents for the first few times is no joke!) or we’re happy to give you as much space and solitude as you need. We have three campsites available in the native savannah grassland, and one that is a "hike-in and choose your favorite spot in the woods" site. Camp Chet was founded with the purpose to help people encounter God through outdoor experiences. It over 900 acres of private forested land on Whitwell Mountain, which is part of the Cumberland Plateau in Southeast Tennessee. Take a hike on miles of trails comprised of forest paths, old wagon roads, or coal mining roads. If you find a chunk of coal on the ground feel free to take it home with you as a souvenir. If you are a history buff, you may be interested in discovering previous caretakers from the late 1800's and early 1900's in nearby cemeteries. The camp ground is on top of a mountain, and you will have to go through a locked gate and drive over a mile and half on a bumpy gravel/dirt road. You will be most comfortable in a vehicle that is suitable for rugged terrain. We are using the animals and permaculture techniques to repair this land to a vibrant, productive place. **Please note the address is 9665 SR 50, Pelham, TN 37301** The best part about this site are the views! Relax on the side of the Cumberland Plateau while overlooking Burroughs Cove and the Elk River. You can see the camp sites from the main road, so there will be some road noise. Sites 1/2 are hard/large graveled, tent camping will be very challenging, heavy duty tent stakes are highly recommended with mats/padding. There is an electrical box at each end of the hard graveled parking areas (Sites 1 and 2) with 20- and 30-amp plugs, plus 110v. If the power is not working, please check the panel and turn on/reset the breakers, many of our guests turn them off when departing. If you are at Site #2 and the steps above do not work, please check/do the same at the Site #1 panel (it is the master power source). Water is NOT available on site. NOTE: Depending on the time of year (warmer months only) a water container with a limited amount of NON-POTABLE water is on site for your use. Please plan on filling your water reservoir(s) PRIOR to arriving. There is an outhouse for all guests, picnic tables and fire rings for Sites 1 and 2. The camping area is fairly close to SR-50 so please expect to hear some road noise, more so in the winter months. The entrance/driveway is on a small incline, if you are traveling in a light vehicle and a heavy camper, it's best to maintain a slow and steady speed to the camp site (for almost everyone, this is not an issue). If you are towing a camper, we recommend the total length of the vehicle and the trailer not exceeding 30ft, There is not a significant place to "turn around" at the sites and novice drivers (not used to backing out of tight spots with longer rigs) may find this very challenging. There is a double gate that is usually closed, and latched so it stays closed, it is not "locked". The site is self-serve (not manned), Site #1 is to the left, Site #2 is to the right, and Site #3 is down the path past the outhouse at the bottom of the path. It is recommended that campers set up early for Site 3 (still daylight) to get an idea of the layout. Parking for Site #3 is by the shed at the main entrance and power is not available at the site.

Spaces are extremely level and there are good Satellite tv abilities. We have firewood on site and two stone fire pits. Nearby is a wonderful old grist mill, Tim's Ford state park, Tim's Ford lake, Jack Daniels Distillery and other attractions. We are also about 45 minutes from Huntsville, AL with the NASA Space and Science Center. Space #1 is closest to the road. Space #2 has a larger patio.  This retreat is the Perfect way to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, yet not too far away from essentials.  Hiking adventures nearby include University of the South Domain, Buggy Top, Walls Of Jerico and many more. 30 and 50 Amp pedestals at each site along with water and sewer hookups. Level sites. Due to health regulations, we only accept RVs with a pottie system as we do not offer bathroom facilities.

I stayed in the primitive during the weekdays and it was very quiet and relaxing with beautiful views. I was greeted upon arrival and Grant was very helpful by showing me around and offering helpful information about the area. I would stay here again if in the area.

Weekend Trip to The Ole Place

All the amenities of an RV resort, but actually in nature. You really couldn’t ask for more. If money were no object, I would’ve loved to book the entire campground, just because my neighbors staying in the cabin were loud and their bickering drowned out the beautiful sounds of frogs and bugs and birds. Ah well. I continue my pursuit of true solitude.

Great little campground! The host met us, even though we arrived late to make sure we could get in ok. Site 10 is a back in site up on the hill. They are expanding, but the construction didn't get in the way and the campground is very clean and tidy. Will be back!

I love how we can just pull into our spot with hookup being easy. Most places you have to back into them. This was easy peasy and a friendly place. Great location, super convenient to all the major sites in Chattanooga. The gem panning right next to the campground was a huge hit for the kids. The staff were super welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful area, nice picnic tables/fire rings on each campsite and private outdoor shower is a nice touch. Also having the barn incase of weather is nice. I will say theres no cell service up there for At&t which was nice. I do want to make mention there were some kind of kenneled dogs off in the distance barking randomly and is pretty loud, wasn't a big deal, just wanted to mention. VERY peaceful and beautiful.

Janna was the perfect host! My grandson loved camping near all the animals, and was thrilled to be invited to bottle-feed the Highland calf! He met donkeys, goats, cows, mini horses, bunnies, and chickens, and loved having the farm dogs follow him around. The site was perfect, although unlevel (bring lots of leveling blocks), with 30 amp electric, water, and sewer. A fire pit and picnic table completed the beautiful site under the magnolia tree. We can't wait to go back again, and highly recommend this farm campground!

Was a great remote spot to chill and wind down after some long days in chatanooga only complaint is some of the paths are quite rough I have a 2wd truck and I made it just fine no problems but would not advise for small cars a buddy of mine who drives a Subaru outback recommended the spot to me and he also was able to make it just fine.

My wife and I went out there and really enjoyed ourselves. The weather wasn’t great for our trip, but the accommodation was wonderful. I took a full-size crew cab truck and a pop-up camper. It was a little snug trying to get in, probably better for a smaller set up, however it was a great spot. The host was great willing to help with anything.

This was our groups second time staying at the homestead for an early spring camping trip. The hosts were wonderful and accommodating. They were kind enough to let us visit the animals and we had a wonderful time. It’s a beautiful property and we were all grateful.

Thank you for sharing this view with us!🧡 We loved our stay at Elkhead Overlook so much. It is next to the road, but it's a small enough road that it wasn't busy enough to bother us. The outhouse wasn't perfect but it was nice to have it! It is a bit windy up there but the view is worth it. Highly recommend.

Very peaceful property! Site 3 was an easy back in and faced a pasture and wooded bluff. Only a short drive to Tims Ford State Park and nice hiking. Would stay here again!
