Austin Dam Memorial Park

Great spot! Directions that were sent were perfect. Sites were clearly marked, which was really appreciated since we pulled in at night in the rain. Firewood was delivered to our site and under a tarp (again, super appreciated) We had a great stay. Secluded, we didn’t have to speak to anyone the whole 2 days we were there. Stars were beautiful at night. Also, had decent cell service, which I was surprised by. No frills, just nature.

Nice spot for group tent camping

Did some drive-up tent camping here with some friends in October and had a great time! We had site 8 which was nice and secluded with a wonderful view of the autumn colors. Easy access to hikes to the old paper mill and Austin Dam right from our campsite. Porta-potty was right nearby and sparkly clean. And we had full cell service too (T-Mobile).

This is probably my 5th or 6th stay here and our experience has and still is amazing! Alvie was great and very helpful. He told us about the events going on at the park and what to watch out for in terms of wildlife and also gave us great suggestions on where to hike. Camp site was very clean and well maintained. My group and I would definitely be returning again in the near future!

The perfect camp spot!

This is literally our favorite place to camp, if I didn't have a home, I could live the rest of my life right there. The land is meticulously kept with so many hiking trails to explore. The dam Ruins and paper mill are fascinating with much information posted about the history. The bathroom is well kept and stocked as well as the wood and ice for purchase. The privacy and size of the site is truly a bargain. The stars out there are comparable to the views at cherry springs. We had a lovely reconnection with nature over the weekend and I thank the hosts for keeping places exactly like this existing! We'll definitely be back again soon.

Great place you can hear a little traffic but you can’t see it. There was no one else camping when we stayed so it was pretty secluded. A little pricey for just some back woods land that’s the only downfall I’d say it’s worth like 12 dollars

Excellent spot. Plenty of open space! We had room for two massive tents, a 13' canopy, two large hammocks, and two cars with so much room to spare. The amount of wood we were provided was absolutely bonkers - I paid for two bundles per day and we EASILY had enough for two additional days if we wanted. Also, literally the CLEANEST Portopotty we have ever used. 10/10 camping experience

The park was nice and communication was excellent. We really disliked the road noise and they were working on it the one day so we woke up to construction beeping noise at 7 AM. The signs for the campsites were difficult to see. We had difficulty finding our site (partly my fault) and chose to stay at another since no one else was there. The stars were absolutely amazing there. The price was very good and there was clean public toilets. The noise was just to much for me to go back.

Excellent escape to nature

Wonderful experience, private unique wooded and/or field sites, with still easy access to water and facilities. Great hardwood firewood! There is some road noise, but wasn't too loud or distracting after dark. Make sure you enter the park entrance via the main road/highway, instead of the ATV back entrance Google maps tried to take us down, and be sure to visit the historical broken dam and welcome center. It's the central location for water, firewood, gift shop, and hiking map.

We had a wonderful camping experience here! The tent sites were clean, spacious, and surrounded by beautiful nature. The campground was quiet and peaceful at night, and the fire pits made it easy to cook and relax under the stars. Bathrooms and facilities were well-maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful. A perfect spot for anyone who enjoys camping in a tent—highly recommended.

Such a treat compared to stateparks

As much as I love our state parks here in Pennsylvania, I've got to say, Austin Dam was glorious. Our site (1) was within VAGUE eyesight of our single neighbor's at site 2 (as in, their campfire was a distant dot between the trees) with no one else around whatsoever. There was so much space that you get to "choose your setup" with more than one fire ring, cooking setup, several picnic tables, benches, and a beautiful little creek running right behind the site. Drinking water, firewood, ice, Wi-Fi, charging was available at the visitor center even after closing for the night (self-service), but keep in mind it's a good 5-7 minute drive down a dirt road to get there from site 1. We arrived after dark, and while the setup was a bit confusing, the instructions sent from the host Alvy were top notch and we got setup and settled in good time. We paid to have firewood delivered to our site in advance, and it was more than we could burn in a night, stacked neatly with a tarp covering it waiting for us. The next morning we went back to the visitor center to get some information and meet Alvy (he was SO nice and enthusiastic) before we left. So glad we stayed here! We've been gushing to all our camping friends already. The ONLY, and I mean ONLY bummer is that the toilets are portapotties. They were clean, and I certainly can't expect them to dump a bunch of money into actual plumbed bathrooms, but that's just something to keep in mind. All in all, amazing stay and we WILL be back!

The location of this site is ideal. Private, yet close to the memorial park and its amenities. Plenty of flat, grassy space for several tents. Swimming in the creek was nice.

I stayed in site 1 with my travel trailer. My sight was clean and level, with the creek on the backside, with a pool that my dog and I enjoyed wading in. I have Solar power and did well, shut down 1 night after 2 cloudy days, but was up early in the morning. The memorial section of the park was clean with a large open area an campsite's. I was confused coming off the highway, Alvi was there and directed me to the left and pointed out my options to park, and guided me into the spot. I would definitely recommend a stay at Austin Dam

Holiday camping with dogs

Spent one night here on the 4th of July to avoid the fireworks for our dogs. Site 8 was awesome- very spacious, came with 2 different grill tops, grill brush, clothesline, bench and picnic table. The sites are pretty spaced out and no one was camping at the site next to us anyway, so it was for the most part quiet. The only complaints I have were we could hear the traffic the whole time as the road was pretty close to our site and we could also hear a shooting range nearby, which my dog didn't love. But the park itself is amazing- we walked the path around the ruins and also the path to the paper mill was behind us as well, so we explored that. We were so intrigued by the history of the area that we even bought a book at the gift shop! Shout out to Alvy for being kind enough to leave our firewood at our site and gracious enough to explain a little bit of the history of the dam.

My friends and I really loved tent camping here! The camp is very big and spacious, and I loved the wood benches and table. The creek was so beautiful, perfect for a cool down as well. I got wood to bundle with the trip and it was such a generous amount! There was so much to explore, very relaxing, perfect shade covering, all in all amazing experience. Highly recommend!

Stayed for one night last summer, stayed for 3 nights this summer. Fantastic campground. You have water (including hot water!) and toilets. The optional wood was very generous. And the history of the place is incredible. We will be back.

This was our second stay at Austin Dam, our first at Site 6. Alvy is an amazing host who truly cares about the grounds and his guests! We love chatting with him. Site 6 had plenty of space for us to spread out, beautiful scenery, and a little oven that we’ll be sure to plan for next time! We’ll be back again for sure ❤️

Overall the area is very nice and convenient for fishing etc. Fee online is very misleading at $32.00 per night plus a fee when sign at actual dam states area runs on donations and suggested $10.00 per night. Highly recommend adding stone parking at each site as we had rain daily, even with truck had to improvise far from our site due to grass and mud. Bathrooms toilets are excellent bonus. Pavilion is lovely. Area is quiet and very scenic.
