When to Go
Wildwood Canyon State Park is open for day-use only, from sunrise to sunset, and trails are typically accessible year-round. Winters can be cool and wet, but the highland rainfall means that colorful wildflowers bloom throughout the valleys come spring, and this is the most scenic time to explore. Summer temperatures can reach 100°F, so come prepared and plan outdoor activities for the morning.

Wildwood Canyon State Park
Escape the crowds and the beaten track at this little-known California state park.
Hidden away in the eastern foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, Wildwood Canyon State Park might be one of California’s least-known state parks. Sweeping grasslands, lush woodlands, and secluded mountain valleys provide ample terrain for hiking, and many trails can also be explored by bike or on horseback. Trek up to the hilltop radio station for a view that stretches all the way to downtown LA, keep a lookout for red-tailed hawks and mountain lions, and pack a picnic to enjoy amid the spring wildflowers. Leashed dogs are welcome, too, so the whole family can come along for the ride.
