This cabin was built by hand in the 1970s from white pine that was harvested and milled on-site. Our family purchased and rehabbed this beautiful cabin throughout 2021. Indoor and out, there are so many ways to relax and connect with loved ones during all seasons at Bundo's Cabin. Learn more about this land: Where the forest meets the field. Unplug and relax at Bundo's Cabin with extraordinary views of wildlife and endless outdoor opportunities. The modern yet cozy cabin has electricity and features a front patio, an external outhouse and outdoor rainwater bucket shower, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, a living area, and a sleeping loft with a reading nook. No matter the season, this cabin is a wonderful, cozy, and clean, place to relax and unwind. Feel free to roam around the 10-acre property and explore the 80 acres of state land to the north. Deer, foxes, coyotes, turkeys, owls, eagles and more are likely to be seen or heard. Explore, Banning, Moose Lake, and Father Hennepin State Parks which are all within 30 minutes, and return to the cabin to read, play games, listen to records, have a fire, and relax. The kitchen provides you with everything you need to prepare your meals including a refrigerator, small freezer, stove, oven, cookware, cutting boards, sink, seasonings, oil, and coffee. Water for washing is available from an electric pump faucet in the kitchen, and a brand-new outhouse is located steps from the cabin. The cabin is efficiently heated and cooled with a user-friendly heat pump and gets the cabin to your desired temperature very quickly. We are grateful to honor the Dakota and Anishinaabe people whose land we occupy by donating $10 from every booking to the Makoce Ikikcupi Land Recovery Project. This project is actively working to return the land to the indigenous people from whom it was stolen. You'll have this Hipcamp all to yourself.

Campfires allowed

Firepit, private. There is a firepit in the yard as well as a fire ring back at the campsite. Feel free to use either and there might be firewood stacked up around the property. Please pay attention to fire bans, keep an eye on your fire and fully extinguish it when you sleep or leave.

Toilet available

Pit toilet. There is a composting toilet located in the outdoor bathroom. Please only put human waste and the toilet paper provided into the composting toilet. There is also an outhouse located on the south end of the campsite.

Pets allowed

Off leash. Well behaved pooches can roam. There are coyotes and wolves in the area, so keep an eye on them. Don't bring your kitty.

Potable water available

Bottled water or jugs. The cabin is set up with an electric pump faucet. There are two additional water jugs in the bench at the kitchen table. This is tap water from St. Paul and is potable.

Bins available

Please take your trash and recycling with you as you leave. Do your best to leave no trace.

Cooking equipment present

Bbq, oven, fridge, cookware, dishware, cutlery, sink or other dishwashing station. Everything you need to prepare and enjoy your meals is located within the cabin. There is a firepit outside and a BBQ for the more adventurous chefs.

Picnic table present

A round patio table is located on the front patio. There is a picnic table and a rustic bar back at the campsite.

No showers

Bathe in lake. During summer months there is an outdoor shower on the back of the bath house.

No wifi

We do get cell service at the cabin.

Had a great time, the cabin is beautiful and cozy. Unfortunately she made me sleep on the couch but that's my fault, nothing to do with the cabin! Beautiful night view of the fireflies! Wish there was a washing bin, or maybe there was and we just didn't find it. Dog loved it also. Make sure to pack bug spray.

I really enjoyed my stay ay bundos cabin. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the property feels very private and secluded in the woods. Outhouse was impeccably clean and didnt stink. The property appeared as stated in the pictures, and it was so nice to be able to walk around and explore the nearby forest. The bedroom area was super cozy and the bed is comfortable. Only downside is the basic shower, but I think the setuo that is there now would be totally fine on a hot day. Would definitely recommend bundos cabin!

Very Pleased

Place was well equipped for my needs. The view was pleasant and the privacy was much appreciated. The mini split heat/ air was both quiet and efficient. Cabin was clean without the smell of strong unhealthy soaps. Lots of deer paths to follow into the woods. Fire put and the yard were nice too. 😊

This was an amazing trip. The cabin is so cozy and has everything you need for a successfully relaxing trip. The cubbies of books and all the misc special extras outside really make a difference! Highly recommend and will definitely be back! Thanks again!

Wonderful Fall stay

Amazing stay! Beautiful cabin. So much private land - you don’t ever see any neighbors and you are truly “away”. We watched movies outdoor on a projector and screen we brought, played games (lots of games in the cabin too), listened to the amazing record collection, played cards, made charcuterie boards, cooked, hiked in the nearby state park (gorgeous waterfall trail), sat in nature and enjoyed the changing leaf colors, and enjoyed the outdoor swing. Our dog was in 7th heaven there. Such a great getaway! Thank you Bundo! We will be back!

Great place to relax

I honestly think we went during the best time of the year. The colors were just breathtaking. We really had a great time unwinding and relaxing. The cabin is small and was perfect for the 2 of us. The cabin was stocked up with mostly everything needed. Although, there were lots of flys for some reason, especially upstairs, but no worries. We relaxed by the fire, roasting marshmallow while looking at the beautiful colors of the leaves, and getting that fresh air, without any loud noises or city distractions. You can't beat that.

a few snafus

We stayed at Bundo's cabin two years two years ago and loved it, and eagerly looked forward to going back. We reserved two days, and came up. However I had the wrong combination for the lock box-a message came to me, but i couldn't find it again two days later.. Was it from the hip camp website? I tried to get a hold of Jon, but he was in transit. We started for home. Jon did text us back with the correct lock box code, but we were too close to home. He offered us our money back, and we accepted. We were saddened... somehow it wasn't clear how to get the information. I am not a digital native, and am as fluent with technology. I am not assigning blame: I need to improve my tech skills, but I think that Hip Camp could consider how to work with seniors. Perhaps the host could have an alternate person to contact when he needs to be in transit. Well, best of luck to all of you. Not sure if we are going to try hip camp again. Perhaps we are not the intended audience.

Perfect late summer weekend

I loved everything about Bundo's cabin in the woods, but especially how secluded it was. I couldn't hear anything but the wind in the trees and the chittering of the squirrels. Yet it's so close to towns and the state park and lots of cool things to see. The cabin has such a cozy vibe too, i even felt pampered. I will definitely be back!

Clearly a labor of love.

Group trip

Staying at Bundo's wasn't what I was expecting. It was better! Staying in the cabin for two nights it was clear that Jon put a lot of time, care, and love into the construction and maintenance of this place. It's immediately evident that he rents out the cabin to share the wonders of the outdoors with people, not just to make a quick dollar, which made the stay feel even more special. Great experience. Would definitely stay again sometime.

We loved our stay at Bundo's Cabin! The location was nice and secluded. We enjoyed the table outside the cabin so we could play games and eat our meals outdoors. Our dog loved to roam around on the property! The cabin had cute touches and the record player was fun to listen to different music. The bed was comfortable! We would love to make it back another time!

A little slice of heaven

We had a GREAT time spending a long weekend at Bundo’s Cabin for my 40th birthday!! Myself, my dog & 2 friends spent the weekend enjoying all the space, Banning State Park hiking, cooking, board games, bonfires and the crystal clear starry nights. My dog LOVED all the space to play with his frisbee and it truly was private (I have a reactive dog, so this was really important to me, and it was everything and more)!! Host was super responsive! Everything we needed was there. We can’t wait to come back!

We loved our stay this weekend! My oldest daughter saw a snake (very small), my youngest had a blast playing on the swing, and I really enjoyed listening to the vintage records. Would recommend to anyone who is ok with using an outhouse.

Absolutely amazing time and an amazing space. Exactly what I am always looking for. Seclusion and a space where my dog can free range and where me kid and I could be at peace. The host was incredibly helpful and responsive and the cabin is stocked with mearly everything you could need or want. Can't wait to visit again. Thank you for such a beautiful stay.

Best serene space to reset at

From first to last impressions this place is a rare beauty of serenity, good vibes and comfort. Everything is so thoughtfully organized and shared. The pictures don't do it justice, the space and surroundings are much better in person if that's even imaginable. Thank you, Jon for the wonderful accommodations. It's heaven on earth.

Restful, private, and bucolic.

Really great little cabin in a really beautiful and very private setting. If you want to be off on your own and have a beautiful view of a meadow out your front door flanked by woods on all sides then you will love this place. We have really liked camping in campgrounds/state parks but even in hike-in sites you can have people relatively close to you. This location you really feel like you are on your own.

This is a gorgeous area and we were lucky enough to see both a rainbow and the northern lights during our stay. The cabin is perfect; it looks small from the outside but the space provides everything you need. We hiked at Banning and really enjoyed our time.

Peaceful Getaway with the pups

This was our first Hipcamp experience and we absolutely loved it. The cabin is well put together, we loved going through the records. Everything you need to cook with is there. Firewood is provided. My husband and I went with our 3 dogs and they loved the open space to run and hike the trails. We will definitely be back.

This is our 2nd time staying here and we love it! It's so peaceful and the cabin is cozy and comfortable. Added bonus of about a foot of snow made it so pretty! We grabbed lunch at the Squirrel Cage which was decent, did some hiking, and enjoyed stopping at Moos Lake Brewery. Happy to have found this place and would highly recommend!

Beautiful cabin

The house is beautiful and perfect. We marveled at the craftsmanship it took to build and appreciated the beautiful choice of furnishings. It slept two adults, two kids and a dog comfortably. Cooked every meal in the kitchen, enjoyed drinking pour-over coffee, playing games and listening to records. We hiked around the property and the state land, and went to banning state park. Also stopped at Tobie’s bakery on the way back to the Twin Cities for some amazing donuts. The kids enjoyed s’mores by the fire pit.
