Camping on Chef's property was a unique experience. As you might expect, he is a great cook, and it is rare to have a hot meal served to you when camping. It can be a bit of a challenge to coordinate the timing if you don't know when you might be getting into camp, but things worked out OK. He is a knowledgeable host with a clear passion for the outdoors.
There are no regular camp sites in white sands NP, so this is about as close as you can get and there are other recreational possibilities in the nearby mountains. Chef has great plans for improvements to his site, such as a shower building, and he has a glamping tent available, but for now I had to make do with a shared table in contrast to other hosts that tend to offer individual picnic tables. There is a bathroom tent, but fires were not permitted when I was there. Much of the camping area is bare dirt.
When I was there in winter the weather was mild with some wind, but I am told it can be more windy at times.
Noise is a concern, there is noise from the road although it will die down late at night, noise from trains, and noise from roosters owned by nearby neighbors. On the positive note, I was able to observe a rare missile test at night with an interesting exhaust tail. Bringing ear plugs may help.

Great private campsite just a short drive from downtown Taos. Has a little setup for a tent, fire pit, and area for kitchen / cleaning with a port a potty as well.
Don was super responsive and even gave us some firewood to make a lovely fire at night. Would definitely stay again! I recommend getting to the site during the day as it’s a dirt road and would be a bit tricky to find at night- Don helped with directions as well.

It was amazing! I loved the stay. The beds are very clean everything its well in organized along with a beautiful classic layout. The outside view is sooo beautiful during the sun rise and dawn. I really enjoyed it and me and my friend where so happy! And the bed is a very good size for two people to! And its soft. Toilets are clean and work well just like any home or public place

An awesome site extremely close to Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, Alamogordo, and White Sands. It was a great combination of remote and private while still being a short drive to any destination. The site provided a picnic tabe, fire barrel, hammock rack and portable toilet. There were excellent views of the sunset, sunrise and night sky. I highly recommend it and will be returning on future trips.

Perfect stay for one or two nights! Tara is responsive in communication and was very welcoming upon my arrival. Nice quiet location on a dead end street, Clean, inviting and spacious room with a very comfy bed. I definitely hope to return next time I’m in ABQ.

Nice location. Convenient to Santa Fe. Neat juniper chaparral habitat. Great sky viewing and some scenic rock formations nearby. Birding is probably excellent spring-fall. Was pretty good for winter.

Dakota was very quick to respond to my messages. We arrived after dark to a very neat and tidy site, with a very nice and level grass area to pitch our tents. The location is a working, active vineyard, and if we had had more time I would have loved to check out more of it and the wines they offered. We were just on a quick one nighter on our way to Arizona. The bathroom was very clean, the firepit was large and generous; the camping was amazing with coyotes howling all through the night. A very well kept secret just off the beaten path. Thanks for the cool spot, Dakota!

Absolutely amazing! Stunning scenery, hospitality, and accommodations.
Owners were wonderful! We were coming late and they helped us find our location via text and directions. Offered to take care of some garbage so we didn’t have to drive with it. They also have the sweetest little dog ever! Came up said hi and went back to what he was doing super interesting.
The site itself was gorgeous. We were able to star gaze and point out consolations very easily.
Overall a wonderful stay. Be prepared! It gets cold at night and hot during the summer.

Close to Bosque del Apache, 13 miles down same road. Close to restaurants in San Antonio. Sites have full hookups. Owners do sell firewood. 2nd time staying here and would/will stay again. Good jumping off place. We did day soak in Tor C at Riverbend resort about an hour away and visited Elephant Butte.
Lots of wild areas and off roading around Socorro which is close by. Decent views of surrounding mountains and Cranes flying by all day long. Great if doing Festival of Cranes at the wildlife refuge.

We just returned from a fantastic RV trip! The entire campsite was wonderfully serene, offering a genuinely peaceful escape. The setting was stunning, with beautiful scenery surrounding us everywhere we looked. It was also an extremely easy place to set up our RV, which made the whole process smooth and stress-free. If you're looking for a relaxing, beautiful, and hassle-free nature getaway, this spot is truly nice and highly recommended. Also loved hearing the history lesson about the land that's was really cool.

Where to go
Central and North Central New Mexico
New Mexico's Central and North-Central regions are home to many of the state's most popular cultural attractions, and both Albuquerque and Santa Fe are here. Area highlights include Bandelier National Monument and Petroglyph National Monument, as well as numerous pueblos. The most famous of these—the Taos Pueblo—is a UNESCO World Heritage site that has been continuously inhabited for over 1,000 years.
Northwest New Mexico
Cultural attractions abound in Northwestern New Mexico. Highlights include the Zuni Pueblo and the Acoma Pueblo—both the Jicarilla Apache Nation and the Navajo Nation call this region home. Fans of the paranormal won't want to miss Roswell, the site of the famous Area 51 UFO sightings and a de facto pilgrimage site for all things alien.
