When you come to camp here you are on a farm in transition. Girlfarm has been a local food go to for restaurants, farm family members, and regenerative agriculture interests. Today, the farm is looking forward to a new course in agri tourism as we begin planning walking gardens, art installations in the landscape, and interactive classes.

Cute little cabin nestled in Tahoe National forest . This little gem is on an acre of land surrounded by national forest land. Close enough to Lake Tahoe to get to but also away from the Tahoe chaos.
Host lives on property , but will most likely be out and about most of the day. There are two neighbors but both own 20 acres so you can not see them, feels very private.
The front of the property where the cabin is located there will be some highway noise being close to highway 20 , especially during a busy weekend. you can’t hear highway noise while in the cabin and towards the back of the land.
However it is nice to be so close to highway 20 because it leads to several different destinations. ( west : Nevada city. east: towards Tahoe, and both directions there are soo many lakes/ rivers )
Tiny house: •Full sized futon downstairs and king sized mattress in loft. Electric fireplace, all the game boards , cards, chess, fire pit, projector for movies if requested!!!
•Additional guests are welcome to pitch a tent on the land if needed.
•Hot plate, toaster oven, mini fridge, kitchen appliances, coffee (French press, drip, mocha pot). Black stone grill outside. Fire pit , check if fires are allowed during booking
•Separate bathroom with compost toilet or a short walk to outhouse. Outdoor shower in the making, message if available.
FUN: •Lake Spaulding is about 1/4 mile hike down from the property. There is a boat launch and plenty of room to park it on the property if you want to bring a boat. Also have two paddle boards you are welcome to use.

Welcome to Sugarpine Slopes. The Sugarpine has the longest cones in the world and many birds and mammals like the pine nuts and use the tree for habitat. This is a spring through fall place only. There is no winter access. The property is at 5800 feet. Depending on the weather the road may close from Nov 15th to May 15th.
The road on the property is a dirt road. All wheel drive or 4WD vehicles recommended although the lower section could be accessed by most vehicles. Shorter trailers allowed at Site A. Site 3 can also accommodate a small teardrop-style trailer
The property is totally undeveloped at this time. It is a wildlife corridor for deer and bear (keep all food contained), the mountain quail and the blue grouse. Keep your eyes open for the Hermit Warbler, Audubon's Warbler, and our gorgeous visitor from the tropics the Western Tanager. You are likely to hear the Pileated Woodpecker and if you are lucky you will see it and its red crest in an undulating flight through the trees. The property has a lovely west facing slope which climbs gradually at first then more steeply to the top of the property. We have drive-in camping on the lower section. There is one walk-in site at the top of the property.
There is wonderful hiking nearby with several trailheads in the area within approximately 4 miles.

There are two choices of sites to camp: At Site 1 you can park an RV or pitch a tent where you have access to a picnic table, fire pit, vault toilet, and amazing sunset views. At Site 2 you can pitch a tent and have access to a picnic table, fire pit, rocking chairs, and a hammock.
Bring your hiking boots or your off-road toys and explore 160 acres of secluded forest filled with wildflowers, butterflies, ancient Pines and Cedars, wild berries, and wild game. Spend the day relaxing, picnicking, and try your luck at gold panning on pristine Slab Creek where not a single human or road exists for miles. Bring your paddle boards and kayaks and spend an afternoon at Stumpy Meadows, a beautiful mountain reservoir a 25 minute drive from the property. Apple Hill wineries and farms are a 40 minute drive. If you bring the off-road toys you also have access to miles of trails throughout hundreds of acres of national forest. Don’t feel like cooking? Smoke on the Water restaurant at Finnon reservoir in Swansboro is a quick 20 minute drive from the property. If you need supplies, a nice restaurant, or a day of wine tasting to break up the grit, downtown Placerville and Georgetown are both a 45 minute scenic drive.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1) To get the most out of your experience, we highly recommend a 4WD or vehicle, ATVs or eBikes.
2) The creek is at the bottom of the canyon, 1.5 miles from the gate at the entrance, and the road down is very steep and lined with blackberry bushes. We highly recommend an off-road vehicle/ATV or eBikes for easy access to creek.
3) Be aware you are in the middle of the forest and wildlife such as bear, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, and tics have been spotted on the property. Poison Oak is also common.
4) The property has cell service in the upper quadrant, however once you drop below the tree line toward the creek there is no service.
5) We highly recommend bringing a chainsaw or hatchet. There is an abundance of dead wood on the property that can be gathered for camp fires. Trees also occasionally fall on the trail which can impede access to the creek.

Set back from the lake and blended into the snow and trees, the hut can be difficult to spot in winter. Once you arrive, you’ll have a simple, communal base for exploring the surrounding terrain—whether you’re heading out for winter touring and snow travel or summer hiking in the high country.
This is serious mountain terrain. Please use extra caution: surrounding slopes are steep, avalanche hazard can be frequent, and conditions can become dangerous quickly when weather turns.

We had a wonderful stay at Pearl. Kelley’s detailed directions made it super easy to find the place and settle in. Pearl was incredibly cozy, and everything—from the decor to the small details—felt thoughtfully arranged and well cared for.
The location was perfect as well. It was conveniently situated between Nevada City and Lake Tahoe, which made it easy for us to explore both during our trip.
We also brought our dog, and it was such a great experience. The off-leash space was a huge plus, and our dog had a great time too, which made the stay even more relaxing for us.
My wife and I both enjoyed our time here so much that we were already saying we’d love to come back. Highly recommend staying here. Thank you Kelley!

I had a great experience!! Kelley was super helpful. She gave me very clear directions, a thermacell to keep the mosquitos away (worked amazingly), and extra blankets when I didn’t bring enough! Bathroom was super clean, and there was a space to store my food. As a solo camper, I felt very safe and comfortable.

Weekend Trip to Bright Bear Camp in Tahoe NF

Downtown Nevada City! We loved the cabin- it was modern, SPOTLESSLY clean, and had everything you could need without extra clutter. We were looking to get out of the city, get into nature and do so with minimal packing of gear on our part. This cabin provided the perfect middle-ground experience for us. The bed was super comfortable, we were able to cook a great meal with the kitchen set up, and we enjoyed the luscious green views from inside the cabin. We also loved that Kelley provided coffee grounds and a pour over set up for guests- this felt generous with coffee prices these days. Kelley was friendly, responsive and helpful- she offered to refill the water when we were out for the day which was appreciated. There was an outdoor shower on site, but it’s closer to the main campers set up and we didn’t end up using it for that reason. Try out Kelleys spot and be sure to get some sun and swimming in at the Yuba River nearby!

The spot: lots of room to drive in and set up camp, I like the fire pit included with the seating around it. We only stayed for one night but if it had been longer it would have been nice so we didn't need to bring chairs. We we're disappointed that the pie shop wasn't open in the morning because we were really looking forward to that. Otherwise a clean nice camp. For the owner, I would recommend putting reflective signage to indicate the campsite. We drove in late at night and had to use the map and the dirt roads to figure out where our spot was. It wasn't until the next morning we saw the site was marked with a wood sign up on one of the trees.

Great cozy cabin. Very quiet and peaceful. Had everything needed. Jeff was great with communication and was very friendly and welcoming. My son was the one who stayed. I can't wait for my husband and I to go check it out ourselves. My son said he will definitely go back.

Wow, what an incredible weekend! The land had plenty of space for our group of 14, and we were even able to set up an outdoor sauna. Jason was super welcoming and gave us the freedom and support to make my partner’s birthday really special. He also provided a lake parking pass for our group (parking would have been $16 otherwise), which was a huge help. The walk to the lake was beautiful, and we had an absolute blast. Highly recommend this space for a big group!

This campsite was absolutely lovely. Directions were clear, we found the spot with no issues. It was a fun adventure getting in and the views were gorgeous. It felt private and safe. Beautiful starry skies at night and an incredible view of a storm in the next town over kept us entertained until bedtime. Would recommend 10/10

The campsite is stunning! It’s beautifully setup with colorful Adirondack chairs, a hammock and a couch, and the view is gorgeous. I was there for just one night sleep, but I wish I had more time there. I wouldn’t mind spending a week and chill, hang out and work remotely from there. Highly recommend this Hipcamp.

We truly love coming to Harris farm! We stay in site 5 with our tent trailer and it’s our favorite. Nestled amongst the towering trees and a quick jaunt across the street to get some donuts. you feel a world away but it’s a quick drive to anything you may need. Bring your bug spray and enjoy the serenity!

The side across from the pie show is definitely the best. Beautiful trees and space between the sites. Site two was bit enough for three tent spots. No table, so glad we brought our own. I would also bring in a wag bag or pop up bathroom so you don’t have to walk across the street. The bathroom on that side was not in great shape. Great location to apple hill and sly park.

We loved tent camping on Wendy's property! The views were absolutely stunning! My husband is an artist and paints landscapes and he got some fantastic photos for references. There was an on-site fire ring and wood provided to us. We were able to have our service animals with us. She took my husband up to get water and brought us back 5 fresh eggs! Very sweet! We're on a 4 week cross country camping trip. We left Ohio 10 days ago. This has been our favorite place so far!

Looking for some quality backcountry to explore? Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park's Spooner Lake might be exactly what you have in mind. Bring your bike or grab a rental to use on the miles of trails. Give a go at backcountry camping in tents or cabins. Fish along the shore and play in lake! With this expansive wild backcountry to explore, drop the car off (they’re not permitted) and the fun begins!
When to go
The best time to visit Spooner Lake is during the summer and fall months when the weather is warm and the trails are clear. Winter offers a snowy wonderland, perfect for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Spring can be unpredictable with lingering snow or muddy conditions, so it's less ideal for visitors.
Know before you go
- Check weather conditions and park alerts before your visit to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Day use entrance fees are $10.00 per vehicle, with higher rates for non-NV vehicles.
- Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet.
- Remember to pack out all trash, as trash collection is not available in the backcountry.
- For cabin rentals and group use reservations, contact the park in advance to secure your spot.
