We are a 107-acre forest and farm animal rescue in Vermont. Sleep with the sheep, alpacas, donkeys, and potbellied pigs when you pitch your tent or park your camper on our farm. 2026 CAMP FOR FREE WEEKENDS: MAY 8 to 10 and SEPTEMBER 18 to 20. Come for the weekend, volunteer, and make a real difference in the lives of the rescues. To participate: (1) message us with your email, or (2) sign up on the event page on our Facebook profile. ALL SITES HAVE A 2-NIGHT MINIMUM ON WEEKENDS. OVERVIEW OF OUR SITES: Reserve the Group Site and stay in the middle of the action, no group required. Co-located sites share a community fire ring, making it easy to meet new friends. No tent or RV? Spend the night in The Greenhouse, a real working greenhouse that doubles as a unique glamping experience. Want more privacy? Choose one of our two Tent Deck sites, Buddha North or Grandmother Pine, each with a picnic table, private fire ring, and commercial-grade park grill. Tucked into the forest near the animals, they feel remote while still being less than a 5-minute walk from your car. Looking for something more spectacular? Hike a half-mile to the Big Sky Tent Deck and enjoy an incredible vista. Check-in time: 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please arrive within this window. EXTENSIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR $15 IN ADVANCE OR $30 ON ARRIVAL. ----- NEED GEAR? We rent tents, propane stoves, water containers, cast iron grill baskets and griddles, an Anker Portable Power Station, and a kerosene heater. ----- NEED SUPPLIES? We have charcoal and propane. Sleep with the sheep, alpacas, donkeys, potbellied pigs, and rabbits when you pitch your tent on our Vermont Farm!  An outhouse, community grill, and community fire pit will give you a sense of seclusion, even though your tenting area is only a 5-minute walk from where you park.   Our group site accommodates from 1 camper to 16 campers! Don't have a tent?  Trying to squeeze three people into your two-person tent?  Just want some additional space?  We have four-person tents for rent! Use the stile to access a path for a 30-second walk up to our open-concept outhouse (complete with a 15-foot clear roof).  It may end up being one of your favorite spots to hang out! The Big Sky Tent Deck is our most popular site! It's no wonder: you get to experience all the perks of backcountry camping without the long hike in.  Sweeping pastoral views of the Vermont countryside await you less than 6/10ths of a mile from your car. The site includes an 8 x10 floating tent deck, commercial park grill, Adirondack chairs to kick back and enjoy the view, a fire ring, and a picnic table.  (And yes, volunteers carried everything up there on their backs). Don't have a tent? Are you trying to squeeze three people into your two-person tent? Do you just want some additional space? We have four-person tents for rent! Important:  this is a hike-in site up a hill. This is a great place to commune with nature, deepen your relationship, and embrace solitude. We think it is worth the extra effort! ---------- When you register, we will email you our 50-plus-page Orientation Guide, which includes directions to the rescue, local resources, attractions you won't find on Google, nearby hikes, and more (including the WiFi password). ---------- The Big Sky Tent Deck now features a robust, comfy, hygienic backcountry toilet for your pooping pleasure with a spectacular view. We think it is the best place to poop on the planet! Your backcountry toilet is comprised of four components: 1. a portable composting toilet which you check out on arrival and return clean on departure, 2. a biodegradable collection bag, 3. an open-aire wooden structure, for privacy and concentrated use, and 4. a composter at your site. The portable composting toilet has no separating function for liquids and solids and is foolproof to set up and use. It is designed to give you the comfort of a home toilet: with an open size of L 17.3 * W 15.7 * H 16.1 inches and a seat diameter of 11.8 * 9.1 inches, providing a wider and higher seating area that can support up to 400 lbs. It has a foldable design that easily collapses to a mere 5.5 inches in height. It is provided as a kit, complete with supplies you need for a 2- to 3-day stay, that you check out when you arrive. Don't have a tent?  Trying to squeeze three people into your two-person tent?  Just want some additional space?  We have a four-person tent for rent that fits perfectly on the tent deck! In addition to a solid tent deck complete with tie-offs to secure your shelter, your site includes a picnic table and your own private fire ring!  Plus, for your epicurean delight, cookout on a commercial-grade park grill!  Nearby, our open-concept outhouse (complete with a 15-foot clear roof) may end up being one of your favorite spots to hang out! This site was developed in 2022 to provide an inexpensive camping option. Pitch your tent in a private, secluded setting with your own picnic table fire ring. The terrain is mostly level and rugged but manageable. (Please keep this in mind so you arrive with reasonable expectations and are prepared to give a good rating for what you paid for. Paying less than $3.50 a night per person for four people to camp and then complaining about what you got for your fourteen quarters isn't helpful to others considering this option and doesn't embrace the spirit of this site. WE HAVE UPGRADED FROM A PICNIC TABLE TO A BAR-HEIGHT HDPE DINING SET: A square outdoor bistro table with 2 armless bar chairs. ---------- Connect with nature all around you when you sleep in our 8-foot x 14-foot greenhouse.  This functional greenhouse serves as a special accommodation in the Summer and Fall seasons. Made from recycled windows, magical location is situated away from other campers, so you will feel like you are camping alone (and you can relax in the glass-enclosed space without worrying about prying eyes!). Nearby, our open-concept outhouse (complete with a 15-foot clear roof) may end up being one of your favorite spots to hang out when you are not in the greenhouse! This is a great option for someone(s) who wants to rough it and be outdoors but not rough it totally and be outdoors completely.  The top has open spaces for venting the warm temperatures that could build up during the day. We have it for rent, from cast iron grill baskets and griddles to make cooking over a charcoal grill or fire a breeze to tents to 1- and 2- burner propane stoves to tarps to water containers. We had a wonderful time visiting the animals and looking at the stars from Willoughby rescue. There was lots of fun to be had nearby and on site. We left a night early because we wanted to avoid the rain, but loved the eclectic and adventurous stay at the Thoreau Stream campsite (not recommended for the faint of heart/folks with less camping experience). It is a short but rugged trek from the parking spot, but the solitude is lovely. Definitely recommend sharing an apple slice with the donkeys, they are very soft if you are gentle.

Such a cool spot! The area is absolutely beautiful, plenty of spots nearby to explore. We loved falling asleep under the stars and waking up to animals grazing nearby. Also, it rained and the greenhouse kept us and all our gear DRY. We would definitely stay here again when in Vermont. Don’t forget to bring carrots and apples for the rescues!

I stayed in the glass greenhouse for my 2 night stay and it was beautiful! I love that the animals are roaming around, genuinely friendly, and very ready for attention, but also seemed to know boundaries. I still can’t get over how beautiful Scott’s refuge is and I didn’t even explore all of it. Scott was helpful and friendly when I met him. It felt very private and safe. I am actually still not over how amazing my experience was during my stay. 100% planning on staying again.

Scott was super accommodating, despite recovering from an injury. He made sure I had everything I needed to stay. The packet that Scott provides was very informative as well as had additional fun things like a scavenger hunts in it. The animals were wonderful and it was fun to be able to spend the night in their company.

Post was super nice, animals were such fun to feed and pet. We stayed at North Buddah which was nice and secluded. The campers before us left some trash at the site which we packed out. The site feels very remote and is up a little bit of an incline to get to. Felt like we were deep in the woods when in reality the farm was right around the corner. It was nice to have the peacefulness. My husband and I stayed overnight so we could be close to the girl Scout camp to pick up my daughter. We came back to the farm with her and she was in hog heaven. If I find myself in the neck of the woods again, I would definitely stay here.

We had such a nice time staying at Scott’s farm. The animals were an absolute highlight so sweet. It is a bit of a steep walk up to the campsite so make sure to pack light and don’t bring any fancy shoes because there is animal manure on the ground near the main area. Apart from that the campsite was clean and Scott was very friendly and inviting. Totally recommend. Ps bring tick spray there are some in the woods!

Immediately from the moment I arrived at the property Scott was extremely impatient and rude, a horrible first impression. I made a last minute reservation as I was traveling down the road and he was mad because I didn’t read the 50 page orientation before I arrived. The property doesn’t look like the photos. Everything is horribly overgrown with tall weeds. The animals were super friendly BUT there’s literally feces covering the entire property as soon as you step out of the car. Campers were pitching their tents next to huge piles of donkey feces. Chicken poop all over the place it’s absolutely disgusting and unclean. I stepped in a huge pile of feces while trying to get to my campsite. Everything is very hard to get to including the toilet. You have to crawl up and down ladders to get to the toilet. All the wooded campsites are totally overgrown with tall weeds. No showers which really should be available for a large campground. The very last day of my trip we had a disagreement where I told him he was being dishonest with me and he got so angry he told me he resented my statement and wanted me off the property immediately. So unprofessional, don’t fall for this scam of a campsite. The animals are just there to reel people in.

What a wonderful property, and excellent host. You will be treated with a warm smile and a welcoming demeanor. Not only by Scott but also the animals at the rescue. A short hike to your campsite into the forest gives you the perfect amount of privacy and quiet. Beautiful setting, perfectly marked trails, fun little stuff along the way. 10/10 recommend staying here.

Perfect first camping trip for a toddler! Our child loved coming down to the farm from the camp site each morning to say hello to the donkeys. The Buddha north site was quiet and beautiful! We loved the evening firefly show, and evening heard owls in the night. Highly recommend!

It’s not clearly advertised that the site is not just a walk-up, but a hike-to. The trail leading to it is also not well maintained, overgrown and flooded. There are food lockboxes at the site, but you’re not allowed to use them, because that’s where the host keeps his liquor. One could stay at an AMC campsite with more amenities for a third of a cost.

RV camping was perfect. Scott is exceedingly accommodating and kind when unforeseen issues pop up during your trip, of which we had a few to no fault of the farm’s. Our RV ran great off of his 30 amp extension cord provided to us and he made sure to ask multiple times if we needed anything from him. The animals are so well loved and content, as all the other reviews boast. We were greeted by a very sweet mother daughter donkey duo and there were friendly pigs, one who loved belly rubs. If you are here to hike, this is your property. On the last day of our trip I did a trail run while waiting for an issue to be resolved with our camper up to the main overlook. It is such a treat, but bring your tick spray for the summer months. The forest holds all sorts of cool things to scout for (statues, signs, and lots of rest areas to take breaks) as you enjoy the dense wilderness. I would absolutely book again, simply magical!

We loved staying in the Greenhouse! It was a rainy weekend (12th rainy Saturday in a row?) and it kept us perfectly dry. Beautiful location with the sweetest donkeys and pigs! We had a blast.

We had a wonderful experience at the Willoughby Farm Animal Rescue! The view at our campsite was amazing. Scott was very helpful and the campsite had everything we needed to make it a comfortable stay. Just be warned that it is a bit of a walk to get to the tent site so we found it helpful to have everything packed up in our backpacks.

Cozy farm with friendly animals! Scott greeted us and helped us get setup. We walked all of the trails (even the steep one up to the overlook) - views were amazing and spent the days feeding the animals. If you like animals and are comfortable with them hanging around your camp, then you’ll love this hidden gem. Animals were calm and fun to watch (especially the Guineafowls)

Willoughby Animal Rescue Farm was a great camping experience. A group of us booked three sites: Greenhouse, Buddha North, and Big Sky. There were no other groups staying at the farm at the same time as us so we mainly hung out and cooked at the greenhouse site and set up tents at the communal tent site as they were located closer to the car. We camped at Big Sky the first night. The sun set was amazing and is a must see. It is definitely worth the short hike (the hike is not difficult if you’re a hiker, non-hikers might think otherwise). The animals were super cute. The donkeys, pigs, and ducks greeted us upon arrival and anytime we needed to get something out of the car. They loved the apples and carrots we fed them! The sheep and alpacas roam around the communal tent site and greenhouse areas. Scott also put together a scavenger hunt which encourages guests to explore the property. Definitely a unique experience!

Pretty much great from the start! Good directions, friendly host, site was amazing. It IS a pretty steep hike to the site, wish I had packed lighter, but an amazing view, private, quiet (there was some farm equipment noise, plus the rooster needs to learn that its job is to crow at dawn…then stop. Or it should crow the hours.) Anyhow, big thanks to the Willowby Farm Rescue for a wonderful visit!
