Adventure Basecamp at River's Edge

River's Edge is a four season adventure company in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, outfitting adventurers with equipment and guidance. The property is located on the Manitowish River, Heart of Vilas County bike trail, and Iron County snowmobile trails. By car we're about eight minutes from WinMan Trails, ten minutes from MECCA Trails and Mercer, three minutes from Manitowish Waters. As we're right on the bike path, riding to lunch or dinner is easy, with lots of yummy options close by. We have two campsites on our property, primarily for adventurers looking for a central basecamp location from which to go do all the fun things we have available in the Northwoods. Campsites are located on the west end of the property, in proximity to all the activities, and include full hookups, a picnic table and fire ring. Site One is closest to the river and bike path. It's more secluded and separate from the main lodge area. Of the two sites, this is the best if you plan to hang around camp and chill. It does have trees lining the parking space, so if you have a trailer above 11'-13' be careful backing in. Site Two is right off of the main parking area next to the lodge building. While we're working on natural barrier growth, it is kind of in the middle of activity during our busy seasons. It is, however, the easiest to back into with a large trailer. If you're looking for a convenient place to bring your RV or trailer and don't mind being less secluded, this is for you. If you're looking for a national forest experience, this is not for you. The main lodge is open for use until 10pm-ish. There are couches, tables and board games available for guests. A bathroom is available for campers in the lodge, however there is no shower. We highly recommend The Manitowish Waters Athletic Club for shower facilities, hot tub, and pool. Day passes are reasonably priced and the facility is extremely well appointed. It's about three minutes by car or ten by bike. Campers get a discount on rental equipment. Wifi is available in the lodge. Our sites are open year-round, although water service will be turned off when temps are below freezing.

On the upper Bad River, I have a special location that I'd like to share for others to enjoy. I was fortunate to acquire this land 20 years ago and now that I have retired from the United States Air Force, I can dedicate time to create peaceful campsites along the river. This land was originally railroad property as the railroad companies bought much land in the late 1800's to have options to place their railroads. There is still a railroad track nearby but it has been unused since 2015 and it makes a nice hiking path along the river for many miles to the north into the national forest. There are 3 waterfalls nearby and I will have many signs leading to the waterfalls. There are 4 total campsites on the property, 1 site you can drive to (Eagle Pines), and 3 tent sites that require 1/8 mile hike to 2 sites, and a 1/4 mile hike to the other hike-in site. There is no leash required for good pups. If your pup is aggressive with other dogs or people please leash them when on the hiking trails. If your pups would stay in your campsite no leash is required. Other campers may be hiking past your campsite on the trails that is still over 100 feet away from others campsites. You may run into others on the trails where others dogs may not be leashed. If your dog is aggressive to other dogs even if yours is on leash if you can’t control them please muzzle them. This property is for sale if you may be interested. Please ask and I’ll send you the details.

Private camping areas close to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Great Divide District. We have cleared some of our private forest area this year (2026) and have put in camping slots. The grounds are pretty rough yet because things have not grown back yet, but the parking spots are solid and we also have pens for horses if you are traveling with horses and need a layover place. We are a primative campground as of yet. There are NO hookups, no electric, no water, no toilet. You will need to be fully self-contained for you time here. There is minimal cell service (we use ATT, so other providers may be better) in the campground but it isn't completely nonexistent. Boosters should work wonders here for cell service. The gravel road to our place is in good shape most places, however it is a gravel road, and in places, a forest road, and has some bumpy patches. The roads out here are also all ATV and snowmobile trails. We do not allow either ATV, UTV or snowmobiles on our private trails. You will need to go to the forest for those trails. We are not far from the Dead Horse Run Trail. However some of our private trails are open to campers hiking on them. Two of our camper slots are 60' long and one is 45' long. These three spots are back in only. We also have one that is a pull off the side space that is only 35' long to settle on. Tenters can use any of the spaces also. Due to the driveway, a curve needed to get into our campground, we do not accept Class A or the "big rigs" to come to our campground. Our roads and parking spots are a sand rock mix and are not hardened as much as they will be next spring after a snow season. But for smaller rigs we believe it will work just fine. Our camper is in some of the pictures, (not in a slot though) and it wasn't bad getting it in there. Remember, when deciding if our slots will fit your setup, you need the TOTAL length of your rig, both the camper and the truck to fit in the slot. You cannot be parking on the circle driveway. Thank you.

Escape to the wilderness! This private three-acre wooded site is perfect for anyone seeking a secluded camping experience. With 300 feet of frontage on the East Fork of the Chippewa River, easy access to countless lakes and rivers, and thousands of acres of the Chequamegon National Forest at your doorstep, this property won’t disappoint any outdoor enthusiast. Note: When you rent our property you get the whole thing. We are not a campground. This is a private 3-acre parcel on the Chippewa River. You will not be sharing the site or facilities with anyone else. There’s plenty of space to set up your camper or tent on the gravel pad, or you can meander down the cleared path to the river’s edge, where you’ll find your own private park complete with a fire ring, picnic table, two tent platforms (10'x12' each) and breathtaking views of the flowing river. Note: the river camping area is approximately 150 yards down a walking path. The flat and level gravel RV/parking pad offers both 30- and 50-amp service and accommodates campers up to approximately 20 feet in length, with pull-in access (not a pull-through site). Water is available from our new well on the property. The gravel pad is about 60 feet in diameter. A full-size truck (F150) with a 20' trailer should be able to pull in and fully turn around into position on the pad. There are multiple fishing and recreation lakes within a 30 minute drive, hundreds of miles of nearby ATV/UTV trails to explore, and many mountain bike trailheads are only about 30 miles from this location as well.

Welcome to Happy Creek Hollow, your cozy private hideaway in the Northwoods! We’re excited to share our 30-acre slice of paradise—perfect for creating unforgettable memories with family and friends. A small bunk cabin now sits on the property, but the site remains fully open for tent camping or travel trailers. Tucked away yet easy to access, this one-of-a-kind retreat offers total seclusion with no neighbors in sight. You’ll have the entire 30 acres to yourself, surrounded by wild, untouched woods. There’s plenty of room to spread out with tents or park your camper/travel trailer. Spend your days relaxing around the campfire, exploring the beautiful Penokee Mountain area, and soaking in the peace of the Northwoods. Adventure on the property: A private trail leads about a half-mile (roughly 30-minute round-trip hike) to Happy Creek Flowage, a peaceful 10-acre lake. The trail is hilly and rugged—true Northwoods terrain—but well worth it. A paddle boat is waiting for calm floats on the water. ATVs and side-by-sides can also use the trail for quicker access. We’re working on installing a dock, but until then, plan to wear high boots or get your feet wet reaching the boat. The lake has no public access, so it’s all yours! Local DNR folks say there may be trout in the lake—we’re looking forward to confirming that this summer. Nearby attractions: Little Town Coffee Truck - 4 mi: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC COFFEE, located at the Mellen Police Department Parking Lot. Copper Falls State Park - 6.5 mi: stunning waterfalls. Drop Tine Restaurant in Cayuga - 3.5 mi: serves up an excellent fish fry and burgers. Meder Lake - 1.2 mi Long Lake - 2.6 mi Lake Galilee - 4.3 mi English Lake - 10 mi Many other lakes within a 20 minute drive. Ironwood, Michigan - 40 min drive. Please note: Cell service is spotty (especially for AT&T), so plan accordingly. The bunk cabin will be unoccupied during your stay, giving you full privacy on the property. If you’d like to rent the bunk cabin in addition to the campsite, just reach out—I’d be happy to arrange it. Please note that the cabin has no electricity or running water and features an unfinished interior.
