This farm is ancestral land of the Sauk and Fox peoples and has been our home since 2001. It offers diverse natural beauty including fresh springs and the Tetes des Morts Creek, quiet woods on sloping bluffs, various songbirds and other wildlife. We tend a few sheep and a flock of 20 laying hens, a small orchard and large vegetable gardens. Our black Labrador retriever wanders around here freely. The property is a second farm that has been in my family's history since the 1960's. We are a working crop, horses and beef cattle farm. We raise crops on this property. We have a main farm down the road that if you would like to visit, we can try setting that up so you can see the animals if you would like. Please note that the cabin has a porta potty outside. The cabin does not have electricity, but an extension cord can be brought and plugged into the outdoor electric outlet. The cord can be run into the cabin to use the fan, lamp and electric skillet or infrared heater in the colder months. There is a water hydrant outside for bathing or boiling. The water is non potable. We have direct access to the property for ATV/UTV's for the public road use on the back roads. You can travel from town to town and sight see. The property is between two towns and is close to places to see and things to do, driftless area history, wineries, caves, hiking, canoeing, fishing, sightseeing, river, streams and more.

I can’t say enough good about this place, I had a phenomenal experience, from the hospitality to the general upkeep of the cabin. I was lucky enough to catch two amazing moonrises that lit up the entire valley. Visits from various birds including hummingbirds to the feeder near the deck. Cool, clear and calming evenings. Mary and Rick were extremely kind and responsive to questions along the way. Highly recommended.

3 nights at New Hope Farm

For me it was a time to see all types of wildlife. I saw small birds as the harry woodpeckers and large as the great blue heron. A mink even came to visit from the stream. Two lovely dogs also came for a short visit as well. I place catch with one of them. The cabin is immaculate and ready to meet your needs. The hosts communicate with you and willing to help in anyway possible. There is a small library and my favorite were the Flannery O’Conner stories. I sat in the hammock outside as I read. At night I sat by a fire and watched the half moon rise. The cabin is private and looks out on a meadow on the front and the back screened in porch has a view of the stream gently flowing. You can walk the land and find a path leading into the woods then to a huge meadow. It is a wonderful get away from it all place just to Be.

We loved Jims Cozy Cabin. Jim was super laid back. This was a perfect place for me, my husband and our two pups. We stayed only two nights but could have stayed longer. Our pups loved exploring the farm and I loved floating in the pond with our neighbor. Whom stayed in the beautiful canvas tent on the other side of the pond. It was very secluded with all the amenities you'll need. He offered to help with our fire and he blew up floats for us. He even offered us fresh veggies from his garden. The cabin was very clean and cute. A/C worked great and was much needed. Cabin was only an hour away from Galena IL and 30 min from Dubuque IW both towns have great shopping, bars and restaurants. But if you're just looking to get away from the city and see the stars this place is where you need to be. We loved sitting on the dock at night looking at the stars. You can tell Jim spent a lot of hard work on his property to make it beautiful with all the flowers and hanging lights everywhere even around the lake. When we left we couldn't thank Jim enough. We will be back.

5 nights at Windy Ridge Retreat

this cabin was great! it's tucked into a hillside and very private, Sherri messaged with us right away and we met with her husband Jason shortly after we arrived. they are very nice and good hosts. there was plenty of firewood provided for the large fire ring, and the property was very well maintained and ready for us to enjoy. the cabin was very comfy and warm at night while staying cool during the day. two windows provided a nice cross breeze and while it did get down to 30° one morning during our stay we did not need to use the woodstove or electric heater at all. we did bring a 50' powercord to be able to use my partner's cpap and that worked very well. its glamping, but not so much it doesnt feel like camping still, if that makes sense? the sky is large with plenty of stars to see, the birdsong was wonderful with alot of different birds including one very physic woodpecker that entertained us with his antics. the cabin is close enuff to town to run in quick if you need anything or would like to have a bite to eat at the diner cafe there, but the setting is all countryside. there are several public lands nearby to explore hiking or boating and we also enjoyed taking drives along the atv utv routes some blactop some gravel roads that led thru some incredibly scenic forested hollows, valleys, and ridgetops in the area. if you want to cabin camp in privacy windy ridge is a good choice!

If you’re looking for a secluded quiet spot this is it. The directions to the location are clear and everything you need is there. Mary is quick to respond with anything you need and Cleo’s morning visits were great. This was just what we needed and will be back next year!
