Our 1200 acre property has sheep, cattle and mixed cropping, and is a regenerative property located approx 20 minutes west of Glen Innes. Morilla is now run by 3rd generation farmers. We have beautiful views from various vantage points and gorgeous creeks that run through the property in which campers get to enjoy. The creek is a safe and perfect place for children to play and swim and offers the ideal location for a picnic. You will get to spot some of our stock wandering the paddocks, along with a variety of wildlife that pass through. Our sky is big and you can watch it come to life at night with stars . Our surrounds are quiet, private and peaceful. Our camping sites allow for both small and large groups . Each campsite has a designated fire pit. Fallen timber may be collected for fires (no chainsaws please), or alternatively firewood may be purchased on arrival. Most sites have 2WD access, however high clearance all-wheel drive recommended for some sites. While away your days picnicking by the creek and watching the sunset, or explore the surrounding National Parks and other attractions that the Glen Innes area has to offer. Morilla looks forward to welcoming you and sharing our little slice of nature.

Glendawn

5 sites · RVs, Tents40 acres · Lambs Valley, NSW
"Glendawn" is a small cattle grazing property with many beaut spots for camping. There are 2 sites with access to power and a few others without. It's a great place to get away but not too far from town. Fire pits and some firewood provided. We have a powered site near the Woolshed. The Woolshed has had some modifications. It has a camp kitchen, hot and cold running water, toilet & shower. There is a fridge, microwave, gas BBQ, outdoor fire pit, chairs, power and lighting. Large central area indoors. Its a delightful spot in the paddock to enjoy being "in the country".The woolshed itself is 2WD accessible. In the winter months its really quite cold overnight. There's a great outdoor firepit and I provide firewood for $10. There's a patio heater too and its 8kg gas cylinder costs $30. I will provide the first one. This venue has been popular for families 'plugging in' their vans and for others to roll their swags out either inside the shed or under the stars. Privacy and peace and quiet in abundance here. We also have unpowered camping in the paddock. There are a few places with shade near a dam, a good outlook, a clearing for camping, 4WD accessible.Children under 12 stay for free on unpowered sites!

Redbank Farm

4 sites · RVs, Tents640 acres · Reddestone, NSW
We have a stunning 640 acre cattle farm nestled in the hills of the Northern Tablelands, overlooking the Wellingrove Valley. Redbank has many beautiful places and things to see, including two natural gullies full of native birds and wildlife, native woodlands, four beautiful dams and wild fallow deer. Redbank also has about 140ha set aside under Biodiversity Conservation Trust. This is a "no drive" area but always open to walking. There is a map available to show where everything on the property is located. Redbank features diverse terrain, from secluded forests and woodlands to open undulating paddocks with excellent views and sunsets. We provide guests with firewood. We have multiple campsites available, however we realise that you may want to be independent and camp in a unique place! We understand this, however where you wish to camp will largely depend on your vehicle, as some of our tracks are 4x4 only. Timbarra Valley

22 sites · RVs, Tents25000 acres · Rocky River, NSW
The Timbarra or Rocky River is an area of great beauty southeast of Tenterfield with soaring mountains cradling the river flats and undulating hills below and is a renowned cattle breeding region.  The Petrie family have been in Tenterfield since 1860 and have owned properties in the valley for over 100 years.  Tim’s great-grandfather was known as Rocky Jack because of his extensive holdings.  Cattle are still walked up to the Timbarra Plateau property from the river properties ‘Man From Snowy River’ style.  The Plateau can be seen rising above the valley to the north from the confluence of Demon Creek and the Timbarra/Rocky River.  These flow along the Demon Fault which is clearly visible on a satellite map.  The 3 valley properties ‘Corner Camp’, ‘Boundary’ and ‘’Pavels’ combined with ‘Timbarra Plateau’ total over 25000 acres.  The whole valley was part of 2 earlier large selections averaging 100000 acres which gradually became broken up in the late 1800s/early 1990s. There is a proud timber history in the valley and the surrounding forested mountains with large sections of State Forest now transferred to Washpool National Park which abuts both the eastern and western boundaries of ‘Boundary’ (which takes its name from Boundary Creek). The National Park and Forestland State Forest can be accessed to the west via the Billirimba Fire Trail.  The eastern section of Washpool  stretches across to the Clarence River, the largest eastern river in NSW. Washpool is where the Cedar King went missing and was never located.   The Timbarra/Rocky River flows into the Clarence at Tabulam and then on to Grafton and out to sea at Yamba. The headwaters of the Rocky are all the way south to the Glen Innes Grafton road so the river can rise quickly if there is a downpour upstream.  Interestingly when the Chinese gold miners left the Timbarra Plateau they came down with rickshaws into the Timbarra Valley then scaled the mountains to the west, near Boundary Creek, looking for their next gold diggings towards Glen Innes. The Boundary campsites at Boundary Riverside, The Cockatoo, The China Wall, and the Caves are all suitable for caravans, RVs, Camping trailers, tents and swags as is Timbarra Plateau.  Corner Camp and Pavels are suitable for camping trailers, tents and swags.  Boundary campsites access are all unaffected if the river rises however we will not take bookings at Corner Camp or Pavels in the likelihood of the river rising as we are committed to safety and avoiding inconvenience for guests.  The Rocky is a very special place and we have campers who first came as children and are now bringing their grandchildren.  We expect our guests to treat the area respectfully, and only leave footprints and tyre tracks.  The valley provides wonderful scenery and settings for bushwalking, birdwatching, photography, painting, bicycle riding, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and canoeing, or just kicking back relaxing by the river, listening to the soothing sounds of the water, birds, and the turtles and platypus splashing, or being amazed at the mirror like images on the waters surface on a still day or the flickering light of a campfire at night and the stars above.

Binghi Station

26 sites · RVs, Tents4000 acres · NSW
Binghi Station Located approximately 4.5hours from Brisbane, Queensland, or 1.5 hour drive west of Tenterfield, New South Wales. Binghi Station, once a large sheep station, was a thriving tin and gem mine from the late 1800 to mid 1900. Set on 4,000 acres of natural granite rock country and untouched overgrowth of lush tea tree bushlands, the sheer beauty of the land will, without a doubt, leave you breathless of its raw natural beauty. Binghi Station surrendered to the ravaging bush fires of 2019, however, after this devastation came some much needed rainfall which brought hope; the creation of new life in the form of rich, vibrant green country not seen since the 1980’s. You can explore endlessly on this raw outback property. Discover secret hideouts, come and enjoy a swim under our flowing waterfall (for those brave enough to during the winter months!) and simply relax and soak in pure wildlife beneath a million stars in the night sky. We strongly recommend access by 4WD only as the entry 6klm driveway is rugged and very bumpy in most places due to heavy rain fall past 12 months. Please ask for more details if necessary should you have any concerns based on your equipment. Its an ongoing maintenance. The Secret Gorge site is suited to swags, tents and camper trailers. It is not suited for Caravans over 15' due to a tight corner. Other site locations are suited to off-road 4WD caravans and camper trailers. Binghi Station - an extraordinary place to make some truly wonderful family memories. :-)

New Valley Dreaming

6 sites · RVs, Tents2859 acres · New Valley, NSW
This cattle and sheep property in New Valley, half an hour south of Inverell, is raw and beautiful, with New Valley Creek running through it, swimming holes, and waterfalls. Newly laid trails make exploring the property easy, from valleys to hilltops. If you are looking for a natural wonderland, where you can enjoy Australian bush camping at its absolute best, this is it. The property is so spectacular, that parts of it have even been featured on TV's Farmer Wants a Wife. The terrain is rugged and hilly, but the host has created easy access to several excellent, grassy camping sites some exclusive to one group at a time, others around the large dam but still with plenty of space. They all have good road access for even 2WD, provided they have good clearance. The creek and rocks are stunning and will provide hours of fun. Fishing tours are run on the property at an extra cost, it is strictly catch and release and must discuss it beforehand with the host. We do not permit hunting as we want our guests to have and enjoy the tranquility and space. Please note, that our Farmer Wants a Wife site has a long-drop toilet and designated fire ring, however, our other sites are for completely self-contained campers only. If you are visiting during the shearing season, you are welcome to come and check it out for an insight into farm life! Pet friendly, but only small breeds, and must be kept on a lead at all times. Please discuss bringing your dog with the host before booking. Campfires are ok provided you BYO firepit, and they are kept small and manageable. There is plenty of fallen timber you are welcome to collect for firewood. Strictly no cutting down of trees. No campfires during fire bans, or when conditions are not favourable. Whilst fishing tours are possible on the property, you must discuss your interest with the host prior as there are important rules around this and is , it's strictly catch-and-release only. We do not allow hunting of any description so that our visitors can have a quiet and relaxing stay without interruptions. Just five minutes up the road is Green Valley Fun Park with a huge playground, jumping pillow, animal walkabout, museum and 18 hole mini putt. So plenty to keep kids entertained both on and off the property!

Camping near Glen Innes guide

Overview

Glen Innes sits in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, in the inland New England region and not far from the Queensland border. The town is chock-full of heritage-listed buildings, is a popular site for gem fossicking (sapphires and other gems have been found here), and is near the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Several national parks east of Glen Innes run into each other, so outdoors-loving campers won’t be short of recreational activities. There are a handful of caravan parks around the town, while the nearby national parks offer more natural options, especially the Mann River Nature Reserve and Washpool National Park.

Where to go

Mann River Nature Reserve

The closest natural park area to Glen Innes, Mann River Nature Reserve is ideal for swimming on a hot day. There’s one small riverside campground that’s suitable for tents, caravans, and camper trailers, but you’ll need to bring your own water and firewood if you want to use the provided barbecue facilities. There’s no camping fee here but you’ll need to pay a booking fee, and bookings are required.

Washpool National Park

Northeast of Glen Innes, Washpool National Park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, and it offers the opportunity to camp within a UNESCO-listed landscape. There are a couple of campsites within the park, one very small and the other of medium size. The smaller Coombadjha Campground is suitable for tents only and you’ll need to bring your own water, while the larger Bellbird campground is suitable for tents, caravans, and camper trailers. National park entry fees apply.

Armidale

New England’s main town and an elegant university town at that, Armidale is about an hour’s drive south of Glen Innes. As well as its arts scene and farm-fresh produce, Armidale offers easy access to other parts of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. There are several places to camp with tents or caravans around town, as well as more remote and basic campgrounds available in the national parks east of Armidale.

When to go

This region of Northern New South Wales sits at relatively high altitude (Glen Innes sits at 1,062 metres), so it experiences pleasantly warm summers without the heat of lowland and coastal areas. Spring and autumn are also pleasant times to visit thanks to the flora and foliage, which provides a contrast to lower-altitude parts of the state.
