Cozy, well-thought out and ideally located private getaway. Janice, the host, is extremely thorough and the entire stay was very well thought out. A private, pristine, and magical venue conveniently located near the Mendocino coast and the main destinations. Very impressed by this spot and would highly recommend .

This sweet spot is even better than I expected! All the good reviews and how nice it is and how so many details are covered are true, and more! I can’t say enough about how cozy and clean it is, and even though you are right behind the main house it feels very private. Jan is so nice and accommodating, but not at all intrusive. This is my favorite place I’ve stayed yet! We will definitely be back.

Just such a lovely place to stay! Appreciated the thoughtfulness throughout the cabin - supplies are bountiful and intuitive for the occasion. It’s true what the other reviews say, this bed is seriously comfortable! Also I enjoyed reading Janice’s narrative on the cabin - it’s a real labor of love and a great example of what you can create with community and reusable materials.
The location couldn’t be better if you want to meander along the Mendocino coast. Easy trail and beach access. The Pygmy Forest trail is super fascinating and is a short drive away. Also an unforgettable hour’s drive to Orr Hot Springs. The town of Mendocino and Ft. Bragg have good options, but don’t forget to check the guest book because Janice has you covered as well with an exhaustive list of restaurants, complete with physical menus. I don’t know why but I really loved this display of thoughtfulness.

It was a great escape from the daily hustle & bustle of life!
It was peaceful and quite. I felt very safe.

It is just gorgeous! Both the charming studio and the beautiful location. Janice is so lovely, and put out a grill and stove when I said I was hoping to cook outside. There are so many little touches in the space: remote-controlled candle lights, bubble bath for the clawfoot tub, extra blankets, etc. Highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I had originally reserved the House of Trees for 2 nights, but we loved our stay so much that we extended it for 1 additional night and we're SO glad we did. The home is cozy, quiet, and inviting. It's the perfect stay for a two people wanting to explore the area for a few days and have a comfortable retreat at a good price. Also, the unique amenities (i.e. towel warmer, bathrobes, and bubble bath soap) are an extra special touch that make you feel taken care of. We recommend to other couples and we will definitely stay here again if we are in the area!

Janice has created such a sweet little cabin getaway. The bed was SUPER cozy, the tub felt luxurious and all the little details made it feel like such a treat!

This is such an awesome stay for those who are experienced campers all the way to first time glampers. A comfortable space with plenty of amenities and an awesome grill! Albion and surround areas are awesome too. I recommend princess seafood and glass beach! Thank you again

The best part of this stay was how many amenities Janice provided for us. You could show up with just your clothes and a toothbrush and have everything you'd need for your trip. This included dishes and silverware, tea and mugs, plenty of rags and glasses for any bartending you plan on doing. The grill was great to use, the (bubble) bath was amazing, and the bed was soft and clean. Highly recommend!

House of Trees
It can be hard to feel like you're getting away from it all while still having everything you need, but this place did just that. It was so peaceful, cute and comftorable. One of the best beds I've slept on while traveling. And the couch converted into a small bed which was perfect for my 11 year old daughter. It somehow fit all the essentials and more! Jan was the sweetest. Would have stayed another night if it wasn't already booked.

We loved this cabin! It was SO well stocked - everything from cooking condiments to utensils to dinnerware. It even had a towel warmer which was such a luxury; I’d never seen one before not even in a 5-star hotel. You can tell Janice is so thoughtful with the details which really made this a memorable, 5-star experience. Definitely coming back if we are ever back in the area.

Janice has created such a magical place. The thought alone that went into the creation of this hidden gem is beyond words. My partner and I absolutely loved cooking outside, sitting by the fire and sipping some wine.
The bath tub was also amazing! It gives older, rustic feels with all the modern amenities you need.

We loved our stay at the House of Trees. Janice is an amazing host . The property is beautiful and is central to many State Parks in the area. We had a great time hiking and enjoying the different beaches during our stay. Great restaurants in the area so you don’t really need a stove. The grill is a nice option to have. Janice was kind enough to have coffee and cream for us in the fridge. It made our mornings even more special surrounded by the property’s amazing trees and garden. We are already planing a trip to come back next year.

House of trees was the perfect get away for my trip to the Mendocino/Fort Brag area! It was so cozy, the bed/linens were incredibly comfortable and it had everything you needed to feel to enjoy a night in. I appreciated the little touches like the teas, candle lights, bubble bath and towel warmer. Janice has really thought of everything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Would stay again for sure!

house of trees was absolutely amazing! beautiful little cabin perfect for two the grill and fire pit were amazing to have, definitely recommend going in spring when there are no fire bans to experience a good grill and fire pit. my girlfriend and i would definitely go back in a heart beat! janice was super friendly, great host!

This cabin is absolutely amazing, and the host is fantastic! It’s super clean, and the bedding is of great quality. There’s also quite a collection of teas, which is a delightful bonus if you’re into it. I would definitely recommend it!

My partner and I stayed at House of Trees on a rainy March weekend after having to change our plans to go backpacking due to weather. House of Trees was a delightfully cozy place to stay for our visit to Mendocino. Janice was very friendly and helpful, the bed was super comfortable, bathtub fit both of us, and overall the place was tastefully appointed and convenient.

Janice’s cabin was absolutely incredible! It was the perfect retreat for a weekend getaway. The cabin was warm and inviting, with an unbelievably comfortable bed and thoughtful details that truly set it apart. From a fully stocked kitchen with utensils, a grill, and a toaster oven, to luxurious touches like a towel warmer, cozy robes, and a charming clawfoot tub for ultimate relaxation—she’s thought of everything! We had a great getaway at the treehouse. There was so much attention to detail and care in the interior design and amenities, from excellent lighting to electric blankets and heated towels to a variety of teas to choose from. The host was also very kind to us when we lost the key.
