We raise Scottish Highland cattle, goats, sheep, and alpacas on 90 acres of reclaimed coal mine land. We are using the animals and permaculture techniques to repair this land to a vibrant, productive place. We also have ducks, beehives, gardens and a 2200 square foot hoop-house, and we homeschool 3 boys as well. We have a farm store with a variety of soaps and personal care products, as well as farm products such as homegrown and ground cornmeal, granola made with our duck eggs, herbal teas and herbs, tanned sheepskins, etc. The farm tours are 1-1.5 hours, the "Junior Tour" is largely meet-the-animals, but also a stroll through the hoop-house, and whatever else may be available (ducklings, bottle feeding goat kids or alpaca crias, etc). The "Sustainability Tour" is with Caleb, and - based on your interests - is focused more on how we graze the animals, rainwater collection, solar set-up, farm management, etc. We gear this tour heavily toward individual interest, basically Q & A about what you want to know about small farm/sustainable/off-grid living.

Pine Forest Tent Sites Walk-in

99%
(87)
Tent site · Sleeps 15
This walk-in tent site is in a large mature pine stand on the highest point of our farm, with great views of the surrounding fields with animals, orchard, pond, and beehives. It has some open space as well as mostly full tree cover, lots of level tents spaces and hammock spots, two fire pits, and a composting outhouse.  Camping is on the top of the wooded hill, with parking a short walk of a few hundred feet at the bottom of the hill.  This campsite has no drive-up access, but is the most out of sight and sound of the main body of the farm. There is a picnic table that converts to two backed benches with a push-button mechanism, please message if you have trouble converting it but it is pretty straight-forward!

Meadow Tent Sites Drive-up

97%
(44)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 15 · Vehicles under 30 ft
These pull-up sites are in an open meadow/pasture, with a few trees for shade if needed. There are plenty of level areas for tents, and a fire ring with rock seating just yards from the parking spot.  There is a picnic table that converts to two backed benches with push-button mechanisms. We have a composting outhouse within walking distance. Depending on the timing, our mixed herd of Scottish Highland cattle, goats, sheep, and alpacas may be nearby - we use intensive rotational grazing so they move every day most of the year, including near/through the campsites (when un-occupied of course!) - and the fields with scattered berry bushes, trees and shrubs are great for scenic short walks and foraging depending on the season. We have quail, wild turkey, rabbits, and lots of other wildlife (I have been using the Merlin app recently and we have well over 50 species of birds!). These sites are the most remote on the farm, "way out back" for great privacy.

Shrubbery Tent Site Drive-up

100%
(14)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 12 · Vehicles under 30 ft
This pull-up site is on the edge of an open meadow/pasture, tucked into a small stand of pines and Autumn Olive shrubs. There are several level tent sites, as well as good hammock trees, and a fire ring with rock seating just yards from the parking area.  There is a picnic table that converts to two backed benches with push-button mechanisms. We have a composting toilet within walking distance.  There is a small creek down the hill, and depending on the timing, our mixed herd of Scottish Highland cattle, goats, sheep, and alpacas may be nearby - we use intensive rotational grazing so they move every day most of the year, including near/through the campsites (when un-occupied of course!). This site has the easiest access but is the closest to our house, several hundred feet away (although down the hill enough that it is out of sight), and you can see the side of our barn from the site. If you're looking for even more privacy, check out the Meadows Site, it is the farthest out at the back of the farm, although actually has better line-of-site to the house/central farm.
