The best camping near Danby Lake guide

Overview

About

Salt crystals and sunshine are all that is left of what was once Danby Lake, now known as Danby Dry Lake. Under the scorching sun of the Mojave Desert, Danby Dry Lake is just a short drive from Blythe, CA in San Bernardino County. Don't miss the chance to explore the vast desert ecosystem and unique geological formations formed as salt has precipitated the clay of the long-lost lakebed.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Danby Lake is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer brings warmth perfect for water activities, but also crowds. Winters can be harsh, with some facilities likely to be closed, so it's less recommended for visits.

Know before you go

  • Check the weather forecast and road conditions before your trip to ensure a safe journey.
  • Remember to pack plenty of water and sun protection, as the area can get quite warm.
  • Be mindful of the local wildlife and maintain a safe distance at all times.
  • Some areas may have limited cell service, so plan accordingly and inform someone of your itinerary.
  • Respect the preserve's rules and regulations to help protect the environment and its inhabitants.
